It is such an odd economy. Labor is so cheap. There are zero protections for employees and no gov't assistance for the unemployed, so there is zero incentive to make anything more efficient. That means more people are employed. The products they make are low quality, but also very cheap, so people can afford them, but the products don't last very long. So, there is a constant demand for products which keeps the manufacturing going, creating the demand for employees. Of course, the downside is there is very poor working conditions, poor employee health, lots of accidents and an ever-growing working poor that have no opportunities for a better life. It is being stuck in the 19th century for eternity.
