If you want to restructure the labour relations regime in SA, focus on the anti-small business centralised bargaining council approach to collective bargaining and replace it with a decentralized approach to collective bargaining that relocates collective bargaining between actual employers and their employees. Large businesses that are dominated by large trade unions will NEVER solve the unemployment crisis in SA. We need policies that promote small business.

I am not a Helen Zille fan but I am in total agreement that there is far too much focus on the situation in Palestine - both sides are as guilty as each other - and using this to lead people away from the situation in South Africa where on any given day I could be a victim of the daily genocide in this country. And, as good a journalist as Mr Sampear seems to be I have always found an undercurrent of anti white racism in his interviews and viewpoints.

Their stance is perfectly sound in a country like SA. Simple supply and demand in a free market economy. Like it or not, a minimum wage would be harmful to our economy, which has an abundance of unskilled labour. It's essentially a choice between more people employed at a lower rate, versus far fewer at a higher rate. We need more people with employment, hence a minimum wage is a bad idea.

When supply is high and demand is low, the price is low. When supply is low and demand is high, the price is high. We have a scarcity of skills, not unskilled labour. This is very basic economics that most in SA don't understand or choose not to accept.

@@shafiyaalgiquadra1105 With the 8.2 billion people on the planet, I think the most focus of individuals is on family and the core of their specific onion , the more enabled perhaps extend that to a few layers out , and those who have latitude and vast resources can apply their minds to global events , but when the core is threatened , all is put on the back burner and they are back in the cupola. Very few are prepared to hold their feet to the fire regarding remote events , but many will have strong opinions over the table in a save place of comfort, but often this is hot air and virtue signalling for their agenda- action matters far more than words My sympathy for others wanes when armed robbers come into my home and rape family members when we have guns to our heads , unfortunately it is such life events that form bias and prejudice.
