John Smit said that at Kamp Staaldraad, all the players were in freezing water, when a fire broke out while the guys overseeing the camp were Braaing, the players had to help put out the fire, but Ashwin abandoned them to go steal some of the meat off the braai for himself. Shows you the kind of mentality this guy has.

Bottom line: Nick and Naas said nothing about racism/quotas before Ashwin said all this. Nothing. Just because this guy still has a chip on his shoulder about being a "quota player" himself, he brought up something totally irrelevant to what was being disgussed in studio. Ashwin opened up a can of worms for no reason. Get over yourself! We want Breyton back in studio, was a much better wing in his day and a great guy!

From the SuperSport coverage over the years, it’s been obvious that there have been differences and disagreements between Ashwin and in particular Nick. Nick tends to bring up points that undermine Ashwin’s points. But why does Ashwin presume race as the issue? To treat people fairly is to point out when they talking crap, to tiptoe around someone or virtual signal is racism. This is purely an Alpha dominating the space, nothing to do with race. Thank you bureaucrats, you’ve created this, you thought it best to social engineer society. Well you’ve created animosity and distrust between races and in the end the ones you thought you were helping, land up being the ones in worse shape. You tell us affirmative action is the only way, then tell us that all players who are not white at the highest level are there on merit. How could a black or colored player ever show his worth and character, when you undermined him from the start? And where in the world does a sporting team match the racial make up of a country? African Americans are 14% of the US, but make up over 70% of basketball and football teams, and have the highest paid players by far. Should they prevent black athletes from highest honor, so teams look more representative? These marxists are retarded? It’s equality of opportunity, not outcome.

Seems like when Ashwin had an opportunity to say something about the rugby, the only thing that came to mind is to point fingers at others saying they racist, instead of doing his job (as he gets paid for talking about the rugby game, NOT POLITICS). Besides, even during the special commission that was another opportunity for Ashwin to clear the air....he refused. Is he after making a name for himself (for the wrong reason in my humble opinion)?Could it be something else(maybe jealousy or something personal between him and the others) is playing out here. He embarrassed himself, the game, the company (SuperSport) and South Africa for acting like a kid and bringing up the same old excuse....over and over. If he had issues, why not raise the issues before or after the show. It could also be a smoke screen for something else...???

Nick was talking about how New Zealand teams and clubs work together to promote NZ rugby. Aswin then went off on a tangent about how South African rugby does the same, Nick told him he's missing the point entirely, which was that SA rugby is not getting better. We are trying to get better by having NZ coaches, and trying to play like NZ. Ashwin then tried to use the lions as an example, about how people are saying that they should be used as the blueprint for SA rugby, and tried to prove what Nick was saying wrong - I'm sure he had a point, but I'm not sure why he felt undermined? I do like Nick and Naas's opinions, and the way they are critical about good players and bad players. They are really neutral, and does not only dig into black players, but also white players, they evaluate each player on his own merit. I think it was immature of Ashwin, could have been a great debate there. Not really sad to see him go. He struggled to speak and bring his point across. To call the race card is admitting defeat. Every sorry sod always pulls the race card. The way he insulted Nick and Naas was really immature. He essentially called them racists.

Gorden Bennett on a serious note. You really don't have a clue about the events that preceded this reaction from Ashwin so why mention "the race card"? Race is not a card. Its a defining factor especially in our volatile society in which the first trangressors were white and the race that gained the most perpetual luxury are whites. But without getting too deep into that, you have never experienced the socio-economic challenges for a coloured person like myself to succeed in a majority white industry. So just focus on your own struggle and don't belittle the struggle of others. I don't know what you are struggling with due to factors outside of your control but for me to judge you for merely referencing them is not only hypocritical, it's diabolical. But apologies for my earlier comment. I just felt upset at all the comments from people that act as though they know what motivated Ashwin to react the way be did here.

I don't understand why he would complain about being a quota player if our government are the ones responsible for enforcing the system in the first place? If he is upset about being labelled a quota player then maybe he should vent his frustration into abolishing the quota rule entirely, and then be placed into a national team based on talent. Furthermore, I thought it was unnecessary to use the word apartheid, where to my knowledge neither of the other analysts gave any indication of a race driven agenda. Lastly I would would just like to say that I thought the host handled the situation with professionalism and grace.

Naas and Nick are called Apartheid era players because that was the situation when they played. In the same way Ashwin played in the quota era so he is a quota player... Not one of the three chose their situation and I'm fairly sure all three would have liked it to be different but its not. Besides, Ashwin was never as good as he thinks he was... Neither was Nick... I would never have picked either of them for Springbok team... Even if I had to choose a "qouta player" I can think of three better players in Ashwins place who played at the same time as him, were much better rugby players and were also previously disadvantaged, but overlooked...

Stop commenting with hatred people...by saying things like 'Quota' and 'He pulls out the race card' 'glad to see him go'...that's not going to resolve anything and actually promotes hate and racism...As the lovely presenter lady said its unfortunate as it would've been good to hear Ashwin's point of view. I have seen the politics behind rugby even between white Afrikaans and white English people. Look at all the squad lineup of even the Sharks team...how many white English speaking people do you see there? Can we see the divide, not just Black and white, but across language and cultures..White English people here are also true South Africans,..say this to a few people (not all) and you will see the angry response and defensive hatred....I say until there is a balanced White English / White Afrikaans / Black & Coloured team, things like this will continue happening..there is an element of bully-style that has dominated in this country for many years unfortunately...got to get past this and humble ourselves and truly respect all people...Don't necessarily have to agree with the next person or live or follow the same ways as each person is different, BUT respect and acceptance of eachother,

Yes of course! Do I think he should've handled matter/issue differently, yes of course. Do I know what was said....No. If I know (knew) what was said, it probably in my "layman proffesional opinion" 😊should've not been in his "best interest(s)" to simply walk off air... Surely there is /or should've/could've/would've been "other avenues" to consult/follow/exhaust to get to the bottom of initial apparent "off air" disagreements....??? and then deal with it accordingly.....

Quotas are the problem here... can anyone really believe that in sport you can have quotas.... sport is performance based... This whole situation is self inflicted because being a quota player will always be in the back of the sportsman or womans mind, knowing they are not fit for purpose, but have to actually strive beyond their own capabilities just to fit in. Think about this.... Ashwin would have needed to exceed himself just to keep his position.... not fair on him... and not fair on the team... not fair on the country.... and not even fair on the opponent you actually playing against.... SA Rugby is no longer a threat to play against, because the team is already mentally and physically disadvantaged....

From quota player to quota presenter, never been good at either. He doesn't have the brain capacity to understand that it's bad for business for EVERYONE to throw a tantrum live on air. My guess is they probably got sick of writing the plays for him to read and handed him a blank card. But wait, he's not worried! He's reaching for his back pocket! Is it yellow, is it red? No! He pulls out South Africa's number 1 go-to defense...The race card!!!

I am shocked at the audacity of the white people in this comment section. Ashwin is a man of integrity and discipline, so if he felt the need to walk off the set, then good for him. Furthermore, how dare you all try to brush Apartheid under the rug like it was some inconvenience. That regime destroyed the coloured community, leaving them dead or in very poor circumstances. As a white person, I am ashamed to be associated with all of you.

This was going to go to the equality court but everything has gone quiet since this fake walkout of Willemse. Maybe because they don't know how to make it look like Naas and Nick's fault. Willemse is a has been, why doesn't he take the 50 mil or so that he received for that obscure, bizarre BEE deal and leave the rugby viewers of this country alone.

Mr. Willemse shows his background in this unprofessional conduct. Maybe he wants to go into politics and is using the Supersport forum as a steppingstone. As a pure quota player he still has a chip on his shoulder. I pity the players in South African who actually deserves their places in the various teams as they are playing under the stigma of people like Mr. Willemse.

to j ziman and many others that thinks like j ziman, please tell me, what man will just react in that manner without reason. what i learned about afrikaners white men they are very devious and undercover racism. for many years those two Naas and Nick always crit black players, especially behind the scenes. and that's is what AW talking about. I can imagine what were said, to piss off a guy like AW because he is a very clam man.

The truth has come out now .According to crew and staff ,AW is lazy and does not do his match analyses ,never shows up on time and leaves all the work to Naas and Nick to do ,then he uses that ,then takes credit .So onviously Nick and Naas gave their statements about the incident and so have the staff on the day ,guess who hasn't and refuses to ,AW.Why ,because he knows what he did was wrong and he tried to oust Nick and Naas cause they themselves put him on the spot cause they are fed up doing all the hard work and AW just stuffs around .This i believe cause AW is arrogant like most sports stars thinking they are the greatest and AW was brought down a peg ,then he reacted like a snowflake child and brought race into cause that is his only defence ,trying to push blame and avoid getting into trouble like a coward .He should be fired or suspended for this,he used the racial tension in this country like a very immature and spoilt brat .He deserves to be fired .

The worst part of this is that Ashwin Willemse lives a very Privileged life. Earns more than most South Africans. He basically threw a passive tantrum and blamed it on Racism. How ridiculous. This makes so much sense now .AW could not win an argument against Nick and Naas over NZ rugby teams play for the ABs and SA teams don't do the same which is obvious and factual ,all over the world people know this .AW countered by using the Lions as an example ,but 1 team cannot benefit the Bok team that's just obvious and as always Nick and Naas rugby brains destroyed AW on live tv and like a spoilt child goes on the attack using race and quotas as his defence that is why the lady presenter did not even defend him ,she was shocked at his response and it being off topic .AW just lost an argument against them and went on a tantrum .Male stuff but using this as his defence ,childish and immature .That is why you can see Nick laughing cause it's ridiculous, which it is.

It is a typical response for our fellow south africans to shift blame when they are undermined and upset. I hate that in 2018 people still use the apartheid era that ended 26 YEARS ago to try and prove a point and put up a scene. This is another enormous dissapointment.
