The ASICS Magic Speed 3 finally delivers on that session shoe promise that we've been looking for from ASICS - a shoe that is between the daily training Novablast and the race day Metaspeed Sky + (or Metaspeed Edge +). The shoe is great for everything from moderate efforts to mile pace, and makes for a run uptempo trainer.

I’m a very slow runner and not even attempting to be anything near an average speed. Bought these shoes because after almost 4 years of running, I was just curious about the carbon plated shoes. Am I faster now, of course not. But, I doubled my comfortable stamina and I have no lower back pain and no hip pain in these shoes. They work absolutely fabulous for my comfort. I’m in love with them. Best shoes for me so far.

I think a lot of the average runners don't buy specific high end race day shoes but rather have their daily trainers along with something to do both their fast workouts and races in.

Well said , often our race day shoe is same as our speed tempo workout shoe . For me it has been saucony speed or adios pro 3s serving in those roles .
@JTD33

@@pbnotj1 Exactly, so you need something that can be noticeably quicker than a daily trainer but also comfortable over longer race distances, along with having decent durability and not being crazy expensive. That's quite a difficult combo! Saucony Speed seems to be one of the few shoes that checks all boxes.

I was using the Endorphin Speed for all my races in 2022 and ran 22:32 in October for a new 5K PR. After that I bought the Takumi Sen 8 and the Endorphin Pro 2 to race in, but I haven’t cracked 23 minutes in six 5Ks so far this year. 😑

I think that was the case a few years ago, it's easy to get a pair of carbon-plated race shoes for close to £100 now, making them more accessible to the average runner.

True , that is how I got an adios pro 3 (on steep discount). Cannot always find those deals in common sizes . I like these reviews as i sometimes find I prefer the speedier trainers for instance rhe saucony endorphin 1 and 2 I liked so much I never tried a carbon racer until this year .

Just picked up the Magic Speed 3 to replace my old Saucony Endorphin Speed 3's. I have to say I think I enjoy the Magic Speed 3 more than the Endorphin Speed 3. The Endorphin Speed 3 is probably a little more comfortable, but the Magic Speed 3 feels faster. It's lighter and you do feel the difference in the carbon plate in the Asics vs the nylon plate in the Saucony shoe. The shoe feels more secure in sharp corners, probably the result of a slightly firmer compound of midsoles. The upper in this shoe is awesome. It's light, comfy and yet gives a good lock-down. It's not a carbon super shoe. It really is a daily trainer but with a carbon plate. It's probably best suited for speed work, although I did a 10-mile easy run in them to break them in and the shoes were fine. You just get a hell of a lot of shoe for the price point.

I find the Speed 3 to be a flawless running shoe now. When I first got it I thought it was a step back from the speed 2 but now after a lot of km including races I think it's extra stability over the speed 2 makes it a better all rounder. I'd pick the Asics over the ts9 though. I find the ts8 to be too racy for training and prefer a bit more comfort. Primarily use the ts8 for 5k Pb attempts 👟

I absolutely love my pair! It took a min too break in but they feels absolutely amazing and super smooth. As someone that over pronates. These feel very stable. I was on the hunt for a workout shoe that I could also take on uptempo long runs and do tempo works and track workout in and have absolutely love these! Compared to the endorphin speed 3, these feels a lot more uptempo and bouncy and racey. The endophin speed 3 really didn’t lock me down at all and was to much of a daily trainer feel to me.. Durability has been great as well. For the price I can’t recommend these enough. I have a cloudboom echo 2 and been using that a lot so I can save that on racing shoe. The carbon plate is bottom loud in the front which is super nice because it doesn’t feel really aggressive at all but also very snappy and smooth

Hate to say it but honestly it comes down to style and the colorways for me, i mean nowadays all the shoe brand's lineup are very similar and you likely won't go wrong with any one of them, so at least pick the one that looks the best. My shoe rotation would consists of a cushy daily trainer for comfort (Puma Forever Run), a more responsive low stack work out shoe for the track (about to get a Takumi Sen), and a race day / longer tempo shoe (Alphafly 1 for race day, Adi Pro 3 for workout)

it would be difficult for me to answer that for you. I have experienced no traction issues in the novablast in wet conditions and no durability concerns. but my intuition would be that the extra little bit of rubber on the NB TR is not going to resolve what you are experiencing

@@kofuzi thank you for taking the time to answer - am also considering trying the Velocity Nitro 2 which might be a good alternative with a better outsole. Which has better energy return, Nike Zoom Fly 4 or Asics MAGIC SPEED 3?

Is it that much better than the Magic Speed 2 especially when the 2 can now be had for around $95? Should I spend the extra $65 to get the 3?
@kofuzi
@kofuzi Жыл бұрын
here's the thing, version 2 was pretty polarizing. and by polarizing, it seems like I was the only one who liked it. For me, a $65 discount is pretty substantial, and by the time I'm done with the 2, I can hopefully then get the new version at a discount. but some people really disliked version 2, so the $65 saved doesn't do you much good if you don't like what you've got.

I am a little worried that Asics is going soft with all of their shoes these days. What options do they still offer for a firmer ride?
@EliMarszalek
@EliMarszalek Жыл бұрын
Asics still produces the Hyper Speed, which has a firm, single-density midsole, in a classic racing flat design. If you're looking for a firm, minimal ride, that's the option Asics provides for racing or faster workouts. They also produce the EvoRide, which is similar to the Hyper Speed but with a rocker geometry. Both shoes are non-plated and they both utilize a firm midsole compound.

When you talk about paces that are appropriate for a shoe, do you mean by effort or by time? Your easy day pace may be the same min/mi as someone else’s 5k race pace. Would a “fast” shoe still be appropriate for the slow guy running at a fast effort?
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 Жыл бұрын
Kofuzi has stated this as have many others, including my coach: EFFORT. To use my own case to make the point, how would you apply pace to a 72 y.o. female whose age-graded marathon time from last month is now 2:43:53, even though my pace is obviously much slower than that of a runner in their prime obtaining that result? I thoroughly enjoyed my Endorphin Pro3 at my 9+ min pace on the majority of miles on the course and felt those shoes did work better for me than the Endo Speeds I used the previous two years.
@y416
@y416 Жыл бұрын
@@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 thanks so much for clarifying that. I've always wondered if certain shoes that work best when running "fast" would still be appropriate for me, as I am much slower than most all of these shoe reviewers. This knowledge is certainly bad for my wallet, though.

This is a highly praised shoe. However, it is not for everyone. It has a new lockdown feature in the midfoot, which causes immense pain in the foot’s arch when running. I have no idea why they introduced it. It is so poor quality as well. Even the metaspeed dont have this feature.

How does FF Blast differ to FF Turbo is FF Turbo more cushioned?
@IT_Farhan
@IT_Farhan Жыл бұрын
I believe the Turbo is PEBA based, which is springier but less stable
@kofuzi
@kofuzi Жыл бұрын
Turbo is nylon. It is a racing foam, and it’s just a lot more everything. More compression when you hit the ground, more rebound when you push off. It’s not at cushy as a daily training foam, but it’s still quite cushioned for racing, if that makes sense.

I don’t see how Thailand price is very expensive. NVB3 retail price is $140 and in Thailand full price at ฿4900 which is exact conversion of the currency. Other models are treat the same. And if you look hard enough Supersport and Asics put their shoes on sale very very often these day.
