Labour can do this. Keirs idea starting a renewable energy company is exactly the kind of thinking we need. We need to just vote out the conservatives. Things take time but we have to start one thing at a time and continuously maintain the momentum. The conservatives are not as smart as us, and we need to focus on a continuity strategy that ensures the momentum of a labour government continues. That’s how you achieve long term goals and better policies. People will come around in time, but unfortunately we don’t know how to maintain the momentum long term. Very interesting video. Keep up the great work with the channel. I've really found myself becoming less apathetic towards politics in the UK recently. I am starting to feel more hopeful about the potential for change and I'm sure these kind of videos are a decent part of it. Sharing these kind of interviews really helps to showcase how many people are passionate about reforms that would help ordinary people. Your content certainly feels like it helps me to my head above water after 12 years of tories anyway. I'm sure plenty of other people feel that way too. If I had one small criticism though, maybe you might want to consider providing some kind of wind-shielded mics for your roving reporters instead of iPhones. There were a few comments from those interviewed that I couldn't really make out very well. Thanks for taking the time to read this feedback too, presuming anyone ever does.

@DoubtingThomas After years of Tory mismanagement, under stressful times, it's not surprising! But I suppose it took a) Rishi Sunak no longer subsidising middle class people and some workers to stay at home b) Home energy prices doubling, and threatening to triple and c) NOW there's a significant interest rate rise, and already the spectre of repossessions. THAT'S what got the Tories out in the 1990s, and they stayed out for years. I'd be RUBBING MY HANDS 🙌, if Corbyn or someone as good as Corbyn, were still in the Labour leadership.mm 🙂

The only reason why Labour Mayor's Tracy Brabin (West Yorkshire), Andy Burnham (Greater Manchester), and Steve Rotherham (Liverpool) are moving to the left is as it is always: political opportunism and the ability to appear different to both the current leadership and the Tories. The Labour mayors can't lose; because if Starmer "leads the Labour Party to victory" (as the often used phrase goes, ditto Conservatives) then they're in key positions already and if Starmer loses then they're in key positions to take over the Labour Party...but the problem is that there is a left-wing and a right-wing side to the Labour Party in the first place. The gentleman who thinks the left is as strong as ever has got his blinkers on. A great many Labour members have quit and either went independent or joined my lot: the Green Party. Additionally, this is at the ordinary membership level and at the elected official level and this should be a worry to Labour. However, Labour sees the Greens as being "mad left-wing vegan hippy extremist environmentalists" that "steal our [Labour's] votes" and I heard this for myself from Labour at the election count when I stood as a Green candidate back in 2021. Suffice it to say, Labour are entitled little so-and-so's that need to make a decision: are they indeed left of centre as advertised *or* is it the usual Labour tactic of just having a veneer to mug the lefties into thinking that Labour is their only choice (which it isn't). In closing, those that are truly on the left of the political spectrum that are remaining in the Labour Party are nothing but useful idiots that will be cast aside as soon they're of no more use.

Those socialist policies caused a growth in Labour membership, helping it become the largest political party in Europe. The mobilisation of these new members enabled Corbyn’s message to cut through to the public despite the onslaught from all angles of the main stream media. Go back and look at the polling, these policies had gained mainstream support. It was only because of the mainstream medias attacks and the undermining of Corbyn by Labour’s right that the 2017 election was lost. Can you imagine if the PLP had gathered around their (twice) democratically elected leader rather than trying to oust him in favour of Owen Whatshisface. We could be four years into a socialist government right now. But instead we find ourselves trying to satiate the British media and red wall voters by draping ourselves in union jacks, singing the national anthem and promising not to rock the boat. The question is Tom, are you happy to live in a world where the only way to get the Tories out of office, is to promise to maintain the status quo and not do anything to radical. I for one am sick of seeing establishment apologists such as yourself making the case that getting into power on a watered down platform is preferable to fighting for real change and winning the argument once and for all. It is nothin more than short sighted cowardice.

@@Hindsighht Well considering you know nothing about me you've certainly produced quite a lot of conclusions based on a few questions I posed. I'm a coward and establishment apologist. I will not engage in such name calling with you as I simply don't know you and it's not very pleasant. Let's face it Corbyn isn't a politician he's a activist. That's lovely, until you have to make decisions. Truth be told, Corbyn's incompetence in holding a corrupt and nasty Conservative government to account through political policies that could win power is directly related to Kwarteng and his suicidal economics. If Jeremy was a bit more savvy maybe we wouldn't be in this mess. This isn't the only reason, but a factor. Change is incremental not radical and as unpalatable as it is to you, to do anything you need to hold power. I'm amazed by the number of people who've never experienced a revolution call for one. I'm a humanitarian aid worker with 15 years experience in war zones. I know what I'm talking about You talk about 2017 and mainstream acceptance of left wing policies. Wonderful. Can you talk about 2019, when Labour had the worst electoral performance since the 1930s? Tell me how many votes did Labour lost between 2017 and 2019? PS - you didn't answer my question. How many socialist polices were enacted?

Aren’t people bored with conversations about whether the leader is left enough? When it comes to the big picture and it’s still a country that tends to choose blue or red you need a leader who will appeal to the middle class english voters who base so much of their few seconds in a voting booth based on their perception of the leader and the mainstream medias portrayal of him or her. The passionate socialist discussions can occur once the party is in power and the legislation is being worded. As much as we hate it there’s a huge element of salesmanship in the election process. So you’ve got to appeal to a broad audience, especially financially comfortable floating voters who aren’t members of any party and go simply with a perception based on few sources of news. Once power is achieved then Kier will be in a position to listen to internal conversation a hell of a lot better. Especially if the kind of majority achieved in 1997 was repeated. Except, rather than leave the conversation after a labour victory assuming everything will magically work out people need to stay on board which thanks to the internet now being the norm is an obvious possibility.

I sympathise with the corbyn supporters and understand the frustration of the party taking a more center position by contrast, but we have to read the room here. We need to de-polarise, and we need swing and right wing voters to come with us to start healing that divide if we really want to move forward. Getting the tories out is the current priority. Starting to move further left can come after that

Starmer with his Tory-lite approach falls well short of representing the working class, when you have a Labour party that refuses to stand with the Unions something is very wrong!
