Interesting tool.I have been using an old hand bilge pump from a boat for about 10 yrs. now. It looks almost identical. Limits the size of rocks it sucks up to >1/4". Got it at a garage sale for 2 bucks. Works great!

My homemade pump/hand dredge has a tennis ball attached to a rope to prevent the gravel sliding out. I also don't use any cross bar on the end for preventing blockages - hasn't been an issue yet. Simple but works.

Ask Jeff Williams I apreciate your response. My buddy who looks for gold in the Ca. central valley is wanting a metal detector which differentiates gold from other metals. He said you use one on your channel. Could you recommend a make and model for a quality unit. Randy is passionate about Gold in them there hills, so I told him to spend the extra $ for a proven detector. We value your expert advise. Have a terrific day, and I eagerly await your responce.

Hi Jeff awesome video. Nice Hand dredge if your having a hard time pulling it when the dredge is drawing the material in you need to drill two holes at the top that way when you pull the material in it won’t be so hard to pull I hope that helps you from getting so tired

@Askjeffwilliams8 жыл бұрын
you betcha and yes we should have mentioned that.the Flapper valve acts like a small doggy door and on the exit valve you should mark where the top of the rubber hinge is attached ( Top of the doggy door) so as to keep the top of the doggy door up and to help the flapper seal better. Thanks Bill

Jeff, When I am panning and get down to the black sand how do I know what is gold and what is not and how do I separate the gold from the black sand? I can see a lot of little sparkles in the black sand but I don't know if it is really fine gold or nothing at all. Thanks so much, enjoyed the video.
@Askjeffwilliams8 жыл бұрын
you will have to tap to top of you pan to get the Gold if any to walk and if the particles of Gold are really small then invest in a Jewelers loop. When you see Gold up Close you will know right away.....If any doubt still remains use a small magnet over anything that is questionable and after that use the metal frame of the Jewelers loop to push down on the pieces to try to smash them flat. Gold will never shatter only bend.
@Chase95488 жыл бұрын
With that blue pipe thing on the production version, wouldn't gold get stuck in the ridges of the tube?
