Born and raised in S. Florida myself. Best gold in Florida is on Treasure Coast beaches, gold washed ashore from old Spanish ship wrecks after big storms. Up near Palm Beach, Port St. Lucie area. If your looking for places to go gold panning, Dahlonega, Georgia is a good place to visit. Other places on East Coast include Virginia, Southern D.C (along the Potomac River), and North Carolina. Never looked for gold on the west coast, but looks to me like it has better gold than out here in the east. ...just some suggestions. I'm not a pro. Just love finding gold!

Jeff, in my area (which is known to produce gold) there was an earthwork project done about 20 years ago to redirect flash flood waters around our flood prone neighborhood. Last summer, we had a hellacious downpour and the outlet of the diversion ditch cut quite deep and exposed a very hard caliche sandstone type bedrock (about 300' long) that i'm pretty sure nobody has ever seen before. It is about 25' below the surrounding ground level. I found a heavily mineralized crystal the size of my fist which was embedded in the caliche. I have a brand new Gold Kruzer and am thinking this would be a good place to start prospecting. So you know what i'm gonna say...
