Shudra got converted to Islam to escape from slavery , vaishya with buiseness interest flourished in British era. Shudra with population flourished in democratic era. Nothing is permanent except the change. When buddha and basavanna told varna is bad to society; brahminism crushed thier voices. If not India would not have been ruled by others; if Buddhism had flourished in India. But when Muslims arrived, manuvadi got surrendered.
