Wonderful session Mr Iyer, Correction to what AIM said, USSR declared war on Japan on 9th August post the Hiroshima Bomb drop on 6th August and not before as said by Mr Mitra, Japan declared surrender almost a month later on September 2nd(the bomb didn't lead to an instant surrender as it is popularly believed)one has to understand that mostJapanese military were quite ready to die and hence conventional war wouldn't had given the desired results (one has to see before the atomic bombs ,conventional bombs were also used in bombing main Japanese cities, there are many theories as to why Japan surrendered to USA and not to USSR,prime among them is that Japanese authority feared USSR (mainly stalin)more as they had wiped out their own monarchy and stalin would have done the same to their emperor, add to this that the official state of war ended between Ussr and Japan in 1952. Pguruji, we need to have a balanced discussion. By this i mean why aren’t we not talking about the abuse muslims are receiving in places like Gurgaon. The Haryana government has refused to allow construction of nee mosques yet has allowed many temples to be built. This shortage of indoor space is forcing muslims to pray outside. When this happens on Friday worships Hindu organizations heckle them saying they are creating a traffic problem. They are also saying if they convert to Hinduism there will be no space problems. Is this a sign if a pluralistic democracy ? Please have Abhijit or someone investigate/ discuss this issue. I can tell you this if this path continues Indias downfall will, come swiftly not from outside but from inside, like a dead tree that rots inside out.

Mr. Iyer & Mr. Mitra - Your opinion of Obamacare needs to be more nuanced. The problem is that if you source healthcare insurance to employers, that places employers in a wrong position. As an employer, you would want to simply pay your employees their wages for their work. Not consider their healthcare or retirement, not to speak of all the other benefits. In an ideal system, you would simply have to run a separate market based system that runs healthcare as an insurance as also all the other benefits. Obamacare is a very good approximation to that. The load of providing health insurance to employees has been lifted off small companies now and they need not worry because their employees can very well buy their own Obamacare plans. Their productivity in the marketplace buys their wages solely and that is optimal. President Obama's policies had negative impacts elsewhere, but his healthcare was a good policy in the US. This is a key reason he won re-election, and also one reason he continues to be relatively popular.

it would have been even better, if there were healthcare policies which were tailored to individuals rather than companies providing it, insurance companies are the biggest problems in US healthcare, infact it's seen as if the doctors are employed by these insurance companies. Benefits from insurance companies should be made as plans with more choice, shifting it from companies to government is like shifting it from income cut to taxes.

Looks like Abhijit has no clue about Tamil History.. The Pallava ruling dynasty had always mentioned themselves as from Bharadwaja gothra . The Bharadwaja gothra as every one knows is a Brahmin gothra found among Iyers... Also gothra is one thing which cannot be changed easily in traditional Indian society.. Now just because Pallava and Pehlavi sounds close they may be iranians means that Tamils are from England because Mangai in tamil and Mango in english sound familiar... there are lot of traditional words in tamil which are same in english as well....Abhijit read some tamil history , there is lot of fascinating stuff , if you go deep enough you may find some interesting stuff which you never would have though of.....
