Being half-Japanese in Japan is not all fun. Japanese boys and girl are telling us if they envy Half-Japanese people, often called "Hafu" or if they think they have problems in their life in Japan.

her style of english is evident of the upper class english spoken in the philippines and indonesia. she probably learned it from schools there. some of my classmates in university sound just like her here in the philippines. formal english education focuses a lot on proper articulation here and we adopt a lot of our english from american english when talking of philippine history. some of her pronunciation though i must say is the kind of english that people in the area around malaysia, indonesia, singapore speak like.

Carol ine my life . Im half japanese quarter korean and a quarter black and i know i should be grateful for being the races i am (yes im grateful for the races i am )but sometimes i do feel like being mixed is kinda hard because you might not be accepted by your race since your multiple races. I don’t really have a whole lot of japanese or even korean features (well my eyes kinda resemble japanese/korean features) but besides that i don’t really have the same features. (I get mistaken as hispanic sometimes)

They’re talking about the bridge of the nose. Most Asians have flat or low nose bridge and caucasians have a nose bridge that is slopes down not inward but very straight and goes from the middle of their eyes to the end of the nose. It’s seen as very pretty and sharp over there.

It really depends on what nationality or race your other half is. If your mother or father are of asian roots, there's a chance that nobody would notice you're a half. There's also a chance that one of your parent's genes happened to be stronger than the other so his/her racial features are more apparent.

Being half Japanese is great if you enjoy constant attention especially from the opposite sex but personally it gets tiring listening to people tell me how they love my pale complexion, my eye/hair colour, height of my nose, how I can speak both Japanese and English etc etc. I feel like its harder to make meaningful relationships (romantic/friends) because you attract so much superficial people who just want to be around you for your exterior quality rather than the internal. I guess if you're super outgoing extrovert being half-Japanese in Japan is amazing, introverts like me who spent most of my life in Europe where I was regarded as Asian and received very little attention for my looks to suddenly get shit ton of attention is very jarring and uncomfortable. Its not all bad of course, I've met some very interesting people along the way, some who are now my closest friends and I wouldn't have it any other way but too many people think (mostly young Japanese people) that being half-Japanese automatically puts you in the winning team (人生勝ち組) but I honestly it really isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Me being a foreigner in Japan, I overall like to hang around half-japanese a lot more than full-blooded japanese. They tend to be a lot more open-minded and to have far less fixed ideas given by the medias on things they don't even understand themselves. I like japanese people, don't get me wrong, but being around them all the time can get pretty tiring after a while, because it's hard to get over all the superficial talk.

I think it happens more in elementary school and middle school because kids can be mean. I wasn’t bullied more than other kids for being half but my older sister was bullied a lot in 5th & 6th grade for being half and looking different with freckles and such features. It’s probably also because she wasn’t what they were used to or grew up with as she started going there in 3rd grade verses me who knew my classmates since kindergarten

MeiWebbify no it still happens in high schools. There’s a student who’s half and has lighter brown hair and eye color. He gets teased a lot especially in English class because the “joke” is that he looks like a native English speaker but isn’t so classmates make fun of him because he’s English isn’t great. But it’s so weird because the other students’ English is worse than his so idk what they get out of bullying him for no reason.

Yup, it’s kinda sad to be honest. I’m also mixed and part Japanese and went to a Japanese school since I was little and only because I was mixed the kids were so mean to me. So I always felt that is my fault because I am not 💯 % Japanese?? Now that I am an adult I feel sorry for them, they live in such a bubble that some can’t see past that and will never grow out of that and know more than just their Japanese bubble. I’m greatful to be the way I am, even if I am part Japanese it doesn’t make me less than them, I am also Spanish and honestly I don’t feel more than the other nationality, I feel like I am all that I am. I don’t choose to pick a side but just to be who I am as a whole and I am so happy and thankful to God, we are all the same at the end and just come from different cultures so we might learn from one another and so this world won’t be so boring lol 😂 imagine if we were all the same and spoke the same language?? It wouldn’t be as fun and this adds the spice to life 😄

I mean especially after all of the controversy over Naomi Osaka in the tennis and some other things recently, I think most Japanese are being quite careful about what they say about half-Japanese people and foreigners. Some Japanese people mentioned such a thing in one of Yuta's videos. Japanese in general will always prefer to be polite over expressing their true opinions too. That said, I suspect that younger people in Japan are becoming more receptive to the concept of nationality being based on more than just blood, and are becoming more receptive to other cultures in general, so I suspect at least some of these people genuinely believed what they were saying.

But where do your bullshit sensors base that speculation on? I live in Japan, and actually this video is quite accurate from my experience with a lot of Japanese people, especially these type of young people (not surprised some said Korean either with the current k-pop boom). A lot of Japanese people envy half Japanese because of cute/handsome celebrities like Becky, Rola, Yuu Shirota, and so on. For the most part they don't seem to give a thought about potential struggles like the girl who said "No". That said, as a mixed person myself, I don't have the struggle she mentioned at all. I identify with both of my cultures and support my home country (where I was born and raised) in sports events and the like.

Interesting part of the video is there’s a lot of mention of Filipinos which seems like something that wouldn’t be desirable given the history of japan and the Philippines. But I have noticed that a lot of Filipinos do have stronger features than other Asians but they can range from looking super asian to mixed to looking Hispanic. Pale skin all the way to super dark. Flat noses to long noses. Filipinos seem to have a lot of variety in how they look compared to Japanese or Chinese. They’re most likely talking about Filipinos who have the more mixed features and not the ones who are closer to the native Filipinos (dark skin, short stature, flat noses, etc)

That's because white societies shun anyone speaking a different language than English. Go to the UK, US, Australia and it's all like that. They don't put zero value in knowing more than one language and actually hate you for it. They're scared you'll be "talking behind their back." Grow up in another society and knowing multiple languages is looked upon as a favorable thing.

@Forsaken Pixel Nagisa ah...I should have been more specific. If you're a white person wanting to learn and knowing multiple languages it's a plus. If you're a PoC, it's not. There's a reason why you'll always hear people yell "SPEAK ENGLISH! This is America/Australia/etc."
@ForsakenPixel

@hey hoyo hmm.. i think it may just be individuals that aren't willing to adopt a new language. While English may not be the official language in the United States it is the most widely spoken and locals may just want to be able to communicate in common tongue. However i do agree that no one should be looked down upon for speaking a different language, we're all human and we can communicate in several different ways, we aren't limited to only one option.

All of these people are beautiful. They shouldn’t want to change themselves to look like others. Especially not to look like white people.

But most European or White don't Adore Asian people, instead they are most physically attracted to curvy bodies and tanned skin. Japanese are beautiful because they have Milky White Rosy skin, if they are dark-skinned, they are just like South-East Asians.

Elwen 1294 There is nothing wrong with south east asians. Tanned skin is beautiful. Also who cares if Europeans “adore” someone or not, that is irrelevant.

@@SaraOanimeOcookie maybe to you you are okay with SEA Asians, but in reality, SEA people are looked down, in the West, by Black People, even by East Asians, eventhough they won't say it directly to your face, cause it is associated with being poor and low-class due to history of colonization, they had to work under the sun(SEA countries located in middle of Earth so that's why it is really hot, cause skin to turn dark). You can call it blue-collar workers where they to had job that require hard-physical work. That's why in their mindset they don't like their own race, instead they even like whites, even many of them like mixed mixed race of their own with white people, because it is perceived as upgrading their status to high-class society. Like Brazil, it is obsessed with physical beauty. Even India view white-skin is désirable than dark-skinned. They have been influenced they are unwanted, undesired, because of colonization. Heck, they are even more friendly to unknown white-foreigner, including East Asians rather than random dude/girl of their own race. Sadly, this behavior cause them to be labeled as cheap, easy, eventhough some people already aware and not being too friendly of white-foreigners. Even I know some unknown East Asians get friends easily in here(in my country, one of SEA country too) and they are even famous in my country rather than some unknown their native race. They are hostile to their own race. So sad, while in East Asians, they don't even know SEA is frowned upon, even you Will know actually Japanese actually look-down on Non-Japanese and half-Japanese if you live there for long-term. You see even white-people admit East Asians are beautiful, but never say SEA Asians beaufitul. In the end, people Will say, physical beauty does not matter, but we can't help but look at physical appearance first, then personality is second. It is always like that. Beautiful people always get confidence cause people paid attention to them, envy of them cause Beautiful people has something people wanted. Beauty is associated with power, people would do anything to you. You have upper hand over people. Although many cases is common for Beautiful woman may have ugly male-partners, but Male is visual, so ugly woman won't get chances to date guy. I also see here people dislike someone of their own natives who has big, or fat-rounded facial structure, or unsymmetrical face( cause it makes them older if they have big face).
