@@Brandon-tz5pn rents are often more than 2500 a person, especially in the city areas where offices are most likely located. I worked for a FAANG company and I saved a bunch, but I did have to live with roommates and in overpriced old housing. If you get a single apartment you'd see your rent raise during your yearly renewals that way outpaced any yearly raise you got. I left because I never felt I would be able to own a home despite making a good 6 figure salary to most people outside of the area.

This is shocking. All those tech salaries are grossly underpaid for the Bay Area, except for the software engineer making 230k. Unless they have only had 1-2 years of experience, they should be making ~75% more than their current salaries. yikes.

Six figures is nothing anymore in Bay Area. It’s mainly the TECH (not biotech) that really had overly paid salaries, which affected the cost of living for everyone else.

Tech industry is misleading. one can make lots of money in the private tech industry but things can change overnight because it's constantly evolving into the next big thing. You can be making 270k one year and laid off the next. Companies are in a foot race to corner the next big thing in technology. not to mention a lot of jobs are being outsourced. Always some new idea on the horizon. AI is a perfect example. how it looks today will be nothing like how it will look 5 years from now.

I work in the city and very few people make over 100k. The city is expensive and its one reason why people want full remote. No hybrid 100% remote. By being remote we can move to a lower cost area while keeping your 50k income.
@amesasw2 жыл бұрын
It's not uncommon to make over $100k. It's just the majority don't. But for most cities, $100k income is only tip 20% of earners. So 1/5 make over. That's is a lot of people. I probably wouldn't use few or very few until we started talking about 1% salaries.
