"Headlights pointed at the dawn. We were sure we would never see an end to it all." "To the lights and towns below. Faster than the speed of sound, faster than we thought we'd go." Those two lines sum up being young, and then sitting on the other side of life wondering just where time, and our youth, went.

The Pumpkins were a stand-out in the 90s. At first, they kind-of got lumped into the grunge wave, but they have their own ever-evolving sound. They have a ton of great songs. Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness always come into the conversation as some of the best albums in the 90s. Check out Cherub Rock or Mayonaise

I love the song. Probably not for the reasons and other people like it. It has a melancholy to it which is right on par for Smashing Pumpkins. I was too young to do all the stuff they're doing in the video but that was the year that my mother died unexpectedly so that yearning really stands out for me. My other favorite song by Smashing Pumpkins is Tonight Tonight. They have a lot of great song so if you do jump into this well you will have a good time.

Dancing to Waylon and Willie, CDB, Barbara Mandrell, The Oakridge Boys, Crystal Gayle, Johnny Lee and Micky Gilley. But, we also Rock and Rolled too. The Eagles, Joe Walsh, Tom Petty, The Cars, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Meatloaf, Styx, Blondie, Rod Stewart, and many more...

Lead singer Billy Corgan wrote this about making the transition out of youth and into adulthood. He remembered being in high school and having adult responsibilities like a car and job, but still being very much a youth and dependent on his parents. Corgan chose 1979 for the title because it rhymed with many of the words he wanted to use in the lyrics. (thanks, Susan - Scarsdale, MT) Corgan (from VH1 Storytellers): "Sometimes, when I write a song, I see a picture in my head. For some reason, it's of the obscure memory I have." The memory that goes with this song is from when he was around 18 years old. He was driving down a road near his home on a rainy night, and was waiting at a traffic light. He says that the picture "emotionally connotes a feeling of waiting for something to happen, and not being quite there yet, but it's just around the corner."

1979 I turned. It was a fun time getting out more with my friends. Feeling “grown” and independent. Taking the train to school and hanging out downtown or at the mall with my friends. But it was a difficult year. Iranian militants stormed the US embassy and took 55 Americans hostage on my birthday. The beginning of what became known as the Atlanta Child murders started. It created a lot of worry for my mom as I wanted to hang out with my friends and would wonder off without telling anyone.
