As a follow up to one of my favorite shoes of 2023, ASICS didn’t change…much. But, there are some differences. Glad to know that the Gel-Nimbus 26 middlesole is a little less ultra soft so the shoes can be more versatile. The Asics Gel-Nimbus 25 was the most comfortable shoes I ran last year ,but the extreme softness of the foam made these them my slowest shoes I had in 2023. For a comparison, later in the year I got the Nike invincible 3 that I also loved , but they had/have a very hard middlesole when compared to the Gel-Nimbus 25 . Anyways, I'm trying to find a max cushioning, for me, that is more of a middle ground between the Nimbus and the Invincible 3 ( a bit too fast this one) and the NB 1080 V 13 was not a fast shoes that I thought it would be, but they are definitely a bit less clunky them the slow motion running feeling of the Gel-Nimbus 25 gave me.

I have the Nimbus stability cousin, Kayano 30. For me, the Kayano 30 are nowhere near squishy for a sole that thick. I don’t know if it’s because of the added stability profile or other factors. And it’s pretty heavy, too. Bought another shoes for my daily run, Hoka Rincon 3. Very light, yet surprisingly more squishy than the Kayano 30. Although sadly not stable enough for my overpronating flat feet.

Thanks for the interesting video! How many kilometers should I run to test the new Nimbus 26? For easy runs and long runs with the Nimbus 25, I've covered over 700 kilometers, and I'll take them to 800. They are still in good condition with an indestructible tread! I've rotate them with the Hoka Clifton 9, which have reached the end of their life at 700 kilometers... For faster workouts, I use the Hoka Mach X. I plan to buy the Nimbus 26, but I need to decide on the second pair for easy runs to rotate with them. Will the Clifton be released in a new version?

My experience, 5'9" 180 lbs. I have flat feet and need a touch of stability, but most stability shoes feel super clunky. The nimbus 25 was a good shoe, but after about 30-45 minutes on feet I started to have a little bit of pain in the arches of my feet. Other than that it was great. The nimbus 26 is just a touch firmer, but still pillowy soft with some pop, but it's also about 3 mm wider in the midfoot and in the heel. This gives just a touch more stability and took care of the pain I was experiencing in my arches. Also, the midfoot and heel lockdown is much better. I recommend spending the extra and get the Nimbus 26 over the 25.

How would you compare this to the Novablast? If this is leaning into the daily trainer category, wouldn’t the Novablast be a comparable option at just a slightly cheaper price point?
@ielle.
@ielle. 6 ай бұрын
Keep in mind that the Novablast is still significantly lighter (we're talking roughly 1.5oz) in part because its midsole is much less dense (the biggest difference you'll feel trying both on despite both being FF Blast+ eco) and more rockered than the Nimbus. The Novablast is a max cush daily trainer that leans into the tempo category even if it's still more of a daily trainer. Nobody is going to mistake the newest Nimbus for a shoe with the pace versatility that the Novablast has. The Nimbus is very much still going to be a cruiser. The density of the foam plays a key role in the difference. A comparison would be how the Ride 17's upgrade to PWRRUN+ makes it nearly identical to the Triumph 21 (22 will be getting PB) on paper, but the Ride 17 still feels more versatile in pace due to its PWRRUN+ midsole being less dense than the Triumph's, despite the shoes being nearly identical in weight. The slightly lower drop (8mm vs. the Triumph's 10mm which tbh feels even higher than 10) makes it easier to increase cadence, as higher drop shoes tend to induce a slower foot switch. The Nimbus to me, at least in the 25s, very much felt like an 8mm drop, and though the Novas are listed at 8mm, they feel slightly lower the way that 6mm usually feels to me.

I guess it’s just me when I say that I tried to really like the nimbus 25…but it needed some response and it didn’t give me any. It was good for walking I’ll say. Thought the 26 would be better, but it’s the same. The 24 to me actually gave me more response.

I spent $60 on the DV2 for my interval runs and $72 on the Nimbus 25 for my easy runs. I live in Malaysia, and the prices are converted to US dollars. I enjoy both shoes a lot; however, I still prefer the Nimbus 24, which is more stable and versatile. do not like Triumph 20, it so soft and unstable on the heel, i sinking in down to bottom and pop up back, weird feel.

Maybe it’s because of my weight (around 220) or my easy run pace (around 9:40), but I found the 25 very hard. I’d often end up my long runs (2h+) with aches in my knee and lower foot. I found the Deviate Nitro 2, that I used for everything, to be more comfortable. I think the pace is also important. For @Kozufi an easy pace might be my marathon or half marathon pace, and it makes a big difference. For max cushion, I’m loving the NB More v4

It depends on the brand too. Like Saucony, there was no point buying a Ride 16 when the Ride 15 was the exact same shoe with a slightly inferior upper, so unless the upper was a nightmare for you, what's the point? At least in the 17 they've made significant changes increasing the stack and using an entirely different midsole. Whether you end up loving it or hating it, at least it's different enough to distinguish itself from previous models and justify any decision to buy the newest version. It depends on the brand and model, how significant the changes are, for sure.

2,255 km on my NIKE Zoom Fly Flyknit, just did a 12K run in them this morning. Legs feel fine, 82 kg , 42 YO runner. The React foam made some unusually durable synergy with the carbon plate, plus upper and outsole show no sign of wear to this day! I don't usually get that much mileage out of a shoe, i.e. the Numbus models get to 1,300-1,500 km before they start killing my legs. OG race flats last me 700-1,000 km before retirement. But 700 km on a Nimbus...man, to me they are brand new & feel mint and extra squishy at that point!@@kofuzi

I have been running for 2 years now with 1:45 HM and 19:56 5K PBs. I started with velocity nitro 2 then deviate nitro 2 as racing shoe. I am targeting sub 90 HM. I am thinking about a pair affordable carbon plate racing shoes. Rocket X is now available in India at ~ 85 USD. Is this going to be a good option, even though it’s an older model?

The X2 has a PEBA foam and is a much more well-liked shoe. If you're looking for a budget carbon plated shoe you could look into the ASICS Magic Speed 3 ($160) though note that the plate is a little more flexible/less aggressive than some of the super shoes and it does not use a super foam (FF Blast+ is still nice and it's what they've used in the Novablast which has decent pop, but it isn't FF Turbo which is why it's available at a budget price). The consensus on the Magic Speed 3 seems to be that people like it for up to half marathons. The other options are going for an older model or tbh the Endorphin Speed 3 with its nylon plate could be enough, and they're comfy over distance. A lot of these super shoes make very marginal differences for those of us who aren't elite and not hitting the target pace ranges that the shoes were designed for.

If the Nimbus 26 is becoming a daily trainer, where does the Novablast 4 fit in?
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 6 ай бұрын
I'm not sure the Nimbus is going to go the full direction of the 1080, but even if it were, I'd say that the novablast 4 is still the novablast 4. I don't think the two shoes are dovetailed. Maybe the Cumulus and the Nimbus are more related. But the Novablast kind of sits out there by itself. A substantial change to the Superblast might cause me to question what corollary changes might be getting pushed to the Novablast. But the Nimbus doesn't do that in my mind.
