I feed beet pulp on cold days soaked for 2 hours in warm water. I feed it in a soupy consistency to give my horse extra water, and mix in a bit of grain and salt. I was surprised at the consistency of the video's "wet" version as it seems so dry still.

If you are feeding beet pulp for an insulin resistant horse, then make SURE that you have NO molasses added version!! I also find that many of the beet pulp brands have a dark tannin, which I soak and rinse (repeat) till water runs clear. -- I recommend Speedibeet product as guaranteed for low sugar and very clean (no need to soak / rinse), plus absorbs water much faster. My feedstore has to special order. -- As for choke, just soak it and add water. Keep adding water till stop absorbing and drain off any excess if you want. When she said that smelled good, then betting that is molasses added. Not good for laminitic horses!

I have a 550 lbs rescue pony with a lot of gut problems (almost always diarrhea) he has very bad teeth and can not eat hay. We are in Turkey and have no access to the horse feeds that are sold in the US or europe. He is very underweight because of his diarrhea and not being able to eat hay. We bought shredded beet pulp but just don't know what and how. 1. how much for him the start gaining weight? 2. what should be added that is available here (grains, bran) so it is all balanced? I must add we also do not have hay cubes etc. here

If you’ve ever had your horse choke from eating dry beet pulp or any powdered or drying feed, you will NEVER feed it dry again. It is expensive and very hard to watch your horse struggle from that. It should never be fed dry. Be aware and go for the safest bet and spend the extra moments to add water

I agree 100%. Soak beet pulp pellets once and see the amount of water it takes to break it up and hydrate will make one a believer. Never, ever, feed it dry. Even teff and alfalfa pellets I use for a vitamin/supplement mush are soaked. Never made sense to me to put such dense and dry food into their gut. You are right...it is awful to go through a choke incident.

You should never really use beet pulp for feed, they can choke. I would mostly feed them oats or supplements. And no it's not an old wives tale that they can choke, even when the beet pulp is wet and can still expand and choke them.
