WARNING I had some leakage when removing a brisket today on my AS350 and when I removed the grate and heat deflector to clean it I found that there was minimal liquid in the lower chamber. Come to find out that they forgot to seal the whole corner and vertical wall with silicone behind the heat plate for the internal temp probe! All the liquid leaked into the unit and is slowly dripping out the end by the feet. I will never be able to get this cleaned out and returning this unit. The rest of the unit is sealed around the floor perimeter, vertical walls and box area that the auger is contained in. Why they never finished sealing the one vertical wall and floor is beyond me! Promptly returning this unit for a refund. The other issue right out of the box was the unit was missing the hot box plate to use 3rd party pellets. It took 21 days and multiple calls per week to get this missing piece sent out. Still has another 5 days in transit before it is supposed to make it to me.

Hey there~ we've been shopping these guys, so we really appreciate your thorough review. If you have a minute, we'd sure be curious how the cleanup is, meaning is it average as far as what to expect, and/or any details pertaining to the cleaning/maintenance. Specifically, I'm wondering about the heat shield, if it's a pain-in-the-rear. Thanks for your time, in advance~ Sam

The cleanup of the ash and the fire box underneath is just like any other smoker but on a smaller scale. Unlike full size smokers I, and many others, put foil down on the heat shield to aid with clean up. The makers of the AS350 recommend that you don't cover the heat shield with foil so I don't do it. Depending on how drippy your food/sauced food may be there will be cleanup but nothing a scraper can't get rid of. It will never be perfectly clean as you know but well enough to cook another day. A few months ago I smoked a cherry glazed ham and I knew I would be moping on a lot of sticky drippy glaze and I didn't want it to make a huge mess on the burner plate so what I did was I made a foil boat and centered the ham on there and caught 99 percent of the glaze from dripping down plus the ham got some extra flavor on the bottom from sitting in it. It all depends on what you are going to cook. Chicken wings with no sauce or just a glaze at the end will hardly make a mess. If you want portability in a smoker then I would recommend this. There will be messes here and there just like with any smoker but for 2 people camping or on the road this is perfect and I don't regret getting it whatsoever. I've used it in the 40's during making a ham for Thanksgiving so I don't see why not. I guess if you don't open it and just set it and forget it and open when necessary it is just like any other full size smoker you would use.

You can easily fit a pork butt in there. I've cooked a ham in there on 2 separate occasions but if you want exact measurements I can certainly get that for you.
