Everything that they're saying of Weymouth, a town I've visited and enjoyed many times, is true of many(most) coastal towns. My home town of Scarborough is almost identical. Lots of people retire here from the northern cities but they don't spend anything or really contribute much other than stressing the underfunded hospital. I'm the only person of my cohort of friends from school who still lives in the town. It's sad and the decline is becoming irreversible. Excellent not to have a London-centric views and opinions.

I love Scarborough. When my kids were younger we would have a mini-break there every year! A pity more people dont do likewise to bring some money into the town! Inflation, sever drought in the farm belt, the pandemic, food shortages, diesel fuel and heating fuel shortages, baby formula shortage, shortage of and price of available cars, the price of housing. The biggest issue in Dorset is the council, everyone knows it. Weymouth just won the bid for £20 million in 'levelling up'. Nobody is under any illusion that this money will be spent well and actually improve the economic prospects of the town.

As someone who lives there it has always been a great place to retire or bring up kids but not for any great career. Along with Portland next door it is a second home territory and beautiful in the summer so that props it up. It's council tax banding is one of the highest in the country aswell and the house prices have massively jumped up over the last 8years. Just needs fresh ideas and incentives from the council for businesses to start.

I can talk to people as and when I want to and I can concentrate better as and when I need to. I can pause work for a an hour or so if I need to sort a personal errand and make it up whenever I want which means I don't need to waste leave where I would have had to in the past. There are many many benefits to working from home and not many downsides at all.

The UK has a crisis of not enough housing, ultimately that is the reason why things are so bad in terms of cost of living, there are also problems with transport. Faster rail links in and out of London and construction of massive swaths of housing around London (expanding London itself as controversial as it may be) and expanding the commuter towns in Kent, Surrey etc this has to be done if things are to get better.

I grew up in weymouth. I was there for 30 years. I dont live there anymore because i couldn't afford to live there. The town is taking a huge nose dive. Good to see businesses opening around the area our of town.

When i bought my first property 30 years ago it was more or less 2 times my annual salary , now that has risen certainly in my part of the country to 4 times , thats for a basic starter house, in London and the south in general I suspect that figure is 10 times, what chance do the younger people of this country have of making a decent life for themselves? I know the London figure is factual as I have compared my professional role in both London and Lancashire, guess what, they both pay the same yet housing is at an totally unaffordable price in the south, especially London. Firstly I would say anyone struggling in the London area should consider selling up and moving north, younger people with good qualifications should consider getting out of the country altogether , this country is a prime example of wealth not being distributed equally, its a damning indictment of previous governments especially the Tory party , we have become a poor nation with little prospect for change, totally mis managed at the highest level. In twenty years time we are heading for a pension timebomb, because everyday items are so expensive a smaller percentage are putting money away for pensions, it is impossible for many people to save money which just isnt there, wages have stagnated while raw essentials have rocketed, the number of people relying on state benefits will be overwhelming, a bleak picture, certainly we are heading back to Victorian times.

There is remote working but many organisations will insist that you spend 50% of your working hours physically in an office. Inflation is from one place and one place only, it has its source & origin in Government printing Cash and distributing this through so-called quantitative easing. Governments have only one option to stop inflation they must "bring in the Cavalry" the cavalry is INTEREST RATES ! ! This is to bring in & harness the money supply, but Governments must also reduce spending. If Inflation is measured at 10% then Interest rates must be raised to above this, say 12% or perhaps 14% for a short time. After some years once Inflation has been controlled and brought down, interest rates can be normalised to something like 7% 8% or 9% this is normal, what we have right now is still an abnormal interest rate, 4% base rate is an abnormal and it is an emergency rate. Once any Government begins this policy (and the USA have not yet begun) it will soon "expose" their statistics as true or not, that is if Governments say Inflation is 10% but actually it is 15% then an interest rate up to 12% will not deal with inflation . . . Governments get exposed

Unfortunately, a shortsighted government that has no awareness of its idiotic ideas and consequences is offering no solutions. On top of this, the local governments have little creativity to kick start these areas. The solutions that are offered are often old ideas that failed before and will fail again. Shops close due to changes in culture around shopping, so creativity is needed to reestablish new demand; paving high streets to encourage shoppers hasn't worked. Entertainment is still based on outdated ideas that fail to attract users and new custom. Towns like this all over the country need to work towards being centres of life and not satellites of those larger towns that attract all the investment.

Older generations voted Brexit because of a feeling of the good old days. Remember the 70s and 80s. People went to Germany to work or end up on the dole., Britain has voted for sanctions on themselves. These people are right, older people retiring to seaside towns driving young people away.

Really easy to fix most of our problems. Re-join the single market to fix the economy. Invest in infrastructure and our services to fix the needs of people. Tax fairly and close the loopholes for of shoring money, made here by big firms and highest earners. Invest in young peoples education and provide options for them to do a trade via apprenticeships. Stop blaming our problems on others, the EU of people in dingys.... Its our systems and bronken tax regulation that needs fixing.
