9:02 Like to correct Anushka although she is partly right. The mainstreaming of Korean wave in India did happen during Covid-19 lockdown but there was already a niche fan base of K-content since 2000 when piracy was the only source. In 2005, government of South Korea promoted Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace) and Emperor of the Sea as part of cultural exchange. This was the first legit transmission of Korean drama on Indian television viewed by millions. From 2014, cable and satellite channels started relaying latest content from Korea. And from 2020, OTT platforms made it easier for everyone with a smartphone to watch K-content on the go. Now people from all age group and gender watch Korean content, enjoy Korean cuisine and even planning to visit South Korea.
