Yeah, the horse can use “his tongue to keep the pressure off” - but, once you put a “signal” on your reins, ANY AMOUNT, the spade will dig into the roof of the mouth. Ever stood next to a vet when they examine the injuries that can result from that? Invisible, unless YOU LOOK AT THE ROOF of the mouth. HAS TO STOP.

No bits of any kind. Instead of going from 2+ years of incremental training with a traditional hackamore, then to a spade bit, forget tradition and get more fine tuned by going from the traditional hackamore to rope halter to neck rope, to no head or neck gear.
