"In universe" is the most exciting part of prop or cosplay making. One of my favourite things that Adam has built is his Captain America cosplay storage box. It fits perfectly in universe even though it was never there. I'm very much so looking forward to seeing Adam's Mandalorian suit for similar reasons. How will it be stored? How will the armour attach to the suit? Velcro is the obvious choice and likely what they use on set, but in universe how would it work? Would also love to see Adam build a trunk from Harry Potter from scratch. I know you can buy second hand trunks and fix them up but it's hard to find the perfect style in decent quality these days

I ran into this problem when sourcing a pulse rifle kit. I posted it onto a group on Facebook and the barrel length wasn’t exactly correct so the members kinda threw a fit. I’ve never been a hero or screen accurate guy but just like real world military most rifles they use have different barrel lengths so I just labeled it as a carbine version of the pulse rifle. It’s believable in universe so I’m not going to lose sleep over it

Any suggestions on where I could get the sum prop dimensions for Fett's EE-3 from either film? I couldn't squeeze any help from the communities that I asked. The sources I found were contradictory/incomplete.

@@Dan_Cattell_Art best bet would be the 501st Legion database for their costumes. Most of the time in the advanced certifications you can find the exact real life item that was used for the blasters and such which makes it easy to get exact measurements.

I did a prop flame thrower for an R.J. MacReady cosplay I did for Megacon one year. Seeing that the flame throwers in the film would have been army surplus that was brought down to the Antarctic and my Dad was former military, he explained that for army that any equipment that suffered any dents or dings that would cause the paint to break off would get a fresh coat over the item in camo green. So, after each round of paint I did for the tanks, I caused some physical weathering and and then add another layer on top to give it the impression that it has had several dents and bumps over it's time in the military before it finally found it's way to the Antarctic area to.

Very neat attention to detail, funny how we search for authenticity in our deceptions 🤣

My favorite thing to do before and during a build is figuring out what each accessory does in-universe. Why would they have that knob on their gauntlet? What does that pouch hold? What is that scratch from? They're all little anecdotes that come together to tell a broader, richer story.

I like The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai for that in-Universe feel, especially the various Oscillation Overthrusters (Banzai's and Lizards/Whorfins). The makers said that they wanted the props to appear as if they were made by someone with more ideas than money, which sums up the movie as well as can be.

Hah, my R2 has never had intentional weathering, rather 5 years of 'natural' weathering from going out in public. Including a recent cigarette burn (gotta love the public!). I'm currently giving him an overhaul to fix broken parts and tighten loose screws, etc. One thing I won't be doing is cleaning up any paint work or dings. All just adds character to him.

First, you are awesome. Second, I switched to the Oticon More 2 miniRight hearing aids about 15 months ago because that's what Kaiser sells. I have a mixed nerve/conduction hearing loss from an explosion. Moderate in one ear and severe in the other. They sit in a charger overnight. No more messing with batteries and sudden hearing aid death. First I thought I'd miss the batteries but OMG, never have I run out of juice even during 16 hour shifts. Plus if I'm somewhere where I just want to sit and read but the noise is too much, I can turn them down or turn them off from my phone and put on an ocean background to mask anything getting through. The loudest place can be a quiet oasis. I work in healthcare and there are a lot of changing sound environments where being able to understand people is critical. Let me tell you, I was looking down the barrel of a phone triage job before I got these things because my speech recognition was dropping off a cliff. Now I'm back, confident, and safe. Again, you are awesome.
