@@SagasuRunning you have done many great videos in 2024 but the feeling I got after seeing this was maybe the most satisfying. Yes I saw the all white, looks gorgeous. Need to see it from close with this material. With Superblast 2 material this would be unbeatable. Do you think white colorways are back with a vengeance the last couple of years or do they? Even before the EVO 1, thought EVO 1 cemented it?
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
@yiann1sk I don’t know about white colorways being back. I’ve always seen them (at least from Nike)… I’m an all black everything type of guy but I like white running shoes and sneakers… The material is the NB5 is more plasticy than the SB2 upper… I feel like all white will stain less. I swear I saw an all white SB2 in leaks… What was it about this video? Have you been looking forward to the NB5?
@yiann1skАй бұрын
@ good question. I wasn’t looking fwd that much as I had decided to go for EVO SL for daily. I had tried the SB5 in the shop and had some rough ideas about how it could be in the real life and curious what the reviewers would say. The other reviewers haven’t put as many miles and different types as you did and this showed side by side. Thus after those reviews I didn’t have any clear idea for things such as durability or how the foam would be in 50km etc. Or even the trampoline effect. Plus I had a clear question in my mind even I asked you here before if the trampoline effect will last. You even touched on that and beyond. Genius! Add to that my disappointment about Adidas EVO SL release last Thursday, your review was perfect in timing it looks like I’ll get those now. One more explanation might be that I happened to be engaging with you more this period you prepared the video which combined with a great content as this definitely was enhanced the great feeling in the end of the video. I think the way you engage with your viewers is very beneficial for your videos. Also the fact that I am very familiar with SB brand and this historical flash back with the chart made great sense to me but also learnt new things. Let’s say for all the above plus an X factor something clicked.

@yiann1sk Ya, the Evo SL has an annoying release. As I’ve said I’m not planning on seeing one until next spring as I refuse to play Adidas’s lottery games. I appreciate the thoughtful reply. I always like to know why one finds a certain video as useful. I suppose it was good timing. 🤙🏻

I agree with your definition of a daily trainer. In my running career, I've really only used two types of shoes: daily trainer and race-day shoes. And I think for the vast majority of people, that's all they really need; and I also think that many shoes can serve as a daily trainer as long as it fits well, and suits your gait/biomechanics well enough to not cause pain or injury. Over the past 10+ years of training for marathons and ultras, I've enjoyed using all of these shoes as daily trainers: Pearl Izumi Road M3, Saucony Ride 8, Saucony Guide 9, Saucony Breakthru 2, Reebok Floatride Energy 1 and 3, Reebok Symmetros, Novablast 1 (1500 miles!) and Novablast 2 (1000 miles!), Brooks Launch 1, 2 and 6, Saucony Kinvara 4 and 10, and Nike Pegaus 36. And while I liked some shoes a bit more than others and some shoes were more durable than others (especially the uppers), honestly there wasn't some great feature of any shoe that made a noticeable difference in my training or disqualified them from being used for particular types of runs. If a pair of shoes feel good on my feet, then they work for tempo runs or long runs. Having said all that, I'd love to use the Novablast 5 as my daily trainer--but probably in a year or two when they cost more like $100.

Gr8 review! I currently have a one-shoe rotation of NB4 for everything from 5k to 30k runs for marathon training - consequently I've reached almost 200k on them in less than 2 months or so. I ordered a pair of SB2's for the longer runs and race day (as I don't necessarily need a supershoe yet as a runner) but it only arrives in March 2025. So now I'm ordering these to fill that void of the SB2's until they arrive and to extend the life of the NB4's as they'll only be used for sub-10k runs. I don't love this purple colourway - woud've been optimal if they kept the Paris style for all the future models of the shoes they pimped with that look.

I think I will have to give this shoe a shot when it’s available. Also, the Gengar colorway looks very sleek. I’m a big fan of wild colorways with the Noosa Tri having some designs that really stand out, but I think the launch design of the Nova 5s is a nice move to something a little less flashy.

The forefoot of the NB5 is much cleared. The medial and lateral rails on the Nb4 forefoot could feel too wide for some types of running. What added stability for easier running sort of go in the way for faster running. That problem is gone in the NB5. I'll have a a video out today (Monday) comparing the NB5 to the NB4 directly and I'll get into all of the big differences. The NB5 is defiantly softer than the Nb4, but has MUCH better resilience which you notice on faster running.

As a heavier runner the Novablast (3 in particular) has been my most versatile and favorite shoe. The trampoline effect provided a nice bounce when at faster paces and keeps the forefoot from bottoming out during easy runs. So for me it's an excellent daily shoe and very light recovery shoe. Haven't tried the NB4 yet, but may do so if I catch it for as steep a discount as I did for my NB3 as I was able to get 2 pairs at way under $100. That being said my NB3s still have a lot of life left because I have quite a few shoes😅 Also, great job with the review it's the most comprehensive one yet.

Forgot to add this: I really, really liked the graph showing the history of Novablast from 1 to 5. I don't think I've seen such a graphical history of a shoe on any other YT channel. That was an easy, visual way to compare them and help me to see how v5 might compare to versions I've run in (v1 and v2). Perhaps you can do similar graphs using other metrics in addition to craze/calm. And if you can combine different metrics on different axes, perhaps you could come up with a 3-dimensional comparison of shoes. That might be a cool and helpful review tool. Just an idea.

Both my pairs of NB V3 are showing their age (nearing 600 and 700km), find myself at that time of year where I can get the NB V4 on discount, or get the NB V5. And as I suspected, I'm better off getting the NB V5 over the V4 just to save a few bucks. I'm a high volume runner that only uses the NB for easy/recovery and maybe strides thrown in. And as you mentioned, every Asics shoe I have tried (outside of race offerings) always have great lockdowns for my feet. Great review and context, as always.

Most people say the NB4 is less fun than NB3. I have the 3 and I love it, as most people. What I can tell about my experience with that shoe is that it has a break in period. The 1st 150-200 km it is a bit firmer and less bouncy. After that, it's a fantastic shoe with great cushioning at all speeds.
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
I got about 250k (160mi) total into myNB4 last year and found it very consistent. It needed a few K to loosen up and fit the foot but after that it was very consistent and a great long run/cushioned trainer. Still soft, but not spongy. I found it best for easy running, ok at marathon pace, a bit of a chore at half marathon pace and not really suitable for anything faster. Thats fine though...it did the rest so well. the NB4 is one of my top 2024 shoes.

I don't like comparing old generation shoes with new generations shoes. The VN3 is a 2024 model and the NB5 is a 2025. I did like the VN3...and I'll see what Puma does with it in 2025, until then no comparison. I am curious, but leary, of what Puma does to the Velocity Nitro... we should see it at TRE24. I'm only doing one NB5 to a 2024 shoe and that is a video on Friday because the shoes are oddly similar...

Thanks for the detailes review! :) Yours and the one from Run-Are are the best. For me, after hearing diferent opinions: Let's see if the new version is 1.) too soft for my 90kg/200lbs and too roomy of a toe box (my NB 4 TR are "boat enough" houly mouly). Also: Go I 290mm - EU 46 like in GT2000, NB4 TR and Noosa Tri or go I the next smaller size 285mm - EU 45 like in the Superblast 1, Nimbus 26, Kayano Lite 3, Fuji Lite 4? NB4 I haven't tried in EU 45 - just in EU 46 and kept them. Maybe EU 45 like the Superblast 1 will also be ok? My larger right foot is about EU 45,5 or, measured on a piece of paer: 28,4cm in length. So, there is barely any space between my fat big toe at ~28,4cm and the shoes end at 285mm but it is absolutely fine. In the Nimbus 26 itr is perfect - even then there is too much volume in the forefoot - I cannot image having to use this a size larger, then I would slide around in the shoe even with the thickest sock and lacelock etc. I've heard the Glideride max should have a more narrow and lower volume toe box!? For me, Hoka Speedgoat 5 and Mach 6 are super in terms of fit for me :)
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
I've never run in the Glideride Max so can't comment on the size. If you like the fit of the Speedgoat 5 and Mach 6...you definitely have a low volume and narrow foot...the Nb5 could be an issue for you.

Novablast 3 is kinda unstable but its not a shoe I reach out often, not really sure why. Maybe because I like crazy and I expected crazy but its not crazy. And then came the Superblast 2. If Iam entirely honest, and I ask myself what shoe today... the answer would be logical almost always "superblast 2, eh... superblast 2" The first time I held the SB2 in my hands I was like "what... its so light". Wouldnt use the SB2 for footstrenght tho, there I grab the Peg Plus and NB1080v13 Agree the ffblastplus+ is a foam I dont understand the hype for. In the Gel-Kayno 30 its a firm lifeless brick, absolutely horrible to run in except you are a true heelstriker. And in the NB3 it feels.. boring. Idk only foam from asics that really catches me is the ff turbo+ Thank you for another amazing video.
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
I’m the same way on Asics foams…. But FFTurbo+ is very good (I expect the new super soft variant to be FFTurboMax now) and FFBlastMax is very good. They really are focusing on getting their foams in order in 2024 and 2025. Also the NB5 has a touch of that Superblast “a shoe this big shouldn’t be this light”… just a touch though… but it’s there.

How does it compare to other favourite daily trainers as sl2 and evo sl? Glad to hear its a “real” 8mm which might avoid the slapping sensation and very bad transitioning I had with the NB2. (According to runrepeat the NB2 has a real drop of 12-13mm. )
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
I haven't run in the Evo SL, so i can't say. The SL2 is a bit more performance oriented, but comperable. Both shoes do similar things and cover the same ground with the respective brands technology. I find the NB4 a bit more engaging to run in but the SL2 is a bit better for dedicated performance use.

@SagasuRunning29 күн бұрын
@user-wj5hc3tp9v The SL2 is a great shoe, a bit more performance, but it has the pronation issue. The NB5 gives you a more stable shoe that will work for more people. Not exactly a no brainer for many…
@saldinifeАй бұрын
How is the stability of the shoe? I know it's a neutral shoe, but is it too unstable? Thank you so much for your review. I'm looking forward to trying it. The NB4 didn't work for me because my toes kept hitting the toebox. I'm hoping the toebox in this one will be better for me.
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
For a shoe with a foam that has such good resilience, the stability is very good. It's a cleaner implementation of the stability in the NB4 midsole. So for a neutral shoe, with this much foam, surprisingly good. The NB5 has a touch more room int he toebox as for width and height (due to the upper material) but I'm not noticing any additional length like other reviewers have commented on.
@cgazlanАй бұрын
Narrower base? Yessss

3-5mm overall with cleaner tooling in the midsole make it much more nimble. I'll get into all of the details in my upcoming NB5 vs NB4 video, out later today (Monday).

@ nice 👍🏻. For me a tall stack shoes like the more or the nimbus is suitable with wider base for stability. Daily trainer should have normal width base. I don't have the NB4, but I have the 3. The 3 for me the base is already too wide and as depicted in your graphic, it was the least fun shoe in the series. Getting a narrower base + a fun midsole is good news in the 5.

According to RunRepeat the NB3 is 11.5cm in the forefoot and 9.3cm in the heel… I measure my NB5 at 11.5cm in the forefoot and 8.8cm in the heel. The NB4 was 11.9cm in the forefoot and 9.3cm in the heel. Minor differences but they make a big change in the ride.

I've had all the previous 4 versions of the Novablast but it's never been a shoe have ever truly liked mainly because in my rather large size US 13/UK 14 always felt like a lot of shoe - even the v3 which was actually really relatively light (similar to some of my racing shoes) but oddly felt a lot heavier. I did over 200 miles in the v1 but don't think got any of the rest to even 100 miles. You said privately this one might not suit me due to me having long but very narrow feet and I note you mentioned the upper "effectively" fits quite wide even though oddly the outsole you say is a bit narrower - although it still looks fairly wide. I also think with ASICS that until they start offering all their very best shoes to me (they stop at US 13 in the Superblast & Metaspeed ones) do I really want to try this. Right now am thinking should pass on principle regardless of whether this is any good or nor. Will look out for your comparison with say the Peg Plus and maybe even Pegasus 41. The latter might be generally hated (except by us) but I see I have mine now at 224 miles and easily my most worn single shoe this year. That all said good review and am sure for many will be a great shoe. FOMO might catch up with me but it's not on sale in the UK yet as far as I know.
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
The outsole of the NB5 is narrower when compared to the NB4, which was quite wide... I'm also talking about the contact patch to the ground, not at the insole. I feel like the NB5 and NB4 use the same last. The NB3 felt HUGE on my feet and looked huge. I watch a bit of my older videos on it and was shocked how big it looked. Like a swim fin. Though it was lighter than it looked. I definitely don't think you'll get on with the NB5 fit but may enjoy the midsole.

Honestly… I would just pick up the NB5 when it releases in your region… and rotate the two. The his will allow your body to slowly adjust to the neutral-ness of the NB5 slowly… instead of just jumping in with both feet (literally). Moving from stability model to a neutral model is always something done slowly. The NB5 is surprisingly capable for speed work. It would never be my first choice… but as a daily trainer it should be able to do it… and it doesn’t it well.

I am so sad I can’t get these. In the past month I have bought my second pair of Vomero 17’s, Dragonfly 2, and Victory 2. I have like ten other pairs of shoes plus Dragonfly 1’s. I need to either slow down the rate I am getting new shoes or start a KZbin channel.

Hahaha… sounds like starting a YT channel is a must. 💪🏻

So this is the shoe-tuber origin story… hmmm never really thought about it.
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
@TeenTri_Life Honestly it is. I started this channel to talk about the Nike Streakfly and the Adidas Takumi Sen 9. Then it takes on a life of its own…

What would this be comparable to any Brooks shoes?
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
The Glycerin 21 would be closest (it's a reach though)...but much heavier and less versatile...

@ Thank you. I can’t wait to see your review comparing to others this week.

Is this a lighter invincible run 3?

By 50g in US Men’s 9.

@@SagasuRunning ty for taking the time respond. But what I meant is, does this feel the same as IR3 but just lighter?
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
@@jjcornelio7741 It’s bouncier and more energetic than the I3… but in a more versatile way. The lighter feel on foot adds to it as well.

can you run R2R trail with this shoe?
@SagasuRunning10 күн бұрын
I'm not quite sure what R2R is? What I'm thinking it is...this shoe wouldn't even be in consideration.

When it will release in India
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
Dec 1 is global release. Though not sure if India has any delay on that date. Check with local Asics.

@SagasuRunning should I consider this over Pegasus 41

I think this shoe is far superior to the EVO SL which it will be compared with.
@SagasuRunning12 күн бұрын
I definitely will be comparing them as soon as I can get a pair of Evo SLs...so I'll see.
@alb.1911Ай бұрын
I am surprised that you like it, I thought you would find them too soft.
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
It is soft in a resilient way. I dislike soft and spongy, where you just sink into it and that's it. Soft but with a resilient spring/bounce I like. Years of running in ZoomX have made me prefer that type of soft. I'm not saying FFBlastMax is ZoomX... but it is a big step up for an Asics's training foam.
@alb.1911Ай бұрын
@ thank you. Do you have the Nimbus 26 too for comparison?

Am the only one that thinks the 5 "release" colour makes it the ugliest Novablast ever ?
@rumblerumble2276Ай бұрын
I’m with you. I wonder if it looks better in person because on camera it looks awful.
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
It's much better in person. The colors change in different light. It works quite well. It's not my favorite color way of the year... but for Asics, it's very good.
@SagasuRunningАй бұрын
Given the color ways Asics often does on releases...this one is high up there.
