I dont think it’ll happen either way. Neera is too loyal for a relationship and unless Askal does the same, maybe. I doubt it’ll happen in this game, but it would have developed better. But because he betrayed the Magister, makes it harder for her to feel that way. So now they still talk, but it’ll probably take alot more time if he ever wanna win her over.

There's more - The Bakunawa is a Sea Serpent or Dragon in Philippine Mythology that eats the moon (hence the phases), Parusa (the island) means "punishment" in Filipino, and the inhabitants greet the player by saying "Kumusta!" which is also Filipino for "Hello!", and Cory's ship the Sigwada is Filipino for "Storm". There are also other smaller details like the bartender in Parusa offering "Weng Weng", which is an alcoholic drink named after a Filipino Actor.

It could've turned out a bit better had Askal never betrayed the heroes and sided with Askal in the first place. Plus, he was solely buying time for Merga to install the remaining beacons to launch Bakunawa, so she clearly couldn't trust him by that point. But gosh, was that one of Neera's most scary moments!

Askal is a great example of the dark side of masculinity, he might have a will to fight and great strength, but he hides his feelings till they get the better of him, he is arrogant, cold, distant, ignorant and prideful. These traits combined are the reason why he confesses his feelings for Neera (I see it as him crushing on her and saying “I like you” than proposing to her), and he had the audacity to think that the betrayal of the magister will not let to his inevitable rejection because he arrogantly assumed that she will fall over, just like how he assumed the magister was crazy for asking a bunch of kids to help, mocking them whenever he met up with them. The part that got to me about him the most was the fact that he was laughing as if she will come back to him eventually after Neera remembered at the last second that she’s human and letting her anger turn into a reason for murder was not a good idea. Good thing she shut his tramp real quick, those ice spikes poking his inner mouth walls must sting a lot. EDIT: Grammar

He did it because he wanted to help an extinct species/race and to expose a well hidden dark side of Shang Tu’s history. He has a lot of faults but one good thing about him is that at the end of the day, he means well and tries his best.

I think the moment he was in it he realised that it will be used to destroy the moon. Because of that, he fought out heroes in desperation of making some sense of it all (or to distract himself from the cruel realisation) and once defeated he just couldn’t take the fact that Merga fooled him till the bitter end and he gives up. By far one of the most awful scenes of the game, Neera admits to be a raging nationalitst, and a victim of racism gets treated like a fool for the 4rd time among 4 different playthroughs.

Whilst I get the raging nationalist part, aren't earth dragons beneficiaries of racism? They show up, colonise the planet and enslave some of the local races, genocide half their own species, then paint themselves as noble protectors and forebears. They do so by painting the enormous power source they made to hold Merga in place as a sacred artefact that supposedly enriches the planet so nobody will touch it and let Merga out. Meanwhile, they were busy installing themselves as rulers. Hell, Askal himself starts the game in a position of authority in the military. Correct me if I am wrong, please, but Askal doesn't particularly seem like he's the victim in his own society. If anything he's rebelling against the very corrupt system that gives him privilege - albeit doing so by naively believing what is essentially a mad cult leader.

You're not entirely right. It should be remembered that Merga (with the assistance of Askal) forcefully invaded and ransacked the city Neera lived in. That's what she's pissed about, not simply the truth of what the earth dragons did. Nationalism is "My country and culture is superior to all others," but that's not implied in anything Neera says. What _is_ pretty strongly implied is "I don't want my city attacked," which isn't nationalist at all on the face of it. I do think it's a little underdeveloped, though, which is more relevant than you'd expect. Neera's thing is that her trust in her friends is being challenged; Askal by contrast doesn't trust his friends at all, or else he wouldn't have gone behind their back. However, Askal's distrust is immediately understandable since he's clearly had to deal with other's distrusting him due to racism. In this scene, Neera is _much_ more angry at Askal than the others, since she clearly felt the most betrayed _and_ his proposal just makes that seem more insulting. Then, closer to the end, it's implied she at least understands why he did what he did, which further implies that she was completely out of line when she nearly killed him. But that's about as thin as implication gets; those two dots are never connected in the narrative, so the scene accidentally gives the impression that Neera's anger isn't just personal, but also assumes that it's shared by the player (which it really isn't). Plus, I don't mind Askal getting "treated like a fool" since I think that's just to soften his tough guy attitude a bit, which gives him a little more depth. But I'll put my hands in the air and admit that I'm very defensive of this game, so you can think what you will.
