It's funny, as a Brit I've seen the old ice storage buildings at fine houses all over the UK. Often going deep into the ground and layered with straw to stop the ice from melting. Now I live in Asker and have seen exactly where and how the ice was cut to send to England back in the day :-)

Yes, that's interesting. On Facebook group a lady wrote that her mother's uncle actually used to harvest ice in Asker.
