Ok so here's a list of words I think you should do- Superficial, song, stereotype, piano, backpack, toilet paper, forgot, lost, difficult, easy, what's up?, try Also I think that it would be cool if instead of just a million videos with only one sign, you could do one video with related words. Here's a list of group sign video ideas- Instruments, sports, rooms (like living room, bathroom, etc), theatre words, races (Polish, filipino, etc), sexualities These are all just ideas! Love your channel & anything you choose to do will be rad 👍🏻

Out of all the ASL type channels on KZbin, you are by FAR the best teacher I've watched. I started learning ASL because one of my friends at school is deaf and I wanted to better communicate with him and now I'm finally doing that. He tells me I'm really improving and we are actually starting to have conversations and understanding one another and it's amazing! Thank you so, so much!!

This is truly amazing! I had my second baby in December and we were shocked to find out that he had hearing loss in both ears. We never thought that was even someone to worry about! We embraced it wholeheartedly with no sadness, because we knew it was just another amazing trait of our beautiful little boy. BUT! Though there was no sadness, there was (and still very much is) the feeling of total inadequacy. (ie, What form of communication do I choose for him? What are my resources? How can I teach him to sign when I can't sign myself? How am I ever going to meet all of his needs? How can I possibly handle this?!) We have a deaf mentor who comes to our home every week and she is helping us learn ASL. I'm great at vocabulary, but knowing sentence structure has been extremely difficult for me! I was to the point of saying "Well, I know the vocab and that's enough." I'm so grateful for the video and the great explanation of sentence structure, but even moreso, the pep talk at the end. It is EXACTLY what I needed today. I'm so incredibly grateful for this wonderful video! Keep it up! It's already made a difference for my life and I know I'm not alone in that!

Rochelle I want to thank you so much for doing these videos! My wife of 15 years is deaf. She taught me how to sign but I have always been hung up on sentence stucture. I just found your videos today and now I am going to start going through them all. This one certainly has gotten me started to true A.S.L. signing instead of signed yuck english. Which of course drives my wife insane and causes alot of really humorus misunderstandings. So I say thank you once again time to get started. Cheers!

Hi Rochelle, I really appreciate your videos. Back in the '80's I was sent to SEE classes so I could interpret at church. I became friends with the only deaf woman who attended the church. She was so disappointed that I didn't learn ASL. So now here I am many years later and I need to practice signing so that I can be a more effective American Red Cross volunteer. You asked what kind of video we might suggest. I guess signs to conduct an interview in an emergency situation like responding to a fire or other disaster. Thanks
@PrincessNinja0077 жыл бұрын
I've heard it both ways actually, that ASL is "proper" (and it's ableist and insulting to expect native ASL speakers to read it), and that SEE is preferred because lip readers can more easily go back and forth between the speaker and interpeter

I want to learn to sign worship songs. Is it sacrilegious for me to sign the songs in English order for the sake of performance quality; especially when I am trying to teach a song to kids who are hearing? Does giving them grammar have any value if I don't teach proper ASL sentence structure. Especially considering that lyrics and poetry are fairly dependent on English sentence structure.

I have been learning PSE for about 3 months. I'm getting more comfortable with it (I obviously don't know all signs, but it's easier and I learn more quickly then when I started) so I decided to challenge myself to learn ASL. Also, could you do a video about signing to music?

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Just a little feedback. The volume when you are talking using the graphic to explain is fastly different that the volume when you are in front of the camera talking. You need a microphone or something when you are in front of the camera so the volume for both parts can be more equal. Second: It would be helpful if when you are signed the sentences you would do it at regular speed and a slower speed. Also, do it once turned sideways.

I'm completely hearing and don't know anyone deaf (my mom is deaf in her left ear but fully hearing in her right so we don't use ASL) but I still love to learn ASL to become fluent in the language and be ready if I ever meet a deaf person at work. The world should be more open to deaf people and knowing just a few words in Sign language could turn a deaf persons world upside down just knowing that a hearing person cares enough to learn their language.

Hii, Rochelle! It is so inspiring and funny to watch your videos and learn from them! I agree with you that whoever decides to study a language, should do it the proper way. But I have a question about songs. When you are signing during a song, should you strictly use the ASL structure of the sentences, or with songs it is less precise and you can do English order? And Thank you for your enthusiasm!!!

For my entire life I’ve been learning french at school and speaking in English was banned (I know, it’s a dumb rule) so I couldn’t learn English very well, except for the 2 English classes we had every week. But in those English classes, we didn’t really learn grammar and stuff like that, we mainly learnt about poems (yet half of the class didn’t know English). So I didn’t really understand like half of the stuff in this video😅😅😅 (I’m terrible at English grammar and structure)

Also, I am signing songs for church. Do I sign the songs as the words occur in the song, or do I change the sentence structure? We don't have any deaf congregants, at present. I am just signing because I want to open people up to signing and deaf community. That said, our service is televised, so there is the potential that a deaf person or persons might be watching, so I'm torn with demonstrating the vocabulary, and getting the meaning right.

Great video! But I’m a little confused. I have been doing asl for a while now, and I never used word structure. Did i learn all wrong? For example, when I sign songs or something, I sign word for word. I don’t use the structure or flip the word around like in this video. Am I wrong? Do you always have to use this structure?
@Jlna_6 жыл бұрын
Ava Spiaggia What you did, was PSE (Pidgin Signed English), in which you would use english grammar and just translate it word by word into signs. It's not all wrong, I mean there are people doing this, but PSE is not an actual language (it's just pidgin). Every language needs grammar, there's not one, where you just put some words in random order. ASL (American Sign Language) is its own language and therefore I would recommend to learn ASL rather than PSE. No worries, you'll get into it. I was doing PSE for two years and thought it was ASL, because I didn't know better. Good luck!
