Hi there, I can also recommend a book: "Pricing & Ethical Guidelines" by the Graphic Artists Guild. It is revised every year I think. I had not thought of even looking for an online rate calculator!

Totally :) That's actually a great book 👍 I included in the video I made on 5 books every illustrators should read 😉

Thank you for sharing these resources! I agree this isn’t something talked about and can be confusing for many artists. Have you thought about making a video about writing up contracts or business proposals for clients?

Hello Asia! Amazing video as always! Very helpful and tons of beautiful insights. I have a few questions (or maybe video ideas?) if that's okay :) 1. As someone who's starting out in the illustration industry, when should I start charging for my work? (A bit of background, I'm still very new to the industry, still working on my portfolio, etc., when would be a good time for me to say to myself, "Alright, NOW, I can start selling prints/offering commissions!" Should I polish myself for a year before I start offering work? I hope my explanation makes sense) 2. What are your thoughts about applying to agencies or having an agent? Pros and cons? Thank you very much! :)
@AsiaOrlando4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carisha thank you so so much! for the agent I remember I talked a bit in my last Q&A, but I think it depends really on the artists, is too subjective. For the first one, I believe every artist should charge for their work always but in regards to the time, this is when you are comfortable with your art. I have a few videos around this kind of subject planned for my patron, and also here :)

It will all depend on what you want to do, so I cannot recommend something specific, just surf the web for something that fits what you are looking for 😊
