Before anyone asks IMO the most complicated board war game is Federation and Empire.

Rules-wise, I don’t think so, but managing the strategy is definitely high complexity.

I just finished playing this last night. Yes, that canal is more difficult to cross than it seems! This is a really fun scenario. Don't worry too much about rules mistakes, we all make tons of them.

You’ve just got to dive in and Spend time looking up rules. It’s part of it. I’ve played solo by just going through the sequence of play. We’re here to help, ask questions. Full asl has some pretty cool things. Yeah, about 100-150 ASLSK scenarios SK1 has US, Soviet, and German

Also, don’t be discouraged by rules comments. We ASLers can be a bit excited to share rules notes. Take em or leave them and have a great time.

Rules errors are inevitable. I play with people who have been playing since before ASL became Advanced. They make mistakes all the time.

@@Jezza_One F&E certainly is complicated. Recently I played again for the first time since the early 90s. We played “The Wind” with just the base rules. Fun, but I’m more of an SFB guy. I prefer tactical to strategic. And the spreadsheets! Oh, the spreadsheets! For economics and for builds. I actually think a simpler spreadsheet would be better. When I played in the 90s we used the paper Econ form.

Learning Starter Kit isn’t a waste of time because most of the rules are the same. Just don’t get into the mind set of “I must master SK before tackling ASL”. Play SK1 (infantry) and then go to full ASL.

Maybe at an unsecure stage of rules knowledge you should try some easier scenarios first. Knowing ASL fully is kind of comparable to the effort of acquiring a good scientific university grade. :D
