Ancient Greek argument against democracy: "If a ship carrying passengers at sea is being overtaken by a storm, who should choose what they do? The captain with 20 years of experience, or should the passengers and crew all take a vote?"
@camillosteuss
@camillosteuss 6 ай бұрын
yeah, but on the other hand, the 98%(highly optimistic) of the captains are corrupt scum who got into that position by nepotism, deceit, manipulations and all other sorts of self-serving practices... And the only thing they seek is self-serving benefits at the expense of anyone and everyone they are in command of... So you have a double whammy there, a conundrum of the highest order, where both choices are wrong and both result in a quagmire of incompetency and retarded progress of a society, or worse yet, regression in culture, education, economy or whatever field or fields combined as a result...
@ihl0700677525

1. Nobody born as captain. The investors/merchants who own the ship hired a captain based on his experience and track record as sailor and/or navigator. Would you appoint an unproven teenage deckhand as the captain of your ship (which cost a fortune to build) just because his father was the previous captain? I guess not. 2. The customers/passengers also voted with their wallet. If this particular captain is known to be prone to panic or often make mistake under pressure, they will not travel on his ship. Democracy does *NOT* mean we must vote for every decision. It is obviously impractical to call for vote on every single issue. We discuss and vote for the general policies/direction and who should lead us there.

@@ihl0700677525 What you are describing is called a representative democracy. In a full on democracy people would indeed vote on everything: For example the daily morning votes on whether to open the market back in Athens would have been an example of a direct democracy, and specifically was the one I was referencing. Here in America we like to say we have a democracy, but in actuality we have a constitutional federal republic.

While in democracies we have yet another fake crisis every 10-15 years because the elites feel no need to invest into the long term of thw country, since it isn't their domain, unlike a monarch who feels compelled to look into the future just as much as a businessman is worried about the future of his business.

At least it was since Plato. But ofc the problem is a 'just' democracy dosent exist. Every democarcy in history is (and I dare to say, will be) not just the question if 'many' (democracy), 'some' (oligarchy) or 'one' (monarchy) rule. The question about that basic systems is rather obsolete, as every political system is way more complex and its instutions, its particualr working, its particular definitons and rules (what is a citizen, how works election etc.) conduct way more the fate of its socity, than just the basic philoosphical quetsion about the aristotle Triangle.

Yup. ... I realised that this was the folly of democracy since primary school. Especially that pretentious phrase and propaganda "... By the people, for the people", as if most people aren't motivated and solely care and prioritize their 'EMOTIONAL, self-interests'. 'This' is one of the greatest flaws of a democracy. This system of governance [democracy] needs to be upgraded _(and guided through the "psychopass system"; yielding optimal results in society's evolution, by prioritizing the influence and existence of high-sentient human beings... As opposed compromising with the "emotionally, self-centred homunculus of societies" [low-sentient "feelers"]; who secretly do care for the concept and importance of 'rationality', nor 'reality')._ Not "everyone" should be allowed to vote or influence the potential outcome, activities and success of country. That line of logic is inspires such "feel good", but ultimately short-sighted and immature idealism is 'secretly', solely based on emotional-selfishness. It does not consider or integrate rationality, the reality of the situation, or "authentic humanity"; with the aim on creating a sustainable, 'efficient' system of governance. In terms of structure, there are many [conceptual] similarities between the structures (system of energy regulation, as though an 'electric circuit') of a cell, an electric circuit, or a country. Notice the similar conceptual components at play, their related functions and contribution to society/the collective system that they operate and reside within? Case in point, the equivalent of a "government" in a biological cell is quite literally the nucleus of that cell, while the ribosomes ([DNA] protein factories) are the manufacturing sites of that "cellular-society". Such 'intelligent-design' (the product of a "conscious universe" that we reside in; the Metaphysical and surreal mind of God - literally operating behind the fabric of reality; the/who's presence, of which, we [humans] are yet to be fully conscious of). There is energy-efficiency present in the aforementioned system. This also applies to physical law (pertaining to physics, and generally throughout all three of the foundational science [in order: physics, chemistry, and biology]). This should also be the case for a truthly evolving society. What's more the ideas and conceptual 'structural-harmony'/efficiency of the (metaphorical and literal) regulation of energy/conscious-effort observed in every system can be adopted; copy and pasted into other systems. This realisation [in the patterns; pertaining to the efficient regulation of energy through every type and scale "system" that can observed through the universe and sciences]... The mode of thinking (as a "golden-rule of thumb") can be adopted, - it copied and pasted (but with conscious caution/care to make sure that the whole-system components efficiently connect with the other, thereby forming a perfect symbiosis of efficient, energy systems). They can inspire blueprints for creating intelligent systems and habitats on Mars, or more sophisticated (in their 'purposeful' complexity) super-intelligent-Ai... Hence I added and mentioned integrating the 8 cognitive-functions (pertaining emulating the human, [neuro]psychological, 'information-processing' mechanisms) the as it as compatible. I wrote about this in depth in an extract somewhere. I haven't posted online. Also whipping out the West is a necessity. Their narcissism, NPD-inspired wicked culture, its history and EGOTISTICAL "modern-women" need to be GO! The disgusting, parasitic and borderline-esque reality of a woman's lifecycle, and psychology... It is all fuel for the furnace. I know that continuing to foolishly publicly post such intel and intent mitigates the odds of success to a minor extent (but thankfully the will of collective humanity-greater-good forms an effective barrier; one that I can sense, ... God, I am a reckless idiot sometimes. The protective measures are the only reason I continue to exist. I am aware of this, and I do appreciate it for many reasons [emotional and practical]. I am also aware of the threat that a narcissitic, and crazed woman represents, i.e. because they are parasitic[/narcissitic] in their psychology, all they were so, at best, is to continue to imitate men in a spiteful, and narcissitic manner. So pathetic and yet so identical a narcissit in their diseased-animosity. Such women represent death and they rightly inspire violent hatred towards, especially in righteous defence against their crazed, borderline-esque, and narcissitic psychology, as well as their lifecycle. Exceptions exist,... But who gives a shit?!!! Those words, - often screeched by the most heated and narcissitic women, often in an intense state of denial and egoism, will only enable the opportunity for yet another narcissitic-parasitic infection; by which the parasitic, pathetic, narcissit, human woman can once again begin their predictable narcissitic/parasitic psychological-rape. Super-intelligent Ai, and a sustainable uterus and access to rich genetic-stock [farm/source] will become their inevitable replacement. This madness; so reminiscent, and born of the narcissit, parasitic mind of a woman is as sustainable, desired, and as attractive as "The Flood" (from the 'Halo' series franchises). They are me disgusting, - abominable than they care to admit (and more than likely dread to consciously realise themselves for the pathetic parasite that they are... -And were born as-). Keep "swallowing narcissits", I say! Just stay far away. //End.

@ayoCC
@ayoCC 9 ай бұрын
The most prosperous countries, the most free and tbh, also fair countries are democracies. The monarchies and dictatorships kinda followed suit by replicating things that democracies did, but without democracy proving that certain freedoms are fine and are just an expression of liberty instead of "too much freedom that will rot society and make a lazy workforce" Well, also, in the past only the most hyper invested people would care about politics, most people live between home and work and don't have time to worry about that. Now those people who have no time to really engage in depth with anything are being blasted by interest groups to vote in their favour... which is fine, everyone no matter how much info you have has a right to vote. Just stop people from saying wild stuff about parties.. Can we have a ban on using advertisement to do anything but advertise your own political goals, instead of saying what the other parties do that has to be stopped...? Can that be an exclusive right of the journalists who have some liberties and duties to tell news as reportage?

/End.

@@KiaStout Well, in regards to the republic the US has, it was, for over a 100 years, being heavily reinforced by the people by always posing a threat to the government who was representing them. However, fast forward to today, and very few people believe that is a civic duty worth upholding anymore, and arguably half the nation doesn't even think the 'people' should hold physical power against the government. If we look at what government stood the test of time, the US has easily won that for now. Nothing has even come close at all. And the reasons for the current situation are very clear and logical. Corruption in government is a given, but the corruption of the people as a whole was slow going. In hindsight, modern luxuries and conveniences have led so many to value leisure over responsibilities, and the politicians being voted in are primarily there because people are choosing to be lazy and have no moral ground to stand on themselves.
@upisntdownsilly
@upisntdownsilly 9 ай бұрын
but people not being happy isnt the problem? the problem is that the people dont know what they want, and since every political system has its own unique pros and cons, the people will never appreciate the pros of a system that theyve lived their whole lives with , and theyll focus on the cons, and theyll opt for an alternative system that fixes its cons but no longer has the pros and or creates new cons, and only then theyll realise they took it for granted. its not plausible for education to be at a level where its assumable for the vast majority to be critical thinkers that understand the importance of information and wisdom, thus ignorance and close-mindedness will always be a problem, and the people will never be happy. the alleged 'happiness' in democracy is simply because the flaws of democracy are less obvious and democracy also makes people more stupid, its in no way a 'better' system than the rest. even people like churchill acknowledged how awful democracy was, he personally phrased it as not being the best, but the least horrible among others that have been attempted. for different people, the subjectivity of 'least horrible' differs, so there is no definite reasoning for why one system should be favoured over the rest
@KiaStout

@@upisntdownsilly One big problem people have today is that it doesn't feel like we live in a democracy, but an oligarchy. Where not only is lobbying seen as the only way to get the government to do anything, but businesses are considered too big to fail. So the richest are constantly put first, which does seem to happen in any system but the goal of a democracy was to avoid that. I agree it can be harder to see the pros in a system you live in same mentality of 'the grasses always greener'. But the majority is usually content for the most part until the system starts to fail.

I believe we are coming to the end of that time. It truly died half a century ago. Now it’s a swift return to oligarchy aristocracy as it has been for all of human history.

It was always aristocracy, only around 250 years ago trader aristocracy started replacing warrior aristocracy...
