It’s so important to remember that someone can be a wonderful friend and person to you but a terrible person to someone else. I imagine as someone who loved him it’s unimaginable to picture the trauma and hurt he caused someone else. You can love someone and hate what they did. Support them through their struggle but not support their actions. It’s a complicated situation to be in.

It's heart breaking when a good friend you've known for many years turns out to have done these kinds of things. This happened to me, I lost a good friend when I found out he was abusing his girlfriend. She came to stay with me after he hit her. I tried to get her to leave him but he convinced her to stay. After that she went to the hospital when he hit her face so hard that blood was coming out her ear. About 6 months after that they invited me to their wedding. I was vocally clear that I did not support the marriage and was not interested in ever speaking to him again. He texted me many times trying to explain that it wasn't all just him, she was as bad as he was, etc. And I just ignored him totally. And if anyone asks me about him, I tell them the truth. Very sad.

First off, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I always hope people aren't guilty of the charges they face. And I do hope that Danny is innocent. However, I hope the truth comes out, whatever the truth may be. And if he is guilty, and it can't be proven, I hope this is a wakeup call that gives him a second chance to be a better human being going forward. It is sad when the guilty can walk away because the evidence isn't there anymore . . . and that is a good motive to file charges asap to be able to gather and save all the evidence needed to convict someone.

It's a good motive, but it's just not that simple. Especially when dealing with a celebrity backed by an entire "religious" organization famous for stalking and harassment. There are a million ways to suppress an accuser and they have the power to do it. Not to mention the shame, self hatred, and disgust one feels and has to overcome, after having been violated. It can take years of therapy. I do agree with you, but it's just not that black and white. I wish it were.

With all due respect, some thing you really need to look up is that this isn’t a normal accusation. I saw the interview with one of the accusers. If memory serves, At the time of the assault they were both in Scientology which is a cult. The accuser has since left. The reason why she didn’t file charges until now was because when the assault initially happened she went to the church of Scientology which is what all members are instructed to do. They are indoctrinated not to involve outside authorities. They immediately covered it up and threatened her. That’s why this is only coming out now. Because Scientology was actively involved in the cover-up. Now if you want to see this for yourself you can stream Leah Remini Scientology in the aftermath I can’t remember which season but they had an entire Episode devoted to the case.

It’s hard because bad people don’t show that side of themselves to everyone. If you’re a man and your relationship with him is one of friendship, of course you’re not gonna see his sexually abusive side, cause to him you’re not a prey, and of course they’re not gonna mistreat a girl right in front of you neither. You gotta tell yourself that most people have a side that they show only to a few people, and it’s not because you haven’t personally seen that side of them that it doesn’t exist. From a showrunners' standpoint, it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. If they kept Masterson employed, they could be seen as sweeping the problem under the rug and keeping a predator on their show (similar to what the BBC did with Jimmy Savile). And since they chose to fire Masterson and write his character out, some people are seeing this as letting 3 accusers "ruin his life without proof." If I were ever in that position, I'd rather deal with fans getting mad at me for firing someone than deal with a PR crisis for sweeping the problem under the rug. Innocent until proven guilty only applies to the court of law. It doesn't apply to employment. They could possibly hire him back if he's found innocent, but only time will tell. If Masterson is found innocent, then he should file a countersuit against his accusers, but if he's found guilty, then he can suffer the consequences of his actions. Given that he allegedly made any potential girlfriends sign a contract with him to only go through the Church of Scientology with any accusations (or something like that), before they even started dating him isn't exactly a good look for Masterson, in this case. The problem is that too many people, majority women, often wait to come forward with allegations like this (and sometimes, not at all) for reasons such as them being afraid to come forward, feeling ashamed of themselves for what happened to them, etc. At the end of the day, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

What also happens a lot of the time is that when someone is accused of something that heinous, then years later they are found innocent, the damage has already been done. There’s already such a deep stain put on their reputation and image by that point, that they are never really looked at that same way again. Also, I’m not saying Danny is guilty OR innocent quite yet, but either way, that’s an unfortunate part of being accused of such crimes, regardless of innocence.

Is this the first heavy sentence ever given to an actor / Scientology member who raped without killing? If it is, historians should take note. I am relieved that justice finally has been done after a lot of people thought Scientology and a constantly repeated half-hour sitcom guaranteed a slap on the wrist. Possibly the appeal of the sitcom that includes Mr. Masterson has lost its sense of humor and its entire appeal. If it has, that is good. The real 1970s were bad enough. A stupid half-hour sitcom views the Me Decade through rose-colored glasses, and that makes memories of the decade even more painful for those who are forced to watch reruns in doctors’ office waiting rooms and other tension-filled public places. Mr. Masterson’s two victims have helped expose the sitcom for what it is : tasteless humor based on false generalizations. According to the writers, in the 1970s every young white person did this and did that. Oh, and does anyone ever point out that throughout the real 1970s, the number of reported rapes skyrocketed? Which character on the tasteless sitcom, if any, mentions even one time that a female must learn how to defend herself against a potential rapist?

Is truth and belief really just based on the RNG of who gets into the Jury? Is that actual truth? Will we just flip flop on what "really" happened depending on biased truths? The system is a joke, its just the best we have until we have mind reading, but it doesn't mean much without actual evidence, which there isn't any in this case, so its just bias.

You know, whenever a friend (and it’s happened a few times) gets accused of rape or sexual assault, I purposely remain silent. Reason being… innocent and proven guilty, for sure. And allowing that friend a benefit of a doubt until there is no doubt that accusations are bogus. BUT, it does no good to take a side because the moment you do it becomes detrimental to all victims who feel like it’s impossible to come forward. Even if my friend is innocent…. Some of the attitudes really seem to make it hard for legit victims to come forward. Sometimes to the best thing to do is shut up until the picture is clear.

yeah. when a friend is accused of something like assault, rape, pedophilia, etc etc....its very hard to be scrutinized with a microscope cuz everyone expects ya to take a side. you cant take your friend's side cuz then youre downplaying any possible trauma that may have occured for the victims, but just straight up abandoning a friend when they need that friendship the most just feels wrong. but very often, they lose friends as easily as they gained them, and nobody wants to stand up for them because then theyre equally as bad/guilty in peoples eyes nowadays. *how could you be his friend when he did this??* innocent till proven guilty really just...doesnt exist in society nowadays much anymore. and i agree that its best to be impartial and just believe that the truth...will hopefully come out. and whatever the outcome, the person/people at fault, face proper justice.

No he really didnt.. he tried to clear himself from association and skirted any damning speculation. I imagine they are programmed that way in scientology since the victims couldnt even use or say the word rape when filing complaints with police. If you were raised in it, a creep would see this as a soft spot in the system and look to exploit it.. Dont ya think? So, I cant help but wonder how long it went on.. and how many countless victims he would have ran through until he finally found someone that stood up. Knowing it was more likely to be them that would be punished and sent away to scientology reform school..aka scientology jail, than any celebrity status members. A sexual predator would want silent victims that couldnt fight back or file complaints so if found guilty, he will be yet another example of the absolute worst kind of predator looking to take advantage of an entire gender with that belief system. Knowing they wont even be able to file a complaint and if they do it would most likely end there. Since everyone knows Scientology covets and recruits celebrities over its regular members. So the higher ups will always choose to protect the celebs first, because they are of a higher importance to the cult than their regular members. They are used for Public Relations and to aid in recruitment. And therefore held to a much lower standard of conduct respectively and sheilded from any ground level accusations. Just like the real world only worse.

It is equally as insane as saying that if you accuse anyone you also have to get barred from being able to work until you get the guilty verdict. Innocent until proven guilty is not just something we keep around because "it has always been that way." It is around because that is the only thing that makes sense. because public opinion on the network or studios would be thrown in the bin if they kept said actor/actress employed/working during these kind of scandals. firing the employee and leaving a cut-paste PR response about the ordeal is just the safest thing for them to do to save face. for example: johnny depp and disney. pirates of the carribean is loved by younger audiences primarily cuz of jack sparrow ofc. allegations arise, suddenly parents everywhere, before even knowing if he's guilty or innocent, want him gone because they dont want their children idolizing that monster. ^ this is how hollywood/large entertainment corporations work. guilty until proven innocent. and more often than not, after a scandal/allegation like this, even if you ARE proven completely innocent, there is no apology from them to the accused. theyre considered a flight risk most times, and their career, and livelihood? blacklisted. over. maybe theyll get a TV deal in more minor roles, but any major acting parts are usually not gonna happen. and its horrible. i fully embrace that victims need a voice. but that includes the accused who have had their lives torn apart and ruined by accusations. and in this instance, no matter what happens, i hope that justice is served. no matter the outcome.

When you're close to someone it's hard to believe a stranger over someone you really like & care for, especially if you have a great relationship through out the years.

Danny's bad actions are directly related to his involvement in Scientology.

He is part of Scientology and they are known for some extremely disturbing things. I think he is guilty. As much as I love his characters, I don't want to meet him.

@@Andy-bh8hw There’s years worth of evidence had you actually looked into the case. Had Masterson done it once or twice, he would have gotten away with it. The final victim prompted an investigation of the original police proceedings.

@ommeloise Is there a place online where the case has been dissected with organized info? I haven't followed the case closely but would like to learn to form a fair assessment.

@@name02 Idk man, evidence from 20 years ago sounds like it could of been tampered with
@name02
@name02 2 жыл бұрын
@@Aaron-xr7oc It was tampered with by the police. That’s why Scientology’s connection to the police are brought into question. So, it’s not the victims who are messing with the evidence, which is what you’re suggesting.
