What a challenge it is to collect the essence of this deeply introspective raag in a mere 10 minute bandishi. And how effectively and aesthetically Ashwiniji does it ! The beautiful usage of the komal swars and the meends and the unusually designed taans still remain her hallmarks. Unusual combination of cerebral creativity and supreme melody !

I'm in total agreement. It''s even more wonderful when we happen on the older recordings of some maestros from the time when the radio records used to be only about 3 minutes long. For example, listen to Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan's Todi -- just 3 minutes into it -- and everything around becomes the todi.

She is so outstanding. A woman of rare academic merit and such a talented classical vocalist. One wonders how people like her pull it all off. I remember being bowled over her rendition of "Adharam, Madhuram", sung to Raag Bhopali. May one tell me what they find so compelling in Raag Puryadhaneshree?

I find Puriya Dhanashree, Sohini, Des, Bihaag, Miyaan ki todi, Khamaaj, Ahir Bhairav and Baageshree very compelling. The best I can express this feeling is by saying that they magnify my existence. Renditions that leave the air filled with the swaras of the raag sung, like this one, are catalysts to solving the existential riddle.

Is it forbidden to do a full akaar in jaipur atrauli gharana? Genuinely asking. Never heard anyone of them sing "aa" its aways "a-ye" plus 80% taans are similar in nature. Layakari is monotonic , hardly any boltaan. These druts fall flat for me. Kirana n gwalior ( similar gharanas)has a dynamic drutkari n madhyalay. Ashwini ji is respected artist but i prefer her bhajans than khayal renditions.
