From an artistic standpoint, with the Flavian style, I never thought about how the statue's hair with it's tight curls in the front could simply be an artist's rendition of generic "curly hair". I thought it was literally made up of those tight curls. This will actually make me look at ancient statues differently from now on.
@Akatsukispion
@Akatsukispion 5 жыл бұрын
As an archeology student it's very interesting to see videos like this! Sure it's experimental archeology, but that's what's fun about it. I would have guessed that they would use styles goddesses wore like Artemis and Hera, not just Venus. Or maybe some styles through the different periods and/or social statuses.
@syrenareynolds22

I mean this video is about Roman society not greek so it wouldn't make sense to use greek statues?
@Akatsukispion
@Akatsukispion 5 жыл бұрын
Syrena Reynolds I don't think I said that? I mean you're right, but I didn't say anything against that? Even though it's very interesting regarding what is Greek and what is Roman in terms of statues and their motives. Many Roman status borrow heavily from Greek ones, in terms of composition, motives, body language, sometimes even the whole thing was just copied (especially the ones depicting mythological creatures). But they used very different materials with which the Roman one being way more brittle and such.

@@taritangeo4948 haha, parallel park braids :) actually, you can. Just grab a bit of the hair from both braids in the pin. But in a lot of cases this becomes unnecessary if you use modern techniques. It depends on the style. In the case of buns for example, you can use a large elastic to gather the braids. Since the elastic is hidden at the end, it still looks perfect.

Since you don't really knot the string (except on itself), you should just be able to pull it out from one end or the other. The benefit of using woolen yarn (acrylic craft yarn might work too, I'm not sure) is that it has lots of fuzzies and flyaways that grab onto your hair and help hold the thread in place, but because each tiny fiber is so long, the majority of each one is still caught up in the main part of the twist so it stays on the thread when you take it out.

I have to say it's really neat to see complex historical hairstyles that work for hair like mine. Most videos for hairstyles fall in one of two categories: care for very curly hair (cornrows, box braids, etc.) or videos with women with extremely straight, shiny hair that show you how to french braid your own hair in two minutes -- which doesn't have a prayer of working if you have thick, wavy "ethnic" hair. It's so nice to see styles that not only work for thick "ethnic" hair but that require it!

But even when they had this many knots and the string they didn’t take them off until they showered which was every other day right? Probably bath the body but not the hair ? 🧐 Tbh I think I liked Venus and the other one with the poof on the top 0: I thought it was really pretty. Like what if we brought it back?? 😲

I'm not seeing it. They don't sound the same at all, nor do they look the same at all. The hair stylist has short hair, no added color. So....nah.

Zeina Ian there are lots of videos on ancient hairstyles. The channel Kaptorga made one on hairstyles and then there's a red haired girl recreating real ones and styles from TV shows. She's amazing (but I forgot her name)

Long hair in many societies meant you were wealthy, BUT for the most part hair length was determined by location, fashion, and hygiene. Shaved heads with wigs were popular in some cultures, for instance.

I'll say it in short... The Richer you are the longer hair you have. People who were working with cows or on field they where cutting it in bob because they didn't have time for hair😊♥️
