The fact some people don’t understand that brushing curls is NOT an option lmao
@t.h.14925 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth Rhea Nat - you can brush curls in small sections when wet to get defined curls but yeah definitely not when dry (unless damaged and bushy is the goal)
@msbionik5 жыл бұрын
@@t.h.1492 you're really not supposed to brush wet hair. Brushing hair stimulates the natural oils
@t.h.14925 жыл бұрын
msbionik - the only issue I know with brushing curly hair is that it’s prone to breakage. But you detangle with your fingers (or wide tooth comb) and only style with the brush (so the hair shouldn’t snag and won’t break). Natural oils should be a good thing, your body releases them to maintain the hair (but too much is another story but that’s not typically caused by a brush). At least that’s what other hair stylists and the American dermatology association have said.

I like having curly hair because if I want it straight, I can flat iron it. If you have straight hair, you don't really have a way to get natural looking curls unless you perm it. (In my opinion, curls done with a curler don't look natural, though they are pretty in their own way!)

Kurfluffle but she isn’t wrong. Too much oils really damages the hair. You shouldn’t be using oils to replace conditioners and leave-ins.

Sly CANdí Yeah, but that’s like saying don’t use shampoo because it dries out your hair. You’re technically right in that it dries it out, but you need to know *how* to use shampoo in order for it to benefit you, no one is using straight almond oil as a conditioner. You use oil as a way to keep moisture into your hair and prevent outside moisture in the air from getting in.

Have you tried using the curly girl method? This used to be my hair and it was an actual bush. What you want to do is define your natural curls or waves so the hair has volume, but isn’t as frizzy. Look up the curly girl method and I have some tips too! Here I’ll leave a separate comment so this one doesn’t get too long and I wish you luck!
@octopuswiggle49335 жыл бұрын
So the first thing you want to do is to switch your shampoo, conditioner and all products to silicone sulfate and paraben free. If you use an expensive ish shampoo and conditioner (around $6 per bottle or more), you can find similar priced shampoo and conditioner. If not you might have to invest a little more but water down the shampoo(NOT the conditioner) so it lasts longer. If you look up penny Tovar she can teach you to spot silicones and sulfates. Basically sulfates strip your hair of natural oils and silicones make your hair feel smooth but create a waterproof layer that feels shiny but the hair is dry on the inside. Make sure to scrunch your hair with a sulfate paraben and silicone free but lightweight cream or mousse, if your hair isn’t super curly, so it’s not weighed down. Observe your hair after using the curly girl method(look it up, it’s super helpful!) then find a match for your hair type(1a, then there’s all the way from 2a-4c). Don’t be embarrassed to buy curly hair products, remember the cashier isn’t going to get mad at you or question your motives😂 or at least not out loud. And even if they do why should you be ashamed of doing what you can to make your hair as healthy as possible! Look for brands like devacurl and check the ingredients. Anything that ends in -ate,-sulfate, or -cone is a no. Especially sodium laureth sulfate (sls) and dimethicone. Personally I find that longer hair with regular trims reduces the frizz, just because it’s harder for long hair to have that same poofy quality. Try washing your hair 1-3 times a week, and co-washing(just conditioner and a rinse) if it feels too dirty. Use scrunchies and looser elastics and clips in your hair to prevent breakage and give your head a massage every once in a while! Go easy on the oils so it doesn’t have a silicone-like effect, but use a really hydrating silicone sulfate and paraben free conditioner. I’m not sure how good this is for your hair, and it’s pretty expensive(I received it as a gift, but I only use it when I want my hair to look especially put together) is the living proof no frizz styling cream. Also don’t dry your hair with a regular towel. An old t-shirt or microfiber towel is much better. If you don’t have time to air dry, a diffuser is much better than a blow dryer. Know how to scrunch and if you choose to use heat, always use a protective spray beforehand! Sorry that this comment is so long but reply please if you have any more questions, and I hope this helped!

Sami try using a sulfate and paraben free mask for deep conditioning and if you need to break the cast try a little bit of jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is the most like our own natural oils the human body produces.

It's nice to finally see a curly hair video that is also addressed to people not only with very curly hair or very tight curls. My hair is similar to the red-haired girl's and it's one of the few times I've seen a video with tips and product suggestions that I can actually apply to my own hair. Usually it's either a video for straight hair or a video for, like, type 4 curly hair
@ImaniMonay7 жыл бұрын
indie_spirit lol really? Usually curly hair videos are only type 3 curls. They seem to leave 4b/c curls out

The only thing that has ever made my natural curls look amazing is whenever i go to the beach, my hair somehow reacts really well to the salt water and leaves it looking sooooo nice! at least I know i can try this now so i don't just have to wait until summer to have nice hair.

So I am not sure how good they are but they do make salt water sprays to get that effect.
@emilygrace35266 жыл бұрын
Ik this is an old comment, but you can add 3/4 of a teaspoon of sea salt to 1/3 of a cup of warm water, stir it up, and put it in a spray bottle. Lightly misting it over your hair should have a very similar effect as to when you go to the beach. And you can experiment a bit with the ratios to see what your hair likes best! Keep in mind that more salt means more texture and volume, but can also mean that your hair gets weighed down or crunchy. Also, be generous with the conditioner while you experiment because too much salt can dry out your curls. Hope this helps you get the results you're looking for :)

People on this post are rude AF. Both women have about about a 3a/3b curl and it may be different after they stop straightening so much. The people hating in the comments are basically saying their curls aren't good enough to be considered "curly". How hateful. As someone who struggles with my curly hair, this video was exciting to watch, it was also great that two women of color were featured. Be nice....there are tons of videos with 4a,b and c curls on youtube too, that are just as exciting and interesting. Not every curl is the same, not every person is the same. That's the great thing about having thousands of options on youtube to watch.

Yeees. The English hair community is so pretentious about curls sometimes. Unless it's super tight ringlets it doesn't qualify. I'm not used to that IRL lol But I think it's because kinky curly hair is basically nonexistent in my country, hair like the above result is considered really curly here.

im a hair stylist and this almost made me cry! I would be heartbroken when curly haired girls would complain about how much they hate their hair because they dont know what to do with it until i educate them on how to have a routine, what products to use and how to style they are so shocked because they thought everyone had the same routine. Curly hair girls need moisture and not use products with a lot of alcohol in it because curly hair is naturally dry.. the best part is you dont have to wash your hair so much. just rewet your hair and you activate the products again and style.

Wow. The comment section is surprisingly mean today. There's a lot of "they're not real curls" a) their curls are heat damaged and have been getting straightened for a long time b) even damaged, their hair was still obviously curly at the start of the video c) curls are on a spectrum, and there are different patterns and types. Some people have tighter curl patterns, some have looser. d) curl pattern isn't uniform. Depending on the type of curl, it will change shape with length and weight of hair, and most people have different curls in different parts of their head. My curls get tighter, and form Shirley Temple ringlets the longer my hair gets. e) it's just bloody rude to go around telling people, "you don't have real curls". Yes, they do, and they likely have their own hair struggles, which are likely different to yours. Sod off, and quick being a rude $#!+
@Alayne897 жыл бұрын
Their hair isn't wavy. It is actually curly. Look up definitions of curly compared to wavy. Even when waterlogged, you can see a difinite S pattern to the hair locks. And even before cutting and washing, there was a lot of loose twisting and twining curls all throughout their hair.
@tritter157 жыл бұрын
Slauson Donut Except their hair is actually that curly. They didn't curl it with curlers or a one of the curling tools. Their hair was trimmed, thoroughly washed, and dried. And their hair, now getting the treatment it needed, was restored to normal curls. Curls come in a spectrum, with some having looser curls and some having tighter curls. That's just how it is. There are 6 different basic types and both these girls have curls that fit into those types. 🤷🏽♀️
@sneekz077 жыл бұрын
The hair is curly. The reason it appears wavy is because they use heat on their hair, so the curls have dropped aka heat damage.
@katielynn99097 жыл бұрын
Slauson Donut Their hair is heat damaged, therefor its not as curly as it would normally be. Once the hair is treated right, the curls will begin to come to life and be bouncy again. A curl is a spiral, and when you see the end result you can definitely tell that its a spiral. Just because their hair isn't kinky, doesn't mean it's not curly.

A hair dresser I know blow dries in the opposite direction the hair is going to lay. So if you have the hair on the right side of your face, blow dry it towards the left, and vice versa. this is basically cgm. look it up if you learned from this video; you will learn more!! there's a great community on reddit. i learned so much from there, even more than in this video. here are some of my own tips: washing: - don't wash every day. i find that going at least 3 days between washes is best. if you really follow these tips and cgm closely, you can probably go up to 6 days or more. - leave in conditioner, i find, leaves my hair shiny and less frizzy. you can use your normal conditioner or buy a specific one for this. - i condition twice: once massaging my scalp and the next just running it through. i leave most of the second condition's product in as leave-in. - products are important, but i find that application is equally, if not more, important. i use the squish-to-condish method to apply conditioner: squish or squeeze your hair as though you are squeezing water from a rag. i also use 'prayer hands', especially when applying gel: this is using, well, prayer hands, and running your product-coated hands from the roots of your hair to the ends. - don't shampoo with every wash. instead, shampoo weekly, biweekly or monthly. refreshing: - wear a silk or satin bonnet or sleep on a silk or satin pillow to reduce frizz and keep your curls overnight. in the morning, if you're wearing a bonnet, it might go a stiff and funny shape. shake your hair out by shaking your head but don't use your fingers because it will create frizz. - put in a really generous amount of gel when washing. this way, your hair looks better on day two. first day hair may lie a little flat but day 2's volume and definition from the excess gel really makes up for it. - if your hair really needs moisture, turn the shower on with the fan off. put your bonnet on. the steam will revitalise your curls. - you can use water to refresh curls if you have low to medium porosity. mix it with gel or another chosen curl activator and your curls will be looking good. when doing this, though, try only to focus on the frizz. don't wet your whole head. - if you have high porosity (or still medium), your hair may not like water. try argan oil or another serum on any frizz. again, only focus on the frizz. volume: - afro combs are bomb!! make sure to pick underneath your hair by flipping your head over. use scraping and lifting movements to add volume. try not to comb the parts that are visible because it will add frizz. - gel is really good, but if you struggle with volume i suggest finding a good lightweight one. some other things to look for in a gel include how hard the cast is (when it goes hard and you scrunch it out), how sticky it is and whether it itches when dry. - again, if you struggle with volume you could also try mousse. it does the same job as gel but is much more lightweight. - keep your hair parting different when wet so that when you flip it to normal, it adds bounce. drying: - air drying is a great technique but it can be very long. you can plop with a microfibre towel or cotton t-shirt. i find that plopping at 70% dry and keeping it in overnight produces the best results. - before diffusing, wet hair where there is frizz. frizz when wet stays frizz when dry. - when using a diffuser, i don't agree with the video's technique. letting the diffuser touch my hair - especially the ends - can create frizz for me. start on your roots and hover it while keeping your head upside down. change your hair to the side and back to upside down frequently or else risk having your hair look a bit odd and stiff from only being dried upside down. let the diffuser touch your roots only a little. work your way down from the roots and do the least work on your ends. - when using a diffuser, don't touch your hair. it adds frizz and causes some product to stick to your hands. products: - okay, listen, you see a curly hair aisle in your local hair or beauty store. let me be real here: about 80% of it is not suitable for curly hair. it might have drying alcohols, silicones, etc. these are bad for your hair!! - before buying ANY curl products, check them on a cgm site like curlsbot, which checks a product's ingredients for any potential nasty things such as the stuff i mentioned above. - brands i trust include shea moisture (notoriously heavy apparently, be warned), not your mother's naturals, pantene, innersense, etc. remember that not ALL their products are cgm approved so make sure to run them through curlsbot just to be sure. - gels: eco styler, la looks extreme sport, aveda flaxseed & aloe - conditioner: shea moisture coconut & hibiscus, shea moisture african black soap deep cleansing, eden bodyworks coconut cowash, desert essence coconut conditioner, tresseme botanique nourish & replenish - shampoo: giovanni 50:50 balanced shampoo winter: - since it is winter and very cold in many countries, your curl routine will differ. - avoid glycerin!! it is very drying in these cold months and can cause frizz as a result. - get a lot of moisture in your hair (deep conditioning and hot oil treatments occasionally) but balance this out with protein. - (some people's hair just doesn't like protein so this one might not work for you.) oils: - oils in excess are obviously not good for your hair. but a biweekly or even monthly hot oil treatment can revitalise curls. - i recommend sweet almond oil, jojoba oil and red pimento oil. cut: - a good curly cut is essential for beautiful curls. a lot of people find their curls looking flat because they don't have a good cut. - there are many curly cuts you can try. try to find one that suits your face shape. i recommend manes by mell's video on this. - also try to find one that suits your curl pattern. - for 3b hair i recommend the 'foundation cut'. - try to find a curly stylist in your town or city. but if you can't, you can learn from youtube. it may seem intimidating but cutting curly hair is quite easy; you go curl by curl. hope someone finds this helpful lol

The same thing happened to me and my hair. i probably have 5 pounds of hair on my head and it is curly and big. When I was in middle school kids would throw stuff into it, people who sat behind me thought it would be funny to stick pencils in it and get them stuck and see if I would notice, and one time some girls even tried to sneak behind me and cut it off with actual scissors. I started wearing it straight every single day for years until I felt comfortable enough to go back to curly.

Decent tips, I don't wash my hair in the shower, and have 4b hair, so I'll pass them on to relevant parties, but don't let Donatela put you off oil; use it strategically. We use oil to "lock in" the moisture we've already put in our hair through water and products- and BECAUSE oil does not allow moisture and water to pass through the strand, high porosity hair types rely on it to keep our curls styled and un-frizzed through the day. When you layer oil on last it will work wonders, in KEEPING A STYLE INTACT by preventing addition moisture causing frizz (4-type hairs like mine with my high porosity appreciate this) but find your own stratagem to use of oil
@shelbyr21637 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I add on a little oil after adding cream and a bit of gel. My hair has a high porosity and it just locks the moisture in and prevents humidity from frizzing it up.

Yelly Yellez That specific rule works the same for all hair textures. We all should use oil, but you shouldn't overdue it and it should always come after washing, conditioning, and styling. So whether your hair is curly or straight, oil comes AFTER.
@KinkssNCoilss7 жыл бұрын
I agree. I completely disregarded that tip as it doesn't apply to me. If I just use leave-in conditioner on my hair alone, it'll dry out in a day or 2. Sealing with oil keeps it softer and supple longer.
@pretendfriend14177 жыл бұрын
I have type 3a/b hair and oils are kind of a no no for me. I can't use them the same way a type 4 girl does, or my hair would look obviously weighed down and oily. Butters and creams work so much better. I usually mix some oils in creams like shea butter leave in or leave in conditioner for the loc method. Other than that oils are a disaster. What works for type 4 doesn't work for type 3, vice versa. 2 different hair types.

OMG an actual hairdresser that knows how to treat curls?!?! Is this even real? For so long I'd go to hairdressers and they'd wet my hair, pull it straight and then chop off what seems like not much at the time, but when it bounced back up it looked like 5-10cms! These hairdressers of mine with straight, platinum bob cuts had NO idea how to do my curly hair, and it was *always* a sad day to go to the salon... it's so nice to see an expert who knows about styling curls! :D

Sure you can see them, especially the red-haired woman has defined curls. An tight wavy with a lot of volume basically means curly.
@mahletsucks86387 жыл бұрын
Nope, wavy hair isn't a curl. That's like saying an oval is a circle.
@cc-wf4tb7 жыл бұрын
they have heat damaged hair. brushing and using heat will damage the curl pattern and keep the hair from forming ringlets. 3a hair can definitely look like 'tight waves" when it isnt cared for properly. if the girl with red hair stops using heat she will probably have 3a-b curls. the other girl probably has 2c but its hard to say because of the damage. i wish we could stop judging each other over these arbitrary categories though.
