The new Asics Trabuco MAX is an interesting trail running shoe - incredible grip and underfoot protection, but a horrible upper/tongue/lacing system. I'm curious what YOU think of the new addition to their trail line?
@cepheus034 жыл бұрын
I haven't run in many Asics shoes, but I'm curious if you could rip out the speed lace system and replace it with standard laces. If that would change the lock down at all?
@therogueunderdog4 жыл бұрын
I have the FujiTrabuco 8 which is one of the very few stability trail running shoes, it is very comfy and trustworthy. Also bought the FujiTrabuco Sky, that is a big miss to me. The upper is great in terms of materials, but the laces are kinda similar/the same as in this Max version and that kills it. Also the lugs on the Sky are just not deep enough. They gotta go at least 6-7mm if they wanna compete with the Evo Jawz or the inov8 G210/G235.
@therogueunderdog4 жыл бұрын
@@cepheus03 Probably not. Most shoes with these speedlace systems use them on a narrower part of the midfoot compared to traditional laces. I can point to the FujiRado (BOA system, back in '18) and the FujiTrabuco Sky which is kind of the same as the Max. Funny thing is their normal laces work just fine in the simple FujiTrabuco.

I just bought a pair of these shoes, and im really happy about the fit and the lightness when running on the trails, really soft and bouncing, but still in full control - just my experience. Great shoe for rough terrain

Would you say they're true to size?
@davida61463 жыл бұрын
@@runzization I usually get 1/2 size bigger but technically they are true to size. My foot is just a bit wide so the 1/2 size bigger is more comfortable for me.

Would you say that this shoe could be used as road to trail shoe?
@yazevans4 жыл бұрын
I love the Fujitrabuco 8s. Yes a bit heavy but they're the only thing that fit my feet like a glove. The midfoot and toe plates are amazing when running the trails so you don't feel a thing when jamming your foot in places. It has a standard lacing system that has long laces but the tongue has a pocket to tuck them into.
@adventurefreak62104 жыл бұрын
Hey Brother , are they true to size ? I wear 9 UK , should I go one size up with Trabuco just in case of good toe box space for downhill ?
@iberiksoderblom4 жыл бұрын
Well, I have a very high instep, making that high tongue really great. Many shoes have a short tongue, where the lace-knot end up right on or above the tongue. And the wider forefoot..., its not that wide. The NovaBlast fits perfect. The Trabuco is slightly more narrow. But agreed the heel should have more traditional good Asics hold. This is a great mudshoe. A terraintype often forgotten for rocky and dry trailterrain. But its a bit of a heavy shoe and much to expensive !!! So I've returned the pair I tried and will not buy them when the come out. In Denmark we run 90% slippery deep mud and gravel. Thanks for another really great review.

My first pair of running shoes were the ASICS gel Kayanos waay back in 2008/9 or so... Ran in them until they literally fell apart. ASICS in general has been hit or miss. Love em or hate em. But I discovered HOKA and New Balance and I never looked back.

I love how most KZbin comment sections trash ASICS or say RIP ASICS or whatever, yet the majority of runners I see no matter where I travel are wearing ASICS. Is it just the cool thing to crap on ASICS?

I Noticed the same thing. I guess the average joe gravitates towards Asics and the nerds (that whatch these videos) look at all the other brands too 🤓

A good compromise could be the gel trabuco 9? Less cushioning and it’s technically a stability shoe but regular laces and no giant tongue? Same outsole so could be a winner!

I found this shoe very confortable, for a wide foot i find the lockdown very thight. Good space in the toes area. Can't wait for the second version if tey make one.

Hi, I have a pair of the Trabuco Max. I have worn them on a few outings mix of on/off road and really comfy. Recently completed a trail half marathon in them and they were comfy underfoot and the toe plate protected my foot when kicking a rock. The downside I found the stack height too high and due to uneven ground went over my ankle a few times and the lacing system felt like it became loose during the race with lockdown being poor. I'm thinking about putting standard laces in to see how that would work. I also have Asics glide ride which are lovely shoes, just sketchy grip on anything but tarmac I've found.

I’ve always had to run in ASICS gel kayano due to lower back problems. Recently brought 2 different Nike trainers, turbo and Infinity react both give me back pain. Brought the lite version of gel kayano 25 absolutely love um also added GTX Fuji trabuco 8 to my collection yet to try due to injury

First few pairs of running shoes were Asics. I find their road shoes for me to be quite uncomfortable but still have my first pair of Gel Sonomas and they have been great. Nowadays, they are no good for running but still so comfortable for a short walk or odd jobbing.

I get it about the tall tongue aesthetically, but you are wrong about the ankle and heel slipping out, not being able to anchor down. It is much more secure than the Trabuco 9 I tried, which my foot kept coming out of. I had no problems with the Max. These Max are very comfortable; almost as cushy as my Nimbus 23’s but not quite; most road runners aren’t after all, but great comfort for a trail runner. The lacing system isn’t as good as my Super Crosses but it’s not as bad as some of these reviewers are dramatizing; actually it’s not bad at all. Anyway I think this is a great alternative to the Hoka Speedgoat; does the Hoka have a lace garage?

Asics had a great trail shoe sorta similar to this shoe back around 2000, I think it was called the Gel Eagle or something like that.

Thank you. The Trabuco Max will be £145 in the Uk so I guess $150 in US. I'm hoping your negative comments about the failure to lock down is subjective, i.e. down to YOUR foot! Time will tell. We have it due here at The Complete Runner UK in January along with the Trabuco 9 and perhaps the most exciting new model in the Black/Digital Aqua trail range....the TRABUCO TERRA......at £100. The Terra bridges the gap between the SONOMA and the TRABUCO in the ASICS range and will have a far greater appeal due to price and function than the Max. Look out for 2 new racing shoes from Asics...the Hyper Speed ($90!!) and the MAGIC SPEED with plate ($150?)

Question that I've been wondering. The Flyte Foam blast material seemed to be great, but it feels like Asics is under-using the material in new releases. Why? I get not putting it in all of their models across all price points, but almost no shoes at all get the FFBlast treatment.

Been looking into this one... Have done both 41 miles, 31 miles and 20 miles long runs this month in the FuijiTrabuco Lyte and been enjoying the experience. Not 100% satisfied with the grip when its both steep AND muddy though. And could do with a bit more mid sole. And actually really been enjoying the upper! If durability of these is similar to the Gel Fuji Trabuco 8 please let it pass by! Both my wife and have been wearing the Fuji Trabuco 8 on mild trails for only 200 KM now. Comfort (wide toebox) and grip is ok for our usage but they have started to fall apart: 1. The inner lining / upper mesh is not durable; our toes are starting to poke through, and that is with not having upright shaped toes, our toenails clipped to the flesh and wearing decent socks. 2. The inner lining and outer fabric around the ankles is stitched on the edges of the material, this is coming loose. So we are no happy Asics trailers and will need to look for a better alternative.
