How to Choose the Right Water Filter
All the filters Richard demonstrated, including the granular-activated carbon filters, sink-mounted filters, sediment filters, and water softeners can be purchased at a home center or plumbing supply store.
Expert assistance for this segment was provided by Morris Merchants.
How to Cut Down a Dangerous Tree
For a tree this large that's leaning, hiring a certified arborist to remove it is recommended.
Expert assistance for this segment was provided by Peter F. McBride Tree Service.
How to Choose a Stud Finder
The magnetic stud finder Tom used is the StudBuddy.
The electronic stud finder that can show the width of a stud is the ProFinder 5000+, manufactured by Franklin Sensors.
The electronic stud finder that can show pipes and wires hidden in a wall is manufactured by Zircon.
How to Replace a Garage Door Opener
Scott installed the Ryobi Ultra-Quiet Garage Door Opener. In the workshop, he showed some optional accessories including a fan, speaker, and extension cord that can all dock into the opener. Both the motor and accessories can be found at home centers.
Everything else Scott used to install the garage door opener, including the pliers and the drill, are available at home centers.

I like the garage door and how it has a battery back up plus the fact that it has WiFi that is a good feature. It would be cool if there was a camera system so you can monitor what the door is doing in real-time and you can see if it is open or if someone is in the way. With that Bluetooth speaker, you could tell someone to get out of the way even if you are not home.

There is also a 'lever/ cord' of some type that can be pulled in case the electricity is out. Must be a way to circumnavigate the electric system to be available/ up to code in the USA. Must be a manual way to physically open the door. Thanks for the zillions of terrific vlogs!!

Filtration of water of course is based on PPM (parts per million) of what a filter can take out so its safe to drink. The "carbon grind" that they're talking about (in the filter picture on the counter and the one mounted to the faucet) is usually made from burned bamboo husks. Does it work? Yes, but its the most costly way to filter water. That's why you have to go and buy more filters about every 300 gallons (depending on how nasty you local water is).Where the parts per million comes in is pretty simple: The better the filter (filtration system) the more "garbage" is filtered out. Some of the smallest particles are from pesticides. Most common filters only grab some of the particulates but not all. Particulates (natural and otherwise) can get into the ground water and end up in our water supply. A high PPM filter for your house is the best way to combat any nasty stuff in your local water and for the investment it's worth it for you and your family's health.

We have a tree that leans more than that and is rotten on the base of it. Problem is-if it falls it is above all the neighbors light wires, our wires, cable wires, and city electrical wires on the telephone poles. There was a tree cutting service come out and quoted $1200, but my hubby wouldn't pay it. So--we will end up paying a lot more when it ever does fall.

You were worried about the 1/3HP door was going to injure your kids. So we installed a 2HP monster that relies on electronics to not smash your child. How much redundancy for failure does that sensor have?
@jeffh4505
@jeffh4505 3 жыл бұрын
The sensor has to have line of site to the receiver in order to work. If there's no line of site (either blocked, or failed), the door won't go down.

Old comment, but if you're still curious, the safety measure for a failure state is that it no longer works. Failure of the light, the photosensor, or the connection is seen by the system exactly the same as it'd see an obstruction and so it will not close. You'd either have to replace the sensor or remove it entirely to get it working again, either way you'll be in the know and can act accordingly

3:20 umm, no that's not how that works. Activated carbon has tiny pores of differing sizes (bit within a certain size range) that fill up with the contaminants trying to be filtered out. Fun fact: you can actually "regenerate" the AC by just running DI water through it and letting ion exchange "clean" out the pores but it just doesn't make cost sense.

An arborist to take down a tree is unnecessary. Just tie the tree to hold it from falling to the house and cut it down just as you would have a regular tree.
@Muddymarry

I have thought the same. There is enough space in the wood. All they had to do is to pull the tree with a long cable pull in wood direction. Much easier, less dangerous and cheaper.

They have plenty of content but not everything can be released on KZbin. You have to keep in mind they're still doing new shows on PBS, have their subscription streaming service AND have some content they release for their TOH Channel on Pluto TV that is also now shared with Peacock Streaming service which is an NBC service. While it would be nice to have everything on here, they just can't or they wouldn't have any content for their subscription service which isn't exactly cheap.

america has the most shitty water on earth , i have never heard of an anode rod in hot water cylinders ever till this show a year or two ago, we in NZ do not have anode rods in hot water cylinders, our hot water cylinders last 40+ years, every now and then we replace a element(every 10 to 20 years or so people MIGHT replace 1 heating element) our water is soo good we don't need filters, it is hardly filtered at all, every now and then councils flush the pipes by opening up the fire in ground fire hydrants to get massive water flow to flush out any sediment and to keep the fire hydrants working
@mj8495
@mj8495 3 жыл бұрын
We have a stainless steel tank for our hot water and it has a lifetime warranty. There is zero corrosion because there is no element - the water is heated by our main boiler that also heats the house. Also, North America is a pretty big place, so to generalize about water quality is bound to be inaccurate. It depends on where you live. Now If you want to brag about the quality of NZ politicians, Ill agree with you on that 😄
