The freedom in the US was brought up several times as a main reason for preferring the US. Out of the 93 free democratic countries in the world, the US has the least number of free citizens pro rata. One percent of their population are in prison which is double the number of imprisoned citizens in the next ranked country. Sweden is not the only country that has free health care for its citizens & residents. The UK, most European countries plus Australia & New Zealand have free health care.

What rankings are you looking at? I’ve seen the US around 15th or 17th in freedom globally, not last among 93 countries? And the differences in the top 15 were down to marginal differences in rankings. E.g a score of 8.7 compared to 8.46. The US enjoys freedoms, quality of life, and standard of living that is overall very similiar to the average in Europe. Also, moving away from objective data, freedom is subjective. Some americans like our version of freedom more than the that of other countries. E.g a less restrictive federal government, high individualism, less beauracracy, and lower tax burdens. And those might not be things Europeans value. That’s fine. People are allowed to like different things without either being superior or inferior. While the US may not be the absolute freest in the world, making it sound like it ranks low is asinine, it is still very much among the top in the world. And there are things unique in the way we practice our own freedoms that we’re proud of. And things that we’re not so proud of. I personally find it useless to go too far in either direction. IMO, and it’s obvious from the overall comment section, Europeans have a bigger arrogance about their supposed superiority over Americans than Americans do towards Europeans.

Other countries have lots of freedom and opportunities as well. My daughter was able to go to law school tuition free in Sweden. Imagine not being tens of thousands of dollars in debt after college. Or not being ruined financially by steep medical bills. A lot of people in the US don't have the opportunity to become anything they want to, despite what the owner of this channel claims.

Imagine being a young woman and going partying all night alone and going back to your home at 3am through badly lit streets and nothing happens to you. Imagine not having to salute and pledge allegiance to friggin flag as a schoolchild. All those things are unimaginable for US americans.

Why should my coworker pay higher taxes to send my child to college? Nope, we just don't like that system. I'll pay my child's tuition directly without the government getting involved. I have two that finished their degrees with no debt. I was able to pay because the government does not take half my paycheck, and my childless coworker gets to buy his boat since he doesn't have his paycheck confiscated to pay my child's tuition. That's freedom and we like it just the way it is.

And a great government. When the last global financial crisis hit the world, caused by banks and the wallstreet, all the governments started pumping ridiculous amounts of cash into banks, to safe them from the consequences of their own actions. Spain and Greece were totally f*ed, the US started its downwards spiral for real and even here in Germany we had some consequences. But not Iceland. When icelandic banks applied for financial aid from the government, they received an ice cold 'deal with the shite you created yourself' and let them all go bankrupt. And then Iceland took back its application to become a member of the European Union.

@edwinholcombe Not even like going to another continent. Considering Europe’s proximity to huge swaths of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. They have several continents and regions right next door compared to the US with very large oceans on both sides and is geographically far from most countries. Comparatively, most tourists to Mexico are from the US. Also having something like the EU and the common euro that essentially erases national boundaries for travel and work also helps.

I have seen with my own eyes the skid rows of LA and San Fran and junkies off their heads most of the time. I believe the situation is getting worse. Secondly, the use of firearms worries me. The number of MASS shootings is high, 624 in 2023 up to 4th December. After every one, the Government says they´ll do something about it, but they never do. Thirdly, How can a guy like Trump, despite all his misdemeanors, including his passive participation in the Capitol attacks on 6th Jan 2023, still have so much support??? If Americans can´t learn from the past and they vote him into the White House again, then I have to say that half the Nation needs mental support.

I find it strange how often "freedom" is mentioned here, yet looking at US society, you seem to be some of the least free people in the developed world. No healthcare, less (or no!) paid vacation, unsafe food practices that have much of US food banned in much of the world, dodgy politics, insane cost of living, rigid society, enormous military and the associated cost of maintaining it - its a LONG list, really. All of the benefits mentioned are to be found in places like Europe too, but without most of the drawbacks peculiar to the USA.

Free health care and education for all, minimum of 28 days fully paid vacation per year. Better standard of living and longer life expectancy. Also the top 10 cities with the best quality of life are also in Europe. (Vienna is no.1 on the world) We also have better democracy, with the opportunity to vote for many different political parties. I say this because when a person gets older, work opportunities are NOT as important as health opportunities. In the US, there are NO retirement communities for non citizens. Apart from Canadians. Canadians actually go to the US, Mexico and other Central American countries. So the US isn't unique in that regards. On the other hand, there are plenty of countries that US Americans go to for retirement. So hearing from mature US Americans would've been better too.

Every state is like a mini country with a different vibe and flair. Plus, you can pick a state that better aligns with your political views. America is unique as it comes. A truly free and wonderful nation. It really makes North America and Europe look shitty in comparison. Coming back to the USA from Japan the 2nd time living there as a teen was endlessly depressing at how inferior everything in the US is. Fun fact I saw 1 fat person the entire time in Japan who wasn't a tourist. Was a cashier at 7-11. Not bad. Then the first person I see in the USA at the airport was an obese lady so fat she had trouble standing, looked like the chick from the Madea movies but like 300kg 2nd fun fact one of my only bad experiences was being on the bus at 3am, dead silent, then 3 US Navy guys get on drunk and start rap battling about the bitches they harassed or some shit. On the other hand, if you are incarcerating criminals, then you are taking law breakers off the street so that they cannot deprive others of their freedoms. Many of the freedoms and protections written into the American constitution were already in English common law, which the US continued to adopt. HOWEVER, making it constitutional law had dire consequences. It moved the law into the hands of a few Supreme Court justices who could decide that, for instance, that distributing pornography could be classified as Free Speech, and that elected legislators could not regulate who can and who cannot keep a loaded gun in the home. MOST other countries have not made the same mistakes.

You don’t have to get it. That’s just how it works here. Several generations or not, our country is very new and is a nation of immigrants. Aside from the native Americans, there are NO Americans native to this land literally everyone else came from somewhere else. Hence why people will choose to identify with both sometimes. I think it’s a really beautiful aspect of the country actually. So you’re going to hear a lot of Italian-American, african-American, Mexican-American etc. if America itself is just a mixture of other cultures that is itself mixed with things uniquely related to American history/geography/ culture etc, people just find different ways of talking about where they came from. you don’t have to understand or like it. You also don’t have to disrespect it either. There a lot of things that aren’t for me or that I wouldn’t personally do or don’t understand that but I also don’t feel the need to bash and hate it simply coz I wouldn’t do it. A lot of the comments are kinda just - I don’t understand or like this part of American culture = America bad or America weird or they’ll call it “wild”. The actual brainwashing is the media campaign lately that there’s nothing positive or free about America because we’re just the gun-toting, ignorant, backwards, inferior caricatures Europeans think we are. Such stereotyping is so strong that CLEARLY America is just masquerading as a free country but is actually a third world country where everybody dies at 30 years old, nobody gets healthcare, and we say hello by shooting each other in the face 🤪 In all seriousness, the propaganda is strong in both directions. BOTH American exceptionalism and the knee-jerk stereotyping / caricaturing of America are both idiotic imo. America is the best at A LOT of things. America sucks at A LOT of things. We’re allowed to remain prideful of the MANY good things about our country (like our individual freedoms, our diversity, our individualism, our relentless positivity, our ambition, our economical / military / and technological dominance, our cultural exports, etc) while still acknowledging the many things bad about our country (healthcare, inequality, gun violence). So yes, America is very free 😊 in some ways that Europe isn’t and many Americans like that exactly the way it is. Doesn’t mean you have to like or agree with that sentiment. But you don’t have to disrespect it either. But nowadays people are on the AmEriCa BaD hate train with all stereotypes and no nunace. So much so that they’re shocked or offended Americans still like America 😐 also just broadly speaking, quality of life is relatively similar across the global west.

I’ve seen this same sentiment among Latinos that don’t like that Americans call themselves Americans. If people from Europe are called Europeans, people from Australia are called Australians, people from Africa are called Africans, and same with Asia and Asians. I don’t understand why there can’t also be North Americans (including the Canadians, Americans, and Mexicans) and South Americans/ Latin America (including the Colombians, Chileans, Argentinians etc). That’s literally just what the continents are called and have been called for many decades now. And I don’t want the cop-out that technically they are one connected landmass because so is Europe and Asia but yet they are geopolitically separated in two continents and their people are identified as such. So yes, obviously, america is a country😊. others from “The Americas” can use the name if they want to but those trying to police Americans to stop using our own country name are wasting their breath because obviously we’re going to keep identifying as Americans.

He scrolls and scrolls seeking an opening to talk about America, anything to latch on to. He's totally not obsessed with Americans. He becomes bored so he turns his TV on and opens up Netflix. He puts on his favorite marvel movie for the billionth time and he goes back to scrolling. He loves engaging in American culture as he bashes America. He's totally not obsessed. He gets hungry and reaches for his iphone to order breakfast from McDonalds using uber eats. "Stupid Americans making me eat their shitty food," he thinks to himself, "European food is so much better not even close." He has eaten KFC 3 out of the last 5 nights for dinner. He waits downstairs for his food so he decides to put on some American rap music. "Ugh stupid Americans," he says "their culture is such shit! Not like European culture, we have history! and long- standing traditions. True culture comes from the wealthy!" A Muslim family crosses his path and he pretends to not be afraid and gives them a friendly nod and a wave. "WAAA000O" he thinks as he smirks so self-satisfied "I bet if this was America they would have shot them lol." "Us Europeans are much more open- minded and civilized." He nods agreeing with himself. His food arrives and makes his way back upstairs as he slurps down the coke Americans have forced him to drink. As he sits down to enjoy his shitty American food his phone receives an alert. NEW ZEALAND NOW HAS ZERO CORONAVIRUS CASES! "Oh my fucking god!" He yells! "I am so gonna rub this in their stupid American faces!" He tweets, he posts on Instagram. He jumps on Reddit and comments with furor and xenophobia. HeY, never reallv congratulates New Zealand or their success but instead talks about how Americans will all die from COVID and how they are all so stupid. The European posts charts and graphs he has archived to link when he is questioned. Hes totally not obsessed with America. Dont even joke around like that. Hes coming with joy. "I really showed those stupid Americans today" he says to himself "they fucking deserve it, god damn imperialists," he says without a shred of irony. Felling extra good about his exploits he decides to go out and enjoy his blessed, virtuous, pretentious Euroday. He laces up his Jordans nice and tight. He puts on his favorite Batman shirt and Nike sweater. As he walks out he grabs a piece of cardboard sitting by the door. The European is now on his way out to protest about something happening in the U.S. Standing in a bus with 300 other people in it he has a thought. I dont understand the counter-fixation on what Americans like about themselves. It’s still possible to be proud of things about America while avoiding American exceptionalism. But lately the bandwagon is that any positivity or pride America has towards itself is automatically exceptionalism and needs to be changed immediately. You literally cannot find one positive video of or about Americans FROM Americans without Europeans and their ginormous superiority complexes in the comments. It’s become the other extreme of American exceptionalist attitude imo.

@@leilanidru7506it is indeed. But, that can change the moment any of these videos actually show in what regards is the US better than the EU. The reason why Europeans do that is because their knowledge of the US tells them the EU is actually better. @@sophiastorm8616 I disagree. There’s no need to fix anything or have a solution because there was never any argument. No one said anything about America being better than Europe in the video, they simply expressed positive sentiment towards their country. And positive sentiment towards Europe for that matter. But the counter-extremism of European arrogance now means liking America at all and having ANY pride in it, is automatically the same thing as Americans saying we’re better than you apparently. And that’s stupld. Because those things aren’t related. Someone could have a bigger, better house than me AND I could still love my own home. So there’s nothing to have a solution for. I understand your point that Europeans think they’re justified in their dislike of Americans. It doesn’t matter either way because no one was expecting Europeans to like Americans in the first place. but the fact that Europeans now automatically offended and expect justification when we dare express any positivity towards OURSELVES is exactly the arrogance I’m talking about. That doesn't mean they don't like their country, it only means they just realize there's an entire world out there where there are a lot of good things. This is something Americans lack. Not only knowledge about the rest of the world but the realization that, somewhere in the world at large, there are a lot of good things. Just the idea that you think we find weird almost everyone answering with their country it's because we're talking about US, says a lot about it. @leilanidru7506 9 ай бұрын
@@sophiastorm8616 well it was certainly my original point. The American fixation on freedom and the European counter fixation on what and why America likes about itself is equally dumb in my opinion. And I’m talking exclusively about the video and the commenters reaction to the video. Not only about your point. My original comment was itself a response to someone else’s point, not to you. So I just repeated my point to you. And however justified the arrogance and superiority complex, it’s still arrogance. Not everything America likes or does or say is to be in automatic comparison to Europe. If Europeans did this video, they would say other countries. If America does this video, a higher proportion of Americans will say their own country. That is something that can simply be a difference. Without obsessing over why its bad and wrong or why its inferior or superior. For a variety of reasons, we like what we like and you like what you like. So, any time I see positivity from Americans about their country (whether that positivity based on low information about other countries or not is irrelevant) there are always Europeans ready to demean and mock the sentiment and its weird.

Define Freedom. Freedom to express who you are then yeah asolutely yes, so many wonderful things have blossomed culturally through music, food, language. However ,Freedom from economic inequality, health disparities, violence, student debt i.e, toxic work & hustle mindset, nope. But at least there's the belief that it can be better.

The European wakes up eager to start his virtuous European day and immediately a thought pops into his head. AMERICANS. This of course is a daily occurrence without fail. "I wonder what those stupid Americans are up to," he thinks as he instinctively opens up his favorite American website Reddit from his iPhone. Knowing only one country how can you have other favorites? Most European countries surpass the US in so many things. Freedom, life-work balance, corruption, education and much, much more. But when you're brought up only to get to know how supreme the US is, it's hard to see others having much better conditions. Believe me, US ain't that great as you are told. I am Danish and live in Denmark, with free healthcare, free education - free in so many ways!

That’s great! We still like America. liking America is not an automatic challenge to Europe. Also several Americans in the video named European countries and literally no one in the video said America was supreme. Before, Europeans criticized American exceptionalism. Now they just criticize any positive sentiment by Americans…towards their own country. Any positivity about America is now inherently bad or an opportunity to demonstrate our inferiority. There are many things great about Europe….the generous social safety nets as well as the architecture, landscape, and history ….We still love America for what she is.

Also, The U.S. surpasses Europe in many other areas as well like technological innovation and we also subsidize your defense and safety via NATO and direct aid (US is the biggest sender of aid to military Ukraine for example). I love America for being one of, if not the most, multicultural yet successful democracy and melting pots in the world. While many countries in Europe (including Denmark) struggle heavily to integrate minorities and immigrants, if they integrate them at all. The immigration backlash currently sweeping Europe is worse there than it is here imo. Our individualistic and innovative spirit is also something we *generally have more of than Europe. I have family in Switzerland and France and they tell me Americans are generally more friendly and positive while *in general Europeans are more to themselves, reserved, cold, or blunt. You might disagree with what I like about America, but the fact remains - America is not some irredeemable country with no strengths or positives. Liking America isn’t inherently saying we’re better or worse than you. We literally just like our country😐😐😐 You’re constantly accusing Americans of thinking they’re supreme…even when no one said that or they said the most benign or mildly positive comments. in actuality, Europeans have a far bigger superiority complex than Americans do and will take every opportunity to be arrogant about it.

@@leilanidru7506 I have not said a single word that people in the USA are not friendly and helpful, because I know you are. And I haven't said a word about whether we in Europe are flawless. Why i.a. military, nato and integration came into the picture, I don't understand. What does that have to do with ignorance. But your view of yourselves is not to be mistaken. Great ignorance about the rest of the world, even in your own country it is difficult to know about yourselves. That alone tells me that you think you are better than others. But it's not your fault. It is the fault of your authorities. That's how I see the USA. That you disagree is only understandable. I can respect that.

All African Americans should qualify for a free round-trip ticket to their homeland to see their heritage. Regardless of whatever has happened and all the bs, I feel this would be a great contribution to their heritage. So many people have only had the American experience which can only be appreciated if one is able to compare/contrast it with something else. Just my opinion and I feel anyone here who has never visited their origin homeland, would benefit from this.

Their homeland is the USA. That‘s what the „Americans“ stands for. Should everybody open their eyes to abroad? Live there for a while? Yes! You would not only appreciate your home country but also learn how other countries have solved the problems you still have. And that the USA is only one of many countries that have freedom or a constitution. You would also appreciate those countries.

Asking US citizens what their favorite country is, is like asking a blind man what his favorite color is. Most of you have no idea about the world around you and you’ve only been in very few countries. In pretty much every western country you find the same freedom, opportunity and quality of life. In many countries there is less crime and people feel safer in general. Every western country has a better healthcare system than the US. The only difference is that you’ve been told over and over again that the US is the best country and that other countries are not on the same level, that you actually believe this brainwashed nonsense. In all other western countries we find out alone if our country is good enough or not. The more I learn about the US the more I feel sorry for the people living there because they have been lied to in so many ways and they would always fight for the lie because they don’t know better.
