This NZ Government's decision to cut incentives and implement charges on EVs is so short sighted and detrimental to NZ as a whole. All of our Petrol is imported and it's expensive. Whereas our electricity is predominantly renewable. We should be doing our part in addressing climate change which is having significant effects on us, but also it'd be great to be more self sufficient.

What great insights from these two. The lack of range anxiety for real world owners is always incredible to me. It seems like once you’re above that 300km mark you’re pretty happy. Yet this is what’s still holding so many back!

This is such an interesting series. So many interesting comments from this couple. MG4 is one of the few really good value electric vehicles. It would be good for everyone if there were more competition. We charge ours with a home charging unit which we decided was worth getting at the same time as the car. I have come to like the regenerative braking on the MG. The driving experience on electric vehicles with instant torque and acceleration is not well understood by people who haven’t realised how much more enjoyable it makes driving.

Just purchased a demo MG4 77 here in Brisbane July 2023 built 7 year warranty 1700 kms on the clock $38,888 driveaway.

The MG4 is surprisingly spacious in the back seat. I'm quite tall (190 cm, 6'3") so I made a point of checking out the back seat, and I fitted quite comfortably. Other similar-sized cars the back seat is a torture chamber for me.

Good to know, thanks. I'm the same height, and legroom is a big consideration.

@tfdruid agreed! One of our boys is ~6'2" and he fell asleep in the back when we were test driving it in the hills! 😁

Great content! I am just wondering if there are any ways that we as consumers can ensure that our battery components were mined in such a way that aren't hugely unethical and didn't caus too much destruction of the local environment in which they were mined? 😊

Hey good on these guys for going electric but bloke needs to hit the road and give it a go. The charging infrastructure is just fine!

Great video once again. Are you able to ask Kathryn and John if have they noticed any battery degradation because they keep the car at 100% for long periods (from what I understood). I have seen from Out of Spec Reviews that even though the LFP batteries can take being charged to 100% just like NMC batteries you shouldn't keep them there for long. (how long? the presenter didn't specify). So you could assume maybe 15-30minutes.

No matter what you do, the battery has an 8 year warranty. The batteries in the first Nissan Leafs are being repurposed into homes in England, I read recently. They no longer have the power to run a car, but can run a house for some days.

@@peterwundersitz3715 is it only 8 years in NZ?

It's also 8 years (or 160,000km) here in Oz but the 12V battery is only 1 year!

If NZ given huge subsidies on evs & solar, and made the grid ev enabled, we can stop buying petrol from outside world in 15 years. Now we are looking at 50 years or more. Most evs in 2025 will have V2X. Our energy economics is very very weak. This idea is not rocket science.
@alanung5 күн бұрын
Almost similar situation here in Oz, the opposition political party wants to wind back climate change initiatives and install nuclear power and have us believe that it's cheaper than renewables! Here in Sydney, rooftop solar is overwhelming the electricity grid during summer middays that we will soon be charged for exporting solar power to the grid during those hours. Community batteries, I hear some of you say!

EV's will succeed without subsidies. The Govt. should not be subsidizing most things (like EV's or minjng investment etc...) Let products compete freely. EV and solar power subsidies are middle class welfare. If you live in an apartment you get nothing and house owners get money galore. Crazy

So we should stop subsidising the fossil fuel industry then?

The most damage is done to an LFP battery by constantly cycling it between 75% and 100%, according to testing by a company that does work on behalf of Tesla. Take a look at kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWLdfJl_hrqEY9Usi=aY4OoFLJIRJP1C3u. 100% charge only once a month to reset the BMS accuracy but use it like a fuel car, once full run it down to a low state of charge for the small trips but fill it up for the big trips. The video I mention explains all. Love your videos and its nice to see the couple like the MG4 as much as i like mine. Its a great small car.
