Priyanka shah Decathletes are very social and friendly with one another. It’s more a group of friends, a community, or a multi-event family than it is a bunch of competitors ruthlessly going at each other’s necks with no regard for one another. They encourage each other and push each other to their best, as I’ve heard from decathletes. It makes sense though, they spend so much time together during these international competitions and go through so much in days of competitions, why not have fun and be social while you’re at it? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Which means you could reach 5500/6000 on your own, which is like triple the points some random person would make, so that's good. I calculated if I'm on my PB in every event (6400 in real, virtually 7300 with only PBs), I could push him at least until javelin \o (Not much more..)

@aarontewelde3577 7 жыл бұрын
icedwhite mocha No. They are mostly short events so there is no reason why they should be too tired to compete in a 1500m. Its not like running a 10000m. Besides their events are spread out over a number of days.

His shot put (9/18), discus (11/18) - strength events - and high jump (17/18) were not among the competition best. Otherwise, we could have witnessed a much better WR from AE. He is a monster in track events (100 m, 110 hurdles, 400 m, 1500 m) and those where speed matters (long jump, pole vault). Kevin Mayer who broke his record is more all rounder in comparison. KM is magnificent in pole vault and javelin.

Retired at the start of the height of his abilities. What a shame. He could have been a 9200+ guy. As great as he is -- and he is a champion -- this is the difference between this generation of athletes and prior generations. The older generations would have fought through the beginning of physical decline. That's an older-generation attitude. Today, Millennials and younger? They don't stick to things in the same way. They move on to new things more quickly, don't know the difference between "time off" and "quit". Not saying that's good or bad, but it certainly isn't the same. The result is that *he* doesn't feel he has more potential. His mind is out of it, so it's true. But look at his stats -- so much room to grow in the throws. His shot put alone was an absolute mess up to the very end. A bit of room to improve in the PV and HJ. One thing: if you and your spouse have similar interests and vocations, depending on your relationship, you take on each other's disposition. Think about that. If you're reading this, Ashton, maybe just long jump? You might actually be in the top-5 in the US if you focused on it. Or th 400H hurdles? You might be in the top-5.

I agree with you, it would be good to see Bolt try and run at Tokyo 2020 because we've seen Gatlin running at age 35 and Kim Collins at 41, but that's his decision. It always feels better to finish on a high note, but when you are at the height of your powers I think he should continue. Ashton is now retired at only 29, and you still see Mo Farah winning every 5000m/10000m race at 34.

It's a confusing algorithm but most people sorta just estimate. There are certain marks that grant you 1000 points in every event. For instance in the 100m I believe somewhere in the 10.3-10.4 range you get 1000 points. In long jump the mark is somewhere around 7.85m for 1000 points

Fun Fact: 0.01s in 100m 999.99m in Long Jump 999.99m in shot put 999.99m in high jump 0.01s in 400m 0.01s in 110m hurdles 999.99m in discus 999.99m in Pole Vault 999.99m in javelin 0.01s in 1500m = 13,778,826 points! In fact, you score EVEN LESS points for running 1500m in 0.01s than you do for sprinting 100m in that time! These performances are so unrealistic that the models used become inaccurate and out of proportion at these times and distances.

+Shane Smith You're insane. Not only does one have to have exceptional abilities in the following (but not limited to) categories such as speed, power, strength, stamina, but one has to work on the technique of each and every one of those disciplines. Ashton Eaton is THEE GREATEST athlete in history being the WR holder and best in the decathlon. Name an athlete who can run faster, but also jump higher or throw farther, and run a longer distance as fast?
@jbspencer77
