As and added security measure, I like to change the name from Administrator to something else. Also, I always run under a limited account except when doing things that require admin privileges. With UAC this isn’t often necesssay.

You forgot to mention that to disable this account you need to be logged into one of the other accounts ie you can't disable this admin account if you are signed into this admin account
@randycrager40744 күн бұрын
You are referring to the Core Admin. Account and I do this as soon as I am up and running on MY Desktop PC's and Laptops. Yes you need a password because for instance I came into my office and my two year old was banging away at my keyboard and my main PC was running a Format on my C: drive. That was an unpleasant time.

Thx for good info... so if I enable the Admin Account, and it pops at login-screen, but it wants password right away, if you click it, could it be that there already is an admin password created, and whoever used real admin rights, lets say the IT company that build the machine and installed windows, have turned the admin account off again, leaving me with an administrator capable account, but no way to get "true" admin rights, and they never told me the password ???

Very possible.

I had two computers that I needed to do this with. With one of them it worked perfectly! Thank you. But with the 2nd computer, when I click on the Administrator to log in, it requires a password, which I didn't set up, and have no ideas what it is. I reset the computer and it did the same thing. Hmm?

Is this the reason/solution to the issue I have with files on an external drive where I keep some copies and backups and it responds that I don't have access? I log in to Windows with a local account and it is set to admin but this is the first time I have heard about the limited admin possibility. I didn't think I would be interested in this video. Surprise!

Can you make a video on how to disable Administrator? I've gone through dozens of videos and nothing seems to work. I just installed Windows 11 the other day, i had to access administrator mode to get by a problem i was having with the OS not seeing my ethernet. Now that im in Windows 11, im stuck in Admin mode and i can't disable it to normal settings! This is so frustrating.

If I'm correct, in order to set this up (Administrator) you must have administrative rights; you can NOT set this up while logged in as a user. Is this correct?
@askleonotenboom7 ай бұрын
Absolutely. That would be a huge security hole.

Leo, brother from another mother. Are you able to help me, I'm having issues. I don't know where to start, I'll begin with the fact that I can't find where to update my mobile number, can't see "security contact info" on my Hotmail layout. Also I've forgotten my password (even though I'm already logged in) for my main email, and having issues with my recovery email to confirm my main email. Does that make sense ? 😮

Hi there sir! I have a question here. So basically I am from the late 2024. I'm using Win 11 with administrator account at least that's what it said. But the thing is even with that account I still encounter some restrictions by administrator stuff. I know we shouldn't mess with that things but I still wanna know why it restrict me from doing admin stuff. Please help me.
@askleonotenboom2 ай бұрын
Depends ENTIRELY on what you're doing and how you're trying to do it. If you want to pursue it, head over to askleo.com/ask and give me LOTS of details. Thanks.

Either you need a super admin, or windows will not allow you to do this otherwise you will lose all your data

@UltraZelda647 ай бұрын
Doing this is actually a bad idea for the vast majority of people. People already get infected with limited user accounts, this will allow them to get a rootkit without even being asked.
@pleskbruce7 ай бұрын
Well he does say that you probably wouldn't want to leave this enabled so I think it's a fair presentation. Leo I like your videos because you speak clearly and not too fast but you are right to the point without fluff.
@timetriad61997 ай бұрын
An Admin account has to exist regardless if it’s the built-in Admin account or not. It’s more secure to use your computer with a Standard account, and have a strong password on the built-in Admin account. It can even be renamed to something like “LocalAdmin” for example ,so it’s not the default name for remote attack attempts.
@Mantikal7 ай бұрын
You know that section of the dictionary where is has the word "moron" - your picture might be found there. If you're a regular user but you feel that you should login as an admin - just because it gives you a feeling of importance and that "it's my machine and I can do what I feel like." It's a horrible idea to be surfing on the internet continuously under these two conditions 1. you're logged in as admin & 2. You have no Admin training. There are tons of controls hiding in the back ground of that Admin account that your probably don't even know exist or what they are for. You could be an average 50 year old adult that meets those two requirements I mentioned and some super geek 13 year old (who all they do is spend their time reading admin tech manuals and checking out admin tech YT videos) could wind up remotely hijacking your computer and locking you out of it. Stay off the internet if your in your admin account but don't have admin training. Only go online through your regular user account.

Hey thesage, I went to subscribe to your channel to get the highest quality knowledge from a true tech wizard like yourself, but it says you have no content! Surely, this has to be some sort of a mistake. I can't imagine that somebody so incredibly critical and talented like yourself would squander such computational mastery by not sharing it with the world. If Leo doesn't know windows compared to you, you must really be something! I look forward to your first upload. Some fully comprehensive comptia level course, no doubt.
