Ash, Regarding ur point about team selection. It’s not about the selection , it’s about the backing of the player.. Few players example like Gill gets long rope to prove n settle his position whereas player like sanju or Rutu hardly get chance even if they prove in one series they won’t be selected in another series.. This differences in player backing by BCCI is always questionable..

For Eg, in 2018 Krunal Pandya brought by MI through RTM for 8.8 cr. But, if he got retained as a 3rd retention,his price would be 7 cr at that time. Also,he was the player of match in 2017 IPL final. I think,RTM helps to identify a player's market demand in the auction and gives a chance for the player to play for his same team at a market-determined price. But, the price may vary on the player's current form,demand,auction dynamics. So,2 RTM cards could help teams and players from my perspective anna.

Yes , when number of retentions increase the last slot player gets less and increase in amount goes to other first retained players . Last time CSK retained rutu for 6 cr even if rutu was put in auction and we have spend 8 CR on him still CSK would have saved 1 Cr because for 3 player retentions 15 , 11 , 7 cr total 33 cr but for 4 retentions it's 42 cr cost and increase in 9cr but 4th retention gets only 6 cr and balance 3cr goes to first 3 retentions one crore each .

Regarding the RTM topic, i feel it's okay to have RTM bcoz n-1 teams (9 teams now) are still in the contention to get that player, only one team is not going to bid for that player (team who owned that player). If that player is good and skilful, even if half of the teams are bidding for that player, it will yield him a good amount i feel. It will be better than the retention amount considering the player (who was let out for RTM) would be retained at low value among the other retained players (if RTMs are replaced by extra retentions). To make it (littler) fair, one thought would be, Players should be given 10-20% of extra amount of the actual bid amount if they are retained using RTM. This is just a thought

RTM is the correct measure to value the player for the current year. Previous year X player might have gone for 10cr but he couldn't have delivered the performance worth for 10cr. If he goes to auction, it's possible he will go for 5-6cr. Then the current team can buy him back for lesser money. Vice versa happens if someone performs well nd the team has to pay more to buy him back. Not sure why do u say it's bad?
