QUESTIONS: - Why are the outputs on the left? - Do the pots that have CV control become offsets or attenuators for the CV? Or neither? - Why is there no CV control over the timbre and tone knobs?
@strymon
@strymon 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Dysonant! Thanks for checking out our video for Magneto! Here are responses to your questions: - Noise performance was our primary focus when designing the input and output audio circuitry of the Magneto. To achieve pristine noise performance, we decided to group the ins and outs next to each other optimize the circuit layout and grounding. - The pots that have CV control become offsets. We have noted this in the manual for Magneto available in the support section of our website. - Given the size of the module, the knobs, switches, buttons, and CV control that we landed with was a design decision for the user experience we wanted to provide with Magneto.

Hi @strymon thanks for the responses. I'm excited to get my hands on one to test it out. I will read the manual, as you suggest.

Hi. Its a nice module. I'm really hoping you'll decide to make a Big Sky in eurorack----will you? I admit that someone called Million Machine March has re-built a Big Sky into a module, though I'm not sure if that's a reliable source as it may depend on the whim / time availability of the builder. I've a hunch that a lot of people would be interested, especially if you could V C morph between its modes or something. And it would be official. Thanks.

Pre-order means what; as in how long till you can receive one. Does anyone have any idea when this fabulous module will actually be shipping? Within a month, 1 month, 2 months, or much longer. Please someone answer if any one including Strymon knows.....

At 3m22s you can see some kind of Strymon prototype module in his rack. External line level I/O?
@strymon
@strymon 6 жыл бұрын
That is a prototype amplifier/attenuator module we put together for incorporating guitar level signals with our eurorack test setups. We have a newer version of that we showed in our NAMM skiffs and we plan to have these available sometime in March.

Can this be used with a Moog Grandmother? It's a semi-modular. I would imagine I could do the same using what's available on the Grandmother? Right?
@strymon
@strymon 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can feed the signal from the Grandmother into Magneto as the synth level signal should be adequate. You will still need a Eurorack case and power supply for the Magneto in order to house and power it up.

In their whole ad campaign they really seem to want to avoid mentioning that there's no tape in this unit and it's all DSP.
@blerkh
@blerkh 6 жыл бұрын
hevquip Perhaps you're right, but it still seems to me like this campaign is trying to obscure that fact. As if calling a digital device a "Four Head Tape Echo" and avoiding the terms "emulation" or "modelling", etc. is gonna magically convince their customers that perhaps they ARE playing with a real tape echo machine. Near the top of the web page it just says “Magneto is a stereo multi-head tape delay…”, no qualifiers. And just in case anyone doesn't already know, there is a real, albeit severely overpriced, eurorack tape echo: T-Rex Engineering's Replicator module.

can I connect a mono source to Magneto like mic or guitar and jam on the fly or loop it and play on midi keyboard?
@strymon
@strymon 5 жыл бұрын
You can connect a synth level signal into Magneto's inputs to use its effects. Guitars or microphones have a very low signal level compared to synth level, so you will need something like our AA.1 to amplify your signal to feed into Magneto. There is no way to use MIDI directly with Magneto, but you can record a sample and trigger its playback with the RESTART transport CV. The SPEED knob/CV can be used to change the pitch of the sample playback.

We used these skiffs at NAMM as our demo setups. Along with the Magneto and Mother-32, there is a 4ms Quad Clock Distributor, an Intelligel Mult, and a prototype of our own upcoming AA.1 Amplifier/Attenuator for integrating guitar/instrument level signals and connections with your eurorack devices.
