PRIEST AL GHAZALI
Is the greatest Sufi, theologian, and philosopher in Islam.
His full name is Abu Hamid Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Ghazali with the title Hujjatul Islam Zainud Din at Tusi as Syafi'iy, briefly called al-Ghazali because he was born in Ghazlah, a city in the Khurasan region of Iran in the year 450 AH / 1058 AD three years after the Seljuqs took power in Baghdad.
Imam Ghazali's journey in starting education in his birthplace. From his father he learned Al-quran and the basics of religious knowledge. Around the year 465-470 AH, Imam Al-Ghazali studied fiqh and other basic sciences from Ahmad Al-Radzaski in Thus, and from Abu Nasral Ismailli in Jurjan. After that Imam Al-Ghazali returned to Thus, and stayed 3 years in his birthplace. He recited lessons in Jurjan while studying Sufism from Yusuf Al Nassaj. In that year Imam Al-Ghazali also studied at Al-Juwaini who was the Imam Haramain at that time and obtained the knowledge of kalam and mantiq.
Imam Al-Ghazali is an incomparable writer. Imam Al-Ghazali's work is estimated to have reached 300 books, some of the books by Imam Al Ghazali, including:
1. Maqhasid Al Falasifah (the goal of the philosopher), as the first essay and contains philosophical problems.
2. Tahaful Al Falasifah (confusion of minds of philosophers), this book was written while in Baghdad when his soul was in doubt. In this book Al Ghazali strongly threatens philosophy and philosopher.
3. Mi'yar al-'ilmi / miyar almi (criterion of sciences).
4. Ihya'ulumuddin (revive the religious sciences). This book is his greatest work for several years. In a state of shifting between Damacus, Jerusalem, Hijaz, and Thus which contains guidance on fiqh, Sufism and philosophy.
5. Al Munqiz Min Al Dhalal (savior from heresy). This book is a history of the development of Al Ghazali's own mind and reflects his attitude towards various kinds of knowledge and the path to God.

Imam Al Ghazali, who had the title of hujjatul Islam, died before sunrise in his hometown (Thus), on Monday 14 Jumadil Akir 505 H (1111 AD). Imam al Ghazali is buried in Zhahir al Tabiran, the capital of Thus.
