The first soundtrack that really hooked was (of course) STAR WARS, by John Williams. One of the soundtracks that I have listened to, too often to count, is CONAN THE BARBARIAN, by Basil Poledouris. Is the most emotionally charged, and POWERFULL soundtrack I have ever listened to. Another soundtrack I have listened to too often to count is FIRST BLOOD, by Jerry Goldsmith, perhaps better known as the first Rambo movie. Although I have like 20 soundtracks he has made, and some of them may be objectively "better" I must mention CRIMSON TIDE, by Hans Zimmer. I bought the CD not knowing what the movie was about, or what the soundtrack would be like, went into it completely blind (or would that be deaf?) and I LOVED IT! The fifth and final soundtrack I will mention (although I could no doubt go to 100, easy!) is THE TERMINATOR, by Brad Fiedel. I was very young (most likely TOO young) when I first wathced The Terminator, and the music really got to me. It was the first time I had heard anything like it. This dark, techno, synth, MECHANICAL music, that was both very sad ... but also very uplifting. The end credits when Sara Connor drives off towards her fate, is PERFECT! (BONUS soundtrack, TRON LEGACY, by Daft Punk, one of the best soundtracks ever made!)

Of recent movies, Interstellar and Dune are some of Hans Zimmer's finest work imo. But also, no one talks about his gorgeous work on the original Lion King movie. The orchestral music of that movie still moves me to this day. Speaking of Disney, I think the team of Alan Menken/Stephan Schwartz did some of the most beautiful work. The Hunchback of Notre Dame has some of the most gorgeous music of any Disney movie imo.

I believe tenet is probably underrated for soundtracking. The lengths Ludwig went to make a space of time in the music itself by recording things forwards and backwards then reversing and so on it just adds many layers to the movie

As for soundtracks...I humbly submit just about anything by the late Basil Poledouris - his "Conan the Barbarian" is one of the best soundtracks from the 80s. He also did "Starship Troopers", "The Hunt For Red October" and the live action "Jungle Book" among many others. Absolutely brilliant, powerful stuff.

Adam's story about Jamie buying the big CD player reminds me of the summer I spent working with a crew of electricians. They had a tape player, and only half a dozen tapes. One was The Eagles, and another was Eiffel 65. The struggle to find music that everyone likes is real, and I find Jamie's solution both hilarious and awesome.

Before heading to the gulf for what would become Iraqi freedom or the 2nd gulf war, my cheif asked to borrow everyone's music. He converted everything to MP3's and, with a few easter eggs, burned it to a DvD. We played it on random, and 2 to 3 votes (depending on how many were in the shop) would get a song put on the ignore list. Cheif duplicated anything he thought was short and funny, the one that sticks out was resident evil's soundtrack "the red queen", british girl saying "you're all going to die down here".

Basement storage. My grandfather had a basement workshop. He took small jars, like baby food, pickle, jelly, etc. clear glass jars. He screwed the lids to the rafters and filled each jar with various and sundry things. When you needed something like pop rivets, screws, nuts and bolts, grommets, whatever... You just had to look up and around, everything was there and visible, you just had to reach up and unscrew the jar with the the things you needed. There were also narrow shelves above the chest freezer with jars, and jars attached to the bottom of the wall shelves. Everything small-ish at least, always visible within easy reach.

I inherited an open cabinet unit with such jars attached, and also got other storage based on Best Foods mayo jars of various sizes, but today's plastic storage just won't go the distance. I keep seeing broken plastic bins thrown on the sidewalk. Banker's boxes aren't so cheap today, but they are perfectly modular, reusable, and recyclable.

For me nothing really beats Into the Spiderverse: The soundtrack has its own storyline, and speaks so much about the characters and their backgrounds. Also, Sunflower will _always_ have a special place in my heart. Michael Giacchino knocked it clean out of the park with Coco! I end up singing "Juanita" and "Remember Me" to myself at least once a month. Blue Planet 2, though not really a movie, was also bloody amazing! Hans Zimmer is an absolute master! I would be interested to know what Adam's choice of video game soundtracks would be: personally Destiny and Destiny 2 has some unbelievably moving pieces, Halo as well. The Assassin's Creed 2 saga has some beautiful pieces that helped bring the world to life.

I used to be active in a chat group for soundtracks and we all loved Jerry Goldsmith. I'm probably being out there by saying that my favourite one of his is The Burbs, it's so fitting like anything Jerry Goldsmith did. There's so many film soundtracks that are wonderful to listen to on their own and deserve any attention they get. The Truman Show has a superb soundtrack by Philip Glass and Burkhard Dallwitz and I don't think I saw anyone mention it! Something great about it, which you also find in the Shawshank Redemption soundtrack, is that there's these fantastic set piece soundtracks where they are fantastic but are better heard with the preceding track(s) going into them. People will listen to Truman Sleeps but miss out if they only listen on youtube from not having Reunion play before it. It leads into it beautifully. I could honestly start a youtube channel about soundtracks lol... I wonder if Adam has listened to the In Bruges soundtrack, it's quite a dark but compelling soundtrack by Carter Burwell.

Right after the question was posed, I chanted _Bladerunber Bladerunner Bladerunner!_ and you delivered! Now on with the rest of the video... Edited to add: Atomic Blond (2017, starring Charlize Theron) had an _amazing_ period-correct eighties soundtrack, with (not original to the movie) hits of that time, which was very powerful in evoking that particular Cold War zeitgeist: songs from Nena, David Bowie, Public Enemy, New Order, The Clash, Queen, Eurythmics, Depeche Mode... Very very powerful if you're born in the seventies, because it taps straight into your memories!

Again, Adam takes a simple question and gives so much. I have a nearly impossible time coming up with any top 5 or 10 of anything, it depends on my mood, what I've listened to or watched lately, etc. Charles Potris's novel True Grit is a short novel, and both movie versions stay very close to the book and use most of its wonderful dialog.

I have to throw two soundtracks out since there is some overlap between my top five and Adam's top 5. First, the Rock. This movie I feel like was the pinnacle of the over the top 90's action movies and Hanz Zimmer was who you went to for over the top action movie scores. The score to the Rock is also what I consider the peak Hanz Zimmer score. The second I will throw out is DragonHeart (also coincidentally another Sean Connery movie). This is a sword and sorcery movie that I think is criminally under rated and the soundtrack is better than it has any right to be. This was the CD that played as background music to my teenage Fantasy RPG games or when I was painting my pewter miniatures. There are parts that still almost move me to tears when I hear them.

Two excellent questions. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I really wish music companies would loosen up a bit on rights for some of the brilliant music out there so we are no longer tortured by the 'muzak’ in lifts, hotels and shops. Its never a good shopping experience for me. When i was young, most of my musical enjoyment was movie themes. SciFi and Westerns mainly with a bit of classical organ music thrown in. Atmospheric background soundtracks are interesting too. But to be extremely cliche, my favourite has always been the Close Encounters mothership communication scene. The whole thing is just so beautiful. Storage is a whole other thing with me. My major gripe has always been with what they do in the designs to make storage boxes stackable. Why arent they parallel sided (theyre usually narrower at the bottom) and why are they shaped in such way that theres always too much wasted but unusable space in them....and between them when theyre stacked side by side. IT DRIVES ME MAD!!. Could you come up with a better design Adam?

It's hard to choose 5, a couple that stand out for me would be Last Of The Mohicans True Romance So many Hanz Zimmer, Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams ones, too many to mention.

Thanks so much for this! Now I'm grooving on Carter Burwell! Actually, I saw The Alamo in '04 and really enjoyed the fiddle moments from Davey Crockett, but never thought to check out the soundtrack. Thanks for re-reminding me of this.

Check out the soundtracks for: "Country" (Windham Hill, 1984) and "At Middleton" (Arturo Sandoval, 2013). "E.T." (John Williams, 1982) isn't too shabby either. Enjoy.

Pulp Fiction, Last Action Hero, Queen of the Damned, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Blues Brothers, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Wayne's World, Austin Powers, UHF (Weird AL), to name a few off the top of my head. Storage, I like Sterilite 15Qt and 27Qt containers. Made in the USA! They have a clear-ish Polypropylene (PP) that doesn't shatter like the other brands that I've tried. Lids are interchangeable and have latching handles. Two 15's are the same height as a 27. I get them locally at Menards. Very reasonably priced. Don't forget the lid/cover when you buy them! Easy to do. Thanks for the soundtrack tips! I'm going to check them out. Used to be a great way to learn about new/other bands back in the 80s and 90s.

I think one thing worth noting is a difference between soundtracks and scores. The example I hold up is Tim Burton's "Batman." Prince provided the soundtrack, while Danny Elfman wrote a brilliant score. A lot of films release both together, with a few soundtrack numbers and a few score tracks. But the two things are separate entities.

What's the difference/deliniation? Is it just existing songs used vs sheet music specifically for the film?

_Magnolia_ has an incredible soundtrack. It's part Supertramp, then a lot of Aimee Mann with classics like "Save Me" and "Wise Up". At the end of the (incredibly long) movie, the characters actually start singing the latter as they each reach catharsis. For something completely different, I loved the _Little Mermaid_ recorded before Howard Ashman died.

Bladerunner is easily my favourite - first CD I bought in 1994 as a special order the local shop had to ship in. still listen to it regularly. Polidouris was also excellent in general - but particularly for Conan. Every piece conjures a specific part of the movie.

Bundy Ginger Beer. Love it! If you can get it there, they release a limited edition Spiced Ginger Beer around Christmas time. When it’s available, we stock up on it to last until the following Christmas. It’s terrific on it’s own but goes down great as a mixer with rum or whiskey.

Definitely a lot of John William fans in the comments which is fair; John Williams is, after all, the man. 1. Fellowship of the Rings. Concerning Hobbits and The Breaking of the Fellowship, specifically make me feels every time. 2. Pirates of the Carribean 3. Star Wars. 4. Nightmare Before Christmas. Just everything. 5. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Parts of the Overture are so recognizable that you've almost definitely heard it even if you haven't seen the film if you lived through 1990-2010. Morgan Creek and "There is only One Disney" are examples. Honarable mention: The Cowboys

I have a playlist of close to 1000 songs from various tv shows, movies and video games including incredibles, Star Wars (somewhere like 300 Star Wars songs and covers lol), halo, the expanse, Phineas and ferb (cause I’m young and that brings out my inner child) and John Williams in general. I play it while working at my colleges dining hall and the students love it

The musical theme of many ot the tracks from True Grit (including "The Wicked Flee") is based on the 1887 hymn "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms." The track "A Quarter Century" is based on the 1870 hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." It's possible that other True Grit tracks utilize melodies of hymns that I don't happen to recognize. The tunes of those old songs can certainly inspire powerful emotions.

Allow me a bit of pedantry, but I'd suggest that the Coen's True Grit is based more on the original source novel by Charles Portis, than a remake of the John Wayne movie.

I love the old western soundtracks - if you have never heard "Theme from the Magnificent Seven" on the TelArc/Cincinatti Pops "Round Up" CD, do yourself a favor and look it up. That whole album is so good, as it gives these classic tracks the punch they deserve. Jerry Goldsmith's "The Wind and the Lion" is a favorite of mine, as is Basil Poledouris's work on "The Hunt for Red October". And let's not forget Sergei Prokofiev's magnificent "Alexander Nevsky".

Another someone I'd recommend checking out, if you haven't: Tom Tykwer. He (and two others: Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil; together the "Pale 3") does the music for almost all of his films, and... it ends up so well fit to the film (ref 2:09!)... AND, nice to listen to. In particular, you mention stuff that's fun to drive to, and I forget how long I had the _Run Lola Run_ soundtrack in my car, listening over and over. It's good stuff. :) And _The International_ has a delightfully creepy sort of soundtrack, _Drei_ a melancholy one, etc. Again: worth checking out, IMHO.

1.Anything Hans 2.Prisoner of Azkaban 3. Holes 4.Swiss Army Man 5. Jennifer’s Body You got some classic orchestral stuff in there, a soundtrack made by a band for a movie, Harry Potter with the best rework and combination of music and theme styles, and hole and JB with just some good ass music. This is off the top so I’d have to think harder but those movies I could listen to forever.

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once is not only one of the best movies ever, but has a great OST too, done by Son Lux. Hereditary had a great dark OST, by Colin Stetson. VICE OST by Nicholas Britell was perfect, Zimmer's Tenet OST, Clint Mansell in countless of things like the San Junipero episode in Black Mirror, Philip Glass' Truman Show OST, Rupert Gregson-Williams and The Crown's OSTs set the atmosphere perfectly... Finally, Adam went old school with the Blade Runner OST, but I'll even more old school and say that Bernard Herrmann is criminally undermined, he was one of the greatest OST composers and people like Danny Elfman borrow, knowingly or unknowingly, from Herrmann constantly.
