This is obviously a genuine growl that dog needs to be put in the pound and taken in by a proper training program to be rehabilitated. Play growls are when a dog that is a couple of months to 2 or 3 years(puppy mentality ig I'm not a professional but my pitt did this and my current shepherd does this. She's 15 months)when you're playing keep away and chasing your dog for a stick or tug of war. It's clear that this dog has possession issues 🏃💨 yikes

Oh lord... He started growling before you ever asked him that, which tells me he likely does that outside of being asked. I have a 4 month old Pitbull/Rottweiler training to be a service animal and she tried that when she saw 2 large cattle dog/husky mixes at a restaurant today. She got an immediate bap to the nose to get her attention before I physically grabbed her muzzle and shut her mouth myself. It wasn't hard, but she got the message. Then she had to lay down 10ft from them and work on being both quiet and relaxed for almost 20 minutes before I would let her move... I would bet if you tried that, he'd bite, because she's reinforcing that behavior by petting him while he's growling.

The dog was anticipating the routine. Dogs sometimes skip ahead to the fun bit of the game with the rewards. The camera is out, the voice has a tone and the script has begun. The hand is snaking over... the dog has been through this before. Scritches are incoming after growling... so she growls before the perceived command. I seriously doubt this dog, laying in a relaxed and vulnerable position, would be ready to bite their human. They are just doing g a bit.

I am genuinely curious because I have owned 2. I have owned a German Shepherd Malinois cross that I rescued from an abuse situation at 6 months old from a guy who tried to drown her in a bathtub at 8wks old. I currently own a Rottweiler Pitbull cross who was rescued from a neglect situation. My rottweiler pitbull was easier to retrain because she was only 3-4 months old, but she'll be in a completely relaxed position while growling her warning. The relaxed position is not simply a sign of their comfortability in a situation. It can mean that they are completely relaxed, and they could be doing a skit, but that growling is still not a good habit to reinforce with pets because their relaxed position is also a sign of their confidence. People often mistake that relaxed position to mean that they can push it because the dog doesn't really mean it when they growl... My shepherd malinois was great with women and kids, but really disliked men. I had a neighbor high on weed who came over to ask for a cup of sugar. He commented on how cute my dog was at only 50 lbs, and when I went to the kitchen, I told him not to unlock the kennel. She was in a completely relaxed, almost sleeping position, and she never barked or growled at him... He said it was okay because he had 2 fully grown pitbulls at home. He opened that kennel, and she went from almost asleep on her side to drawing blood from hand after she broke his thumb. Possessive aggression from previously abused or insecure dogs is a real thing to worry about in dogs who are 100% confident in their size. So I still maintain that pets while growling isn't as cute or innocent as people make it out to be just because the camera is out.

I find it hard to believe he"s not "trained" as the owner literally tells one of his Rottie, Bear, to "smile" on command, and stop as soon the word "alright" is spoken in another video where his hand remains under the dog's chin the entire time and there is no "pulling away." Nevermind the hundreds of other videos showing the exact same thing time and time again. This is also excluding the fact any time he gives the dog a command, he obeys immediately and without hesitation. *edit:* And when a man who has *25 years of experience in dog training sees no problem with this dog's behavior* after watching a similar video of this exact same dog, I'm much more inclined to believe him than the lot of random armchair animal experts on the internet, especially when they base their criticism off one 38 second clip of footage. As if that could provide enough information for a valid assessment. Also, Rottweiler's do this all the time. Just because you see growling doesn't make it aggression. There is never a point where this dog shows any aggressive or uncomfortable body language, but the majority of you will likely never know this because you will refuse to admit you might have misinterpreted the situation, again, becausw you've based your judgment on one hilariously short scrap of footage.

Honestly it's one of the reasons that we love our Rottweilers so much. It's something that goes with this specific breed and we like it because it scares people away that we want scared away. My Rottweiler was about 12 years old and sound asleep on the floor when my friend's baby who was I live over a year old was titling around and fell on my Rottweilers hips. The downside of a rottweiler is their hips often cause them pain as they get older. My Rottweiler woke up out of a dead sleep growling because it hurt when the baby fell on her hips. She whipped her head around mouth wide open and saw there was a baby on her hips. This was the point where she turned her head around and laid it back down on the floor. This is classic Rottweiler. They look and sound very scary but my Rottweiler never had to bite anybody because she looked and sounded very scary

It had helped my family many times in scaring intruders that were going to rob our house at night. The thing is, just how do you get yours to listen to you? From my experience so far, and from facebook groups, all said the same, they often ignored us unless we have treats or anything they want, but mine is just worse, once he gets angry he can bite me and his face is very demonic for real, baring all fangs.

I had a dog that would growl and act that way towards me if I said certain things or she wanted to play.Never would have dreamed of biting me but to a stranger they’d have no idea.Dogs can also flex and back down,knowing it’s just an attempt with no follow through.My dog died last summer,I miss that old girl.
