@@mariocisneros911 for real back in the year 2000 John Hancock was the 2nd tallest in chicago now it's the 5th the AON center the same people who designed the twin towers designed the 4th tallest building in chicago which is why everyone always says the AON center looks like the twin towers lol and ofc 3rd tallest is Vista tower 2nd Trump international hotel and 1st Sears tower
@luissantiago84463 жыл бұрын
@@Steve-zc9ht This is incorrect. The former Standard Oil Building was the second tallest behind the Sears Tower. The structure is actually taller then it appears because pedestrians who view the building up close do not see the actual base of the structure which is below the raised platforms where the building meets the street. The building, now known as AON, was not designed by the architect who designed the WTC in lower Manhattan, which was Minoru Yamasaki. It was a different design team. The AON building, along with the Sears Tower, were buildings that were handled better in their design and execution then the Twin Towers. I looked at the Twin Towers as overblown, banal and dry. The detailing indoors and out, appeared cheap and tinsily. Like it could be scrapped off without much effort. Not surprised they collapsed the way they did. The Sears Tower was and is a superior structure.

@@luissantiago8446 I thought AON also purchased the Willis Tower.

You need to build a skyscraper taller than the sears. Common it’s like half a century 😂

Thank you for the show the new buildings downtown. It is always nice to see what corners of land are always being constructed on to give a beautiful building design. Yes, I to still continue to say the Sear Tower Place when I come downtown or see a photo of our city. Speaking about structures in the city, I also miss the old CTA Randolph Loop Station stop as well. Many many years ago the station there had a walk way connection to the Marshall Fields Store at the corner there at Wabash & Randolph. Yes, again I still say Marshall Fields Store and i remember my mother would always come to Marshall Fields that pay on her charge card account. She kept here old blue and green charge card even though the Fields Family sold the store chain to Macy's.

With all this residential building in downtown Chicago, why doesn't Chicago feature more in articles of places you can live without a car? Maybe I'm just reading the wrong articles? Or, are there still crucial elements missing for non-car living (close grocery stores, primary care providers, schools)? The older I get, still in my early 40's, the more I get tired of sitting in traffic and paying for 2-cars just to live.

Post pandemic much has changed in terms of major cities struggling to handle crime and people are questioning whether the traditional downtown commute is compatible with family life. Commuting to the center city is very expensive for the employee and employer. I predict we will see a 25% reduction in the need fro center city office space in the future. Residential living could make up for the reduction IF the city is still seen as a safe place to live.

It's disappointing that the blow-through floor on The St. Regis lacks a more cohesive design element to complement the rest of this stunning tower. Sadly, it looks unfinished 😝

@patrickvillers64543 жыл бұрын
The new architecture looks like it was designed by a kindergartener they don't have clean lines asymmetrical some of these buildings they even design to look like it was damaged or pixelated those are the ugliest and imagine a multi story building.

It's a huge city Kuul, gun violence is not spread out evenly across all districts. Is Gramercy Park in NYC dangerous because of violence in parts of the Bronx? Nope.
