Nice video, Jason. Well explained! The chemical process of driving a chemical reaction to completion is literally called "using excess reagent." The limiting reagent is the sulfides in the melt, so adding iron (nails) to the melt soaks up all (almost all) of the sulfur converting it to iron Sulfide. The fact that some of the nails still exist at the end of the pour is proof you have achieved iron as "the excess reagent." Good job! Oh...and I guessed 150g. That is a really nice payday! Proof that there is still plenty of "Gold in them thar hills!" And I did the math: it looks like your high-grade is about 31.5 g/metric ton. So just a smidge under 1 troy ounce per metric ton of ore. Not bad!

Considering the amount of gold rich crystal structures in your mine you might want to experiment with baking some of your waste from number 1, 2 & 3 materials. 18-24 hours at 600-750 C should oxidize off a lot and give you some pretty good ideas of what might be chemically bound in some of those minerals.
@keebbles5 күн бұрын
My aussie friend crush to fine, then dribble the product through flame. They note colors produced at same time reducing sulfides. They bake it at 600c for days before processing. Reduces need for large amounts of Flux. Saves them money overall. Just can't do this during fire season.

The smelting videos are my favorite. And Jason explains it so us laymen can grasp it. I do wish he would show his costs. Up here in Alaska we get people coming up every summer who watch these videos and think they're going to get rich. And every single one goes home broke. I'm guessing Jason's costs are approaching $100k and he's only found about 5-6 ounces of gold. That's a big wake up call for those dreaming of hitting the motherlode.

Ya, there's a reason why it takes giant corporate entities to successfully mine mineral wealth, because sheer volume combined with economies of scale is the only way to economically succeed. It's ALSO why MBMLLC promotes the machinery they manufacture so heavily and demonstrates why it's useful for tasks other than hard rock mining, because those sales help foot the bill for the mining.

That bluish rainbow slag in the overflow is a clear sign of BISMUTH, so as your collector metal, it is carrying gold with it. Also as I mentioned in several other videos, IRON can form a HIGH TEMP alloy at certain temps (around 800c) which doesn't melt until it reaches well over 1100C. That is the gold containing crust you keep getting on your iron.

If it was pure gold at $84/gram it would be worth 12012. Minus roughly 10% for silver type content, you get around $10,000. Now, how long did it take to mine, dig, and muck that 3 tons? I am curious because I know during the California Gold Rush the only ones to really get rich were the ones selling the shovels.
@drewski57306 күн бұрын
It’s not worth the effort, you’d want to be making about $1000 a day, so this should be ten days work. It was more than ten days work. If you don’t value your time though it’s a great hobby!

@@drewski5730 idk. Counting what the videos said they pulled 470ish bags or 13ish tonnes out this year with just two guys working 70ish days. Assuming one dude and a days work to process 3 tonnes call it another 3 days to process. So that's already $650/day for them this year and they failed to blow through. Next year when they blow through their travel time out reduces by 85% and they'll be able to blast and muck way more, and do less waste blasts because they only need 7.5 feet for the new carriage way they are creating. Theres nothing stopping them from getting 1200+ bags out next year with 2 guys and 80 days work. Bumping that up to 1300ish a day. That would absolutely be worth the effort for only 2 guys working 5 days a week 9-10 hours a day. Assuming 40% overhead split two ways you'd be paying yourself $45/hour. That's absolutely viable.

I love watching your videos; both fun and informative! I would love to see a 'business' video understanding the true economics of your gold mine. Obviously, the first couple of years will be capital intensive in regards to restoring the mine, re-timbering/shoring stuff up, purchasing/installing an air compressor to run the drill, having the right equipment to process ore (hammer mills/shaker table etc.). Looks like you have a good idea of yield of gold per ton for this specific mine at this point. I would like to see a video on a rough break down on when things becomes profitable and what are the fixed and variable costs per ton for ore extraction on a go forward basis. No...I am not trying to be your accountant, but I would find it interesting to learn more about the financial side of being a gold miner in the current day. I would guess each subsequent season should yield more ore for less cost per ton and some of those fixed costs become less relevant as time marches on. Just an idea. Please keep up the great work.
