So if one compares to western music, Audav can be compared to Pentatonic scale, Vaadi can be compared to main Major or minor chords and sam vaadi compared to relative major or minor. Best example k saath samjhaya hai aap ne koi bhi raag play krte wqkt feel kaise layen ya fir aaroh avroh se to raag nhi bajtaa wo kya cheej hai jisse aap baar baar bajaate ho hor fir bhi wo barti chali jaati hai wo kya bandish k bol hai yaa fir koi khaas kism ki gaayki hai raag ko play krte samye hme kya swron par dhayaan dena chahiye yaa phir aalap me bhi kuchh khaas bolon ka pryog hota hai. Ashwinji, while your definition of wadi , samwadi as main and second main swara of a raag is correct, but I think I came across some where that they are like two main swaras of a raag one is in poorvang and other in uttarang of the raag and these do a samwaad with each other, that's why they are called waadi and sanmwaadi. For example in yaman the phrase ni, re, ga has a samwaadi phrase da, ni , sa. (ni in poorvang corresponds to da in uttarang and re and to ni and so on). So I think it has got to do with samwaad thats why they are called waadi and samwaadi. Correct me i I am wrong. I can give you some you tube links where sanjeev abhayankar and some more have mentioned like this.

That maybe the case. But my intention, in this video, is for total beginners just to understand the very concept. There obviously is a really deep ocean of knowledge in this subject. But the sequence of topics and my approach to that has a specific reason why I’ve chosen to explain it this way.
