I have a question. There are so many dentists running scams nowadays. There are some that do half assed jobs then charges the insurance extra and some that deliberately damages your teeth so they can charge more or you so that you keep coming back to them to have it fixed. How do we avoid that? We're so cautious now cause everyone we know has experienced more problems and tooth problems after going to these newer dentists. All the dentists we used to go to are either retired or moved abroad. My mom's insurance got overcharged cause of this and her tooth fillings were so badly done, luckily the insurance company informed us so we never go there again.

Since you haven't received a reply, I'll try to shed a bit of light on what you said. It's not an easy question to answer, but I will try. You mentioned "newer" dentists....sometimes it's not a matter of running a scam, but a newer dentist will never be as good as one who's had years of practice. It's takes as least 3-5 years from graduation to get comfortable as a dentist, and sometimes even older dentists will still make mistakes. Personally, I wouldn't go and see a "newer" dentist that hasn't practised for at least 5 years or so, just to be on the safe side. The best way to find out if a dentist is good or not, is to have another dentist, or dental professional, look at their work and tell you if it's done correctly. Unless the dental work is done really bad, you cannot tell otherwise. But most people don't have that option, as they don't have family members or relatives in the dental field. You can also read reviews, and ask people you know to give you their opinion on a good dentist. This isn't foolproof, as sometimes they can still recommend a dentist that's bad, but it will help. Lastly, pray. If you're a christian and pray, God can lead you to the right dentist for you. I hope you found some value in what I've said. May you be blessed!

@@alinrusu678 I might've misspoke. By newer I meant dentist's these days compared to the 90s. They've had 10+ experience. And it's not an issue of competence. They know what they're doing. They charged extra to insurance companies when they clearly stated how many procedures they were doing. And another dentist confirmed there was no need for some of it.

Sana magkaroon din kau doc ng clinic dto sa Baguio… natrauma po ako sa dentist na gumawa ng root canal sa molar ko which in turned to extraction and now masakit pa rin. Ung problema ko nung una nanganak ng mas madaming problema huhu.. 😔

Doc pag ba sumasakit na ang ngipin wala na po other way to save it than root canal po? Sumasakit po kase ngipin ko doc simula nun nagpa cleaning po ako. My pasta po kase ako natanggal dati po, isang maliit na butas po sa pre-molar ko tas napabayaan ko po nasira un ilalim. Never po sumakit un ngipin ko doc simula nun. Tas ngaun pina ayos ko po saka po sumakit. Sabi nun dentist kelangan daw po ipa root canal kase sasakit lang daw po pag pasta lang. any advice po doc?
