I'm honestly hurting so much as I post this video. The amount of fear that weights on minorities & women can be so detrimental on people's mental health and well-being. This isn't a new issue. Multiple nights I've spent crying because of the way people have treated myself and others within the Asian Community. I truly hope that those of you watching will gain some insight about what has been going on. ✩ monetization from this video will be donated to Stop AAPI Hate & Go Fund Me's for those suffering the effects of hate crimes ✩

I think there is missing a point here: it doesn’t matter if someone is half or full Asian/POC it still happens. There are no rules such as “if someone is half Asian/Afro-American/Middle Eastern/etc. then it wouldn’t happen” *it* *still* *does* . Racist people don’t care how many percentage of Caucasian you are, they will still look down at you for the percentage that you aren’t. (I just wanted to make that clear ☺️) Ashley is very brave to speak up about it! I’ve tried to hide it cause when you hide it, it doesn’t feel real, and when something isn’t “real” then it wouldn’t hurt as much. But it’s still real and still hurts. Even though many of us experiences racism, we would still rather be who we are, even if that means people will hate us.

i get your point, but i just wanna say that it doesn't matter if someone is "only" half or part asian, or full asian for that matter. just BEING asian is enough for these things to happen, and as an asian myself i feel absolutely appalled.

Y'all might not read dis but if u do thank u Ashley for making this video. Just today I found out there were 8 Asian Americans killed in Atlanta, GA. I also stumbled upon a video of an elderly who got killed for being pushed by some white guy in the bay area. All I can say is I was on the verge of tears. I myself am a Mexican American but have a lighter skin color so I am can be seen as a privileged minority and around my neighborhood of mostly Hispanics I have always seen much violence and poverty so that is all a result of racism. We must all educate ourselves and learn more about the history and root causes of our countries racism since it is nothing new. It is sad to talk about but also very important. I am a current 2nd yr college student(just like Amber lolz) and I know it is very difficult seeing all of this racism, pandemic, political climate escalate, so I thank u for voicing your opinion and experience. There is so much more I can talk about but I am working on myself to be more Anti-racist :) *And I meet u Jazzy one day @ SDSU lolz, we go to the same school, good luck!

Sorry to hear that even young people are having problems with anti Asian racism. When I first come here in the 1960's, the racism was more in your face. Over the years it became a bit better, especially the time when Bruce Lee and Kung Fu were popular. But now with the Pandemic and some politicians blaming China, the racism has gotten worse again. Hearing you and other Asians speak shows that our society hasn't improve much in terms of race. I still hear Asian people say they feel they don't belong here, that they still have to swallow insults and racist incidents in silence and that stereotypes are just as prevalent as it was fifty years ago. Very shameful for a society that claims to believe in equality and democracy.

@Ape Kaspank no one is prejudging anyone as racist. However, white people benefit from how systemic racism affects minorities & they do not struggle with systemic factors that other minorities do. Maybe if you educated yourself, you wouldn't leave hateful comments for someone saying thank you for helping her get through a time when family and friends are literally getting murdered and beaten for being Asian. I usually wouldn't even interact with comments like this, but I really hope that you'll actually read through some of the resources I linked.
@dopaemine
@dopaemine 3 жыл бұрын
@Ape Kaspank I think the main thing you should focus on is that even if you are white and may not treat people this way, other people in your community do, so if you felt even slightly attacked by what Ashley has said in this video just imagine how minorities feel when they are fearing for their lives and having hateful words thrown at them on the daily. If you feel uncomfortable, good, hold yourself& people in your community accountable instead of feeling guilty and intern leaving hateful comments which then adds to the problem.

@Ape Kaspank this channel and its subscribers are trying to convince people that asians are the victims of systemic racism lol. They're also willfully ignoring the fact that the majority of these hate crimes aren't being perpetrated by whites. It's crazy.. and the fact that Ashley's raging SJW self has influence over thousands of young minds is actually depressing af

@@abettertomorrow2945 “ Racism and other forms of ethnic hostility also serve to separate workers in the classic divide-and-rule pattern . . . The more that various racial and ethnic groups are pitted against each other, the less likely it is that they will be able to unite in a common struggle to oppse those with power. . . If racial minorities become scapegoats, they can direct attention away from the real bases for social problems” Do you realize that because of systemic racism, the mental health of minorities is largely affected, which can lead to violence? at the end of the day, white people don't suffer from systemic racism but ALL other minorities do. There is so much legislation within US history alone, that has had terrible affects on Asian communities to this day (Japanese internment, for example). Also, with minorities having less access to education & other resources, there is a huge wealth disparity between whites and all other minorities, with white families holding 90% of national wealth. What's actually depressing is that you won't stick up for others affected by blatant racism. Hopefully you can look into some of the resources that I linked.

As an Asian American growing up in a predominately white area of the capital region in NY I’ve faced so much racism that i’ve opted to go fully remote for the whole school year. I’m missing out so much my junior year because I can’t go to school, and I feel like the freedom i just gained to go out was taken away from me due to this. My mom doesn’t want me going out alone and I don’t feel safe going out alone:( Last week at walmart i was shoved and threatened with a knife,, luckily the woman went away but i fear for all of the other Asian ppl who shop there. These days i’m even worrying about all the asian/korean adoptee children in there area (such as myself) that i went to camp mujigae with who’s white parents haven’t taught them how to handle racism or who downplay the severity of what’s going on. I always felt like the area I live in was pretty good to me but lately I’ve been scared to go out. I Read Your Comment And I Agree And Didn’t Notice Something Until I reread It. I Had The Thought Of Maybe That Is Where We Can Start ... For Example, instead Of Saying “how traumatic it is seeing YOUR PEOPLE/ People Who Look Like You” ... Maybe We Can Just Say That We Are All Human ... Shouldn’t Us Seeing Another Human Being Being Discriminated Hated And Even Murdered Be A Reason To Feel And Be Traumatized? Maybe It’s Time To Generalize When It Comes To Something Like This. If Another Person Is Being Tortured Shouldn’t That Be A Reason To Say Why Are They Doing This To The People ... Our People ? Cause At The End We Are All Humans Different But Human... (Sorry If It Sounds Like Im Calling You Out ... Im Not Its Just A Thought That Came ... Is it right? Of course not but its not about blaming victims here but of acknowledging what has happened and how to move forward together and that is what she is doing. Interesting..a lot of white people are from central and west Asia and have no idea. Some of them are cro magnon nethanderal have no idea. Hmmm. It really doesn’t matter if your a citizen or not apparently a lot people don’t like Asians or how they look. Maybe they are afraid of the culture of the country changing or maybe losing their attractive appearance becuz of mixing. A lot of Asians are intelligent and they do well academically they don’t want Asians to dominate in high positions. It’s not until I watched Katy Perry’s song chained to the rhythm I saw Katy perry walking on the wheel but the Asian woman and black man fell off the wheel but the white blond Katy perry was still walking on the wheel. I feel that symbolized no matter how hard they work they make it hard for them to succeed in the system they created. The pandemic it makes it look like Communist China is taking over the country which might be true but it’s not the Asians living here we are just sitting ducks here just as shocked as the rest of the country to what is happening. The sad thing is unfortunately it has just created more racism for us. And being made fun of with a stereotypical indian accent. This actually happened in a drama class, a few days ago, some kid thought it would be funny to repeat the word chapati, over and over in said stereotypical accent. I had a pimple and people thought it was a Bindi? Which made me insecure of both my skin tone and my acne. Having nobody to sit with because of my "weird food", having to defend my friend who was born and raised in India (this is in the UK, I'm British) from people bullying her about her accent. I actually hated, hated, that I was indian and had such internalised racism, I stopped speaking Hindi, I hated going to temples, because I was being weird, I was being "too" indian. Ooh, also I get the hair thing, I was dressed in a unicorn onesie and some boy called me "unibrow corn" which, not creative, in the slightest. 0/10. Dealing with racist old white ladies, who trip me over. And oh, being a girl. Two boys slapping my a$$ when I was seven because I was the weird, quiet, chubby indian kid who should be so lucky to get their attention, to get any attention from males at all and it was such a "funny" joke. It took me five years to tell my mother, or anyone really because I thought it was normal, and I just felt dirty, I felt embarrassed, I felt like it was my fault. That I MUST'VE done something to deserve it. And also, there was a teacher nearby who did nothing. Being seated next to a boy and him pulling my skirt and brushing his leg against mines, 10 y3ars old. Being followed home by a man, AND DEALING WITH THE PARANOIA EVERYTIME I come home from school, to look back because having someone follow me home is a thing I have to worry about as a kid, as a th1rteen y3ar old. My mother having to warn me to be careful because there's a r3p1st in my area. Weird one, that to this day, I still feel extremely embarrassed about. Some boys shoving pencils down my pants and smelling it, (I don't fucking know???), felt so weird and creeped out OH, BUT IT WAS SO FUNNY TO THEM. My mother's friend looking at me weird because I wore shorts apparently, and that was enough. This was at 8 or 9. I never wore shorts again. Ooh, also having my developing breasts pointed out by some girls in my class, "Look, she's got boobies!" Yeah, because they're so fun. Overs3xualisation is so fun. Feeling the need to go home before the sun goes down, before its dark because I have to worry about being killed, r3p3d and abduct3d at th1rteen. TH1RTEEN. Holding my keys as a weapon when I walk home, because I could be the next girl on the news. A few days ago, this happened, actually, there were no seats left except the one that happened to be in a row full of boys and apparently APPARENTLY "giving people the wrong idea" by sitting in said seat. I buy my clothes two sizes bigger because I need to "cover up". I need to make myself look undesirable, so people don't look at me the wrong way. I shouldn't have had to go through this, I shouldn't have to worry that I'm going to be next. While I was learning my ABCs and fractions, I was also learning how to defend myself from "creepy men" on the street. I teared up a bit writing this but oh well.

It is really hard for me to see things getting better anytime soon as Asian racism is so normalised everywhere but I know that I'm really fortunate that I live in a country that doesn't have many physical attacks against Asians and it really does hurt to hear someone near my age (Ashley) share her fear of being killed for just being part of the Asian community while I can only imagine what that feels like.

As a white person or any color person you SHOULD respect Asians, as you should respect everybody else in regards to their race/ethnicities. Congrats on being a decent human and respecting Asians, however one decent white person does not over come the mass amounts of racism Asians and other minority groups experience from white people and their systematic racism. This is about white people. And if you don’t see that then you are part of problem, no matter how much you “respect” Asians. Check yourself.

The whole situation that’s going on in the US saddens me. As an asian living in one of the most racist countries in Europe, I know what it feels like to stand out from the crowd. Luckily, I’ve never experienced any physical violence or harassment. But what I’ve experienced, was verbal abuse either from strangers or even people I’ve known. People called me by inappropriate names like ching chong, dog eater, they yelled at me to go back to China, mocked the shape of my eyes and many more. I’ve never really stood up for myself, since I was taught to ignore it and rather avoid it than start an unnecessary conflict. As time flew, I got used to it. And that’s the problem. We shouldn’t get used to this kind of behavior. So thank you Ashley, for talking about this and sharing it with your viewers.

Do you know any other asian or of asian descent that live in other countries and their experiences with racism (i ask this because i don't know any asian person)? If you have travelled to any other european country, have you experienced more or less hate and racism as a tourist? Is there any european country that you think is more open to foreigners, especially poc? And how did the covid-19 worsen the racism? You don't have to answer if you don't want to, i've been wondering about these things for quite a while now, but i don't personally know any poc and i would really apreciate if you or some one else provided me with answers. In Czech there is a large minority of vietnamese people, so I have a lot of asian friends and most of them had to go through racist comments while growing up too. It's not that bad now anymore, because older generations tend to be racistic more and the younger generation is more open and accepting. A lot of countries in Europe is more okay with poc, like Germany, France etc.. I think Czech people are more conservative (not all of them ofc, I have a lot of amazing friends). When covid started some poeple had some rude comments like "it's your fault" or when I rode in a subway or any other public transport some of them hid their mouth and noses under their clothes assuming that, because of my asian descent I have coronavirus :)). @@LinhLuong-kd4mq thank you so very much. I come from slovenia where there's not many foreigners (we're not exactly a promised land). In slovenia most people live in the country or smaller towns (the town where my school is has a little over 5000 inhabitants) so I'm not exposed to many people let alone foreigners and/or poc. There are some people here that are asian or of asian descent (adoptees). I don't know what they're going through because i don't personally know them, but i think (and hope) people are not treating them differently based on their looks, since living in a small town like this and looking different everybody has heard of you and got used to you living here. (plus asian adoptees are as much slovene as i am, for asians living here though depends on what they identify with). I can't tell for bigger towns and cities though. I've always thought that we are quite accepting to foreigners (well there's still some work to be done in accepting muslims and south slavs, but that's the typical balkan thing) and poc, but again there's not many so i can't tell. Maybe you get a glance or two more on the street, but that's just because we're curious that's it. I do think that you can still encounter racists here like evrywhere, especially with the older generation.
