There are certain unwritten rules that can be agreed on. McConnell's use of Lay on Hands could be considered unsportsmanlike, but his use of buffs from food and potions are generally considered not allowed. They didn't on rules beforehand though so honestly it's kind of up in the air.

This. Unspoken rule of duels is you don't use consumables, only equippable items (trinkets). It's intended to be a match of skill. I think Lay on Hands is fine, though, since it's a class ability.

Reminds me of a duel I had as a balance druid vs a warrior at lvl 25 in the barrens. I rooted him and got a distance away and healed myself up. He ended up forfeiting the duel and told me I was cheating for using roots and healing.

I've always watched Asmon with a pinch of salt, I know he doesn't actually think he's vastly smarter than mcconnel, he just gets a crazy kick out of trolling him. The thing is, Asmongold makes his own rules all the time; "You used Augment Rune" "You had food buff" "I lost because of your potion," "I lost because of your spec" "Your class is broken," etc. The guy has never once taken a loss as an adult. I mean, we all know he's a manchild but I thought there was more self-awareness in him. Asmongold has a good account and has an exceptional memory, but this shows how little skill is required in wow. Realistically, he's bad. His redundancy is evidence of that. But then of course, he has to call McCuck a cheater to keep his viewerbase thinking that's he's actually good. I'll still watch Asmon, and I still respect his account a crap ton, but holy hell is he out of touch with reality.

He’s old school as fuck. I did play a lot of vanilla on lots of servers and yeah, pots were this like silent don’t use thing. Then it was people saying no pots before duels sometimes. Hell I remember a handful of servers I started to centralize on that would lose their shit for using any largish cooldowns including trinkets. Like actual salt about using big CDs for duels. Asmon is obviously a poor sport but yeah, he’s acting like this is some serious old vanilla shit. I still regret choosing to main Chromaggus when that server first came out.
