Watching the brain scoop inspired me to turn this past summer into my Dangles' Great Big Summer Museum Adventure. I went to a natural science museum, a general science museum, a space museum, a history museum, a zoo, and an aquarium that were all pretty close to my home town, and were all ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Other than the zoo and aquarium I had never been to them before. It can seem a bit expensive at first, but we were there until closing time in most of them, so you get your money's worth.

It's what makes this entire series entertaining. I am a firm believer that if you want to "sell" science to anyone you need a salesperson with two qualities: knowledge, if you're going to talk about science you need to know about science like any other kind of teacher; second, Enthusiasm, AKA passion. You need to be someone so obviously and hopelessly in love with whatever you're talking about that your audience empathises with that passion and wants to listen to you.

When I was in elementary school we took bi-monthly trips to the public library and had to do a mini book report on one book that interested us. Somewhat different from now, being in university, while during full time semesters I literally spend upwards of twenty hours a week in the library in between classes and doing research.

My Uncle works in the Laboratories behind the scenes in the Natural History Museum (London) and when i went and looked around it was amazing the amount of things on not on display either because of lack of space or just it being too fragile. I saw almost every specimen collected by Charles Darwin on his Beagle voyage as well as huge amounts of Taxidermy that mostly is over 300 years old. Sometimes people just underestimate Museums and take them for granted here in the UK as they are free.
