Western game company : making game to promote so call DEI. Asian game company : making game fun to play. that is the different.

Asian games are taking over? That already happened since Atari imploded in the 80s.

Advantages of Asia: 1. demographic: size do matter, east asian market also has a few characteristic; highly urbanised, a good ratio of 30s with spending power, cultural uniformity. 2. localised media: a healthy local media can both help promote games as well as provide talent. no doubt the anime industry help feed the games industry. 3. Sony: around the time of PS3, Sony begin taking notice of indie games, and they supported the growth of indie studio by providing their kit FOC. 4. Tencent: after investing in Epic, Tencent heavily push unreal technology into Asia, massively growing the available talent pool of people familiar with leading edge engine. Disadvantages of West: 1. overfinancialisation: most major studio are public company or has some weird holding company setup. this means profits are going to interest payment and dividend. 2. overly unionised media: strike in the media industry tend to have spilt over effect to the game industry. 3. cancel culture: lead to bullying and good people quiting the industry. this isn't only a DEI issue, DEI is just a very small part of this. i seen poc bullied of a job too. 4. Microsoft: they no longer support small developers, preferring to spend their gold buying big studio which lead to more of point number 1. I worked in gamedev in Asia. I know alot of dev hate working for Tencent. but as the chinese saying goes, someone has to plant the tree in the past for us to enjoy the shade today. its like IBM, not many use IBM computers today but without them, US tech industry would be alot smaller today. but of course most of the gamers will just scream OH ITS DEI rather then to look at industry problems, the decline of Western studio occur well before wokism... remember the guy that created the Sims... he left EA a long time ago because he could already see the problem in those "too big to fail" studios even back then, but it was the HD era that really started to break the industry... and since it allows franchise eat up a big chuck of the market. it does not encourage anyone to create anything new.

I don't think DEI means anything in Japan. If you ever watch anime and pass game stories. They bring in "dei" becuase it's different, interesting, wierd or ridiculous " Western implementation if dei is the issue.

Since I was a child I was way more attracted to eastern games than western ones, before even knowing they were asian or etc, they were always more fun, creative, imersive, cool and overall way more awesome

Man i love lies of p. P's outfits and handsome face is what I dream of looking like ( i am a pretty face boy 😅). Even the gameplay, the story, i mean i loved the idea of turning a novel into a souls game. I didn't even focus on the story of sekiro that much as i did in lies of p.

Korean and Chinese game mostly develop in PC games not in console. Chinese game now dominated in Android game. And it's a big money for Chinese game developer.
