From what I’ve been told by current members is that nowadays they’re way cooler than they sound, they just guard boats at night while they’re in port while everyone else goes off and parties, they have cool gear though

So where does the line cross in our military for ntog vs navy seal. I bet a video with a 3x Venn diagram showing the overlap of jtf2 would be cool

Completely different, NTOG will never function as an offensive capability or have the same amount of tools in the toolbox that conventional SEAL teams do. Their role is strictly to function as boarding parties when conventional ships team boarding is insufficient, and maritime security. You'd be in for a bad day if you were on an enemy boat and NTOG was coming on board, they have some motivated dudes and solid shooters (their original Commander was an Assaulter), but they'll never be doing the types of operation SEAL's do. They only cover the SE (Sea) part of SEAL (Sea, Air, Land) and a fraction at that.

So is the NTOG basically Canada's "Marine" unit. If so, there is a lot of potential for future growth and development.

Not exactly. NTOG is not trained for conventional ground warfare like the Marines. The CAF doesn't have an equivalent to the USMC.

Marines are actually meant to invade countries from water to land. That was their primary purpose. That's why their program is the gooniest and the toughest. You don't want people oussyfooting on the beach

NTOG acts much more like MSRT and MSST of the US Coast Guard, but with limited capabilities.
